I mostly disagree with it. Here is my version of your first argument:

Vista > XP by far, the way 98 > ME by far.

That wasn't an argument, that was an opinion.

lol that old XP laptop i have should be able to run wmp9 and 10 pretty smoothly but for some reason it just doesn't. I thought it had a virus but virus scans came up empty. That's when my Windows XP experience started going downhill. I was even forced to downgrade one of my other Windows XP computers to Windows 2000. I never liked XP again since then. I finally cheered up when Windows Vista came out. And since then, I never complained about Windows again. And my thoughts about switching to the Mac disappeared.

There's a problem here. The operating system's integrity doesn't degrade, only the hardware that runs it and the brain of the user. Considering the limitations of that laptop, the more crap you put on that install of windows, the more it'll get bogged down. You started to dislike Windows XP because your computer couldn't keep up with what was being asked of it? You see, while you were having problems with XP, others were having a great time. Why? Because the hardware they had was better than yours. Usually than means the system is able to handle the operating system for longer periods of time. This may include prolonging an inevitable change to a more suitable OS.

The reason you're having such a dandy time with Vista is probably because your hardware exceeds Vista's requirements for a good amount. I bet if you dual-booted with an XP partition you'd hardly have anything to gripe about.

The way I see it: Windows 7 > Windows Vista > Windows XP, but only because of newer features that appeal specifically to me.

you know... this entire thread has really gotten off topic. It went from Halo 3 PC to Windows Vista vs. XP as well as computer specs.

Halo 3 is too good to release on PC, because maybe they'll learn their lesson.
Bungie & Microsoft. they will learn not to limit everyone's creation.

good things about Halo 3 is that it already has online co-op.
ai sync, scripts sync, cutscenes sync, better than Halo 1 PC/CE and Halo 2 Vista in many ways.
so I wouldn't see any reason to not let us use campaign content for our maps.

I'm sure Halo 1 CE and Halo 2 Vista players would buy Halo 3 PC, because of its sync'ing features it already has from Halo 3 xbox.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Yep, halo 1 had poor sync when the fps went over 30 and h2v had laggy mouse sync over 60. Hopefully, this should be better at Syncing.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

For the last time, prove it or STFU. I'm seeing silky smooth gameplay at 75hz with vsync, with absolutely no sync problems. Stop blaming the game for your shortcomings and/or stupidity.

I never actually noticed any sync problems with either halo games. I mainly play the xbox versions but I think the PC ports would usually be the exact same as the xbox versions in terms of syncing. If your mouse is going out of sync, chances are, you just need to increase the sensitivity or your hardware is slow.

I think BUNGIE should remake Halo 3 for the PC it would be so awesom of them but they would have to change so much and they are currently wrapped up with Halo ODST and Halo Reach so this wont happen soon if at all but fingers crossed

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

What kind of "sync" are you talking about? The only thing I noticed using anything besides "30 FPS" was that the character animations were a little choppy.

If that's what he's talking about, I'ma smack someone. That can't be fixed; The Xbox version of the game was locked at 30 fps and the animations were specifically designed for that framerate.

It's barely noticeable on the PC version though, and it's far from game-ruining.

The Netcoding is good :D
The fps is already good enough, it should be easier to improve on it.
Bungie/Microsoft really should allow modding communities for Halo 3 PC, and maybe put on steam.

The modding thing is possible. But putting it on steam will never happen. Why would Microsoft even do that if they already have Games For Windows Live which lets you download games already? Besides, Steam is terrible for online games. Xbox Live (Games For Windows Live) is much better.

I don't think Halo 3 would be made for download anyways. On the Xbox 360 Games On Demand, Halo 3 isn't even available for download there so it's likely it won't be available for download on the PC. But I'm fine with Halo 3 on a disc. My Halo 3 disc is slightly damaged though but I managed to install the game to my 360 hard drive so I can still play it without any problems.

Gamespy is much better than both. Because it is bug free and has PunkBuster (on most games)

That's true, but not for the reasons your thinking. Microsoft still believes it can use Halo to push new operating systems and terrible software, such as GfWL. Speaking of which...

Posted by: General Heed

Are you a Republican? Cause you're sure not doing any fact checking before you start spewing. GfWL doesn't have a single full game available for download.

Rofl statement of the day. Go back to console gaming, kid. You keep speaking, you're just gonna keep making yourself look like more of an idiot. I could address every aspect of each program and explain why Steam is infinitely better in every way, but the reasons are so innumerable that I just don't have the time right now.

But I'll leave it with a question; If GfWL is so much better than that terrible, terrible Steam for online gaming, why does Team Fortress 2 have more players online at any given time than every GfWL game COMBINED?

Halo 3 is optimized to be played from the disc, you know. Installing just makes the shipped maps load slower, and a multiplayer match can't start unless all players have loaded the map. Congratulations, you're one of the guys who decided to hold up matchmaking for the rest of us.

I don't play any games that use Gamespy. Maybe cause it's so old, dated, and featureless that modern game devs don't wanna bother with it? Or they just power their multiplayer with Gamespy's server lists, like H1PC did?

I generally consider Games For Windows Live and Xbox Live to be the same service. So whatever Xbox Live can do, Games For Windows can surely do in the future. So if Xbox Live has full games for download, then Games For Windows Live can do the same.

Halo 3 runs faster for me when it's installed to the hard drive. And if I don't install it, then some of my maps won't even load and people won't be able to play with me on those maps that won't load. But after I installed it, everything went back to normal if not better.

Then you must have one scratched up h3 disc. Or your dvd drives messed up.

And gfwl lags behind XBOX live, you cant even join parties or get a avitar like on the 360.

GFWL are lame. and don't call Xbox Live = GFWL, because they're not good enough to be called equals.
Xbox Live > GFWL.

Well, the reason for that is GFWL lags behind the 360 hevaily in features, just like original xbox live, where it lags behind the 360 live.

Though, gfwl does have new games, like Section 8 (the pc version got a 8.0 from ign, though, the graphics suck) or red faction gureilla.

I don't see why GFWL doesn't have all the features Xbox Live has. They're both the same service in many ways. Is it because GFWL is free and Microsoft wouldn't be making any money off of it? Or is it because there are compatibility and performance issues?

  • 09.09.2009 2:21 PM PDT

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it's because MS doesn't want to waste resources bringing GFWL up to par with Xbox Live. The client isn't as popular as Steam. It's not the operating system on your computer either, but the 360 essentially runs on Live. You don't need parties on GFWL because you would hardly ever talk with someone you weren't playing with. The 360 doesn't have apps like Skype (only one I could think of) that allow you to talk with multiple people at once, so it needs the party system. Even now, it's limited to, what, 8 people? For GFWL to successfully integrate all the things that Xbox Live does, it would have to be a standalone program or a part of the game explorer. It's not impossible, just unlikely.

The only compatibility issues between consoles and PCs involve coding, and that's been a problem since the first console. Performance isn't a concern either. PCs are upgradeable, consoles are not. I can't just open up my 360 and swap out the processor for a core I7. Yes, PCs cost more, but you can do more with them. I'd like to see you fire up a Wii and write your 5 page English essay using only the Wii-mote.

Everyone read over Minute's post a couple of times. Especially the console kids.

As well as the examples LonStaruner gave. Those apps not only do multi-user voice chat, but they do it -gasp- better than Xbox LIVE! Can you believe it?! There's stuff already out for the PC that's better than Xbox LIVE!!!
