However, if a next-gen console is made, that usually brings the graphics capability up to par with modern gaming pc's for a little bit. Eventually, console games will surpass Crysis in graphics. Of course I'm only talking about Crysis 1 as sequels always have better graphics.
Actually, they're downgrading the graphics and streamlining the engine for Crysis 2 to make it available for consoles. Whether or not this means that the PC and console versions will be entirely different (i.e., Far Cry PC and Far Cry Instincts) remains to be seen. The graphics for Warhead also weren't as high as the first as well. Crysis is actually the only series I've ever seen where they dropped the eye-candy for sequels, as opposed to raising it.
As Dirk said, of course we'll see consoles reach that point. But it's definitely not right around the corner. It's gonna be a while.

Since Halo: Reach is coming out around the time that Microsoft plans to release their upgraded Xbox 360, who knows what changes will be made to the graphics.
It would have to be a MASSIVE upgrade to bring it to the likes of Crysis, let alone beyond. It would have to damn near double the power of the Xbox 360. There's no reason for MS to do that.
Really? I heard from other people that Crysis 2 is supposed to be like 3 times better than the original Crysis in terms of graphics.
Here's what I think will happen with Crysis 2. They will release the higher quality PC version first. The after a few months, they will release the downgraded console version. This is kind of like Call of Duty 4 being released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 first and then a downgraded version later on the Wii.
Usually, each next-gen console is more than double the power of the previous console. When the Xbox went to the Xbox 360, it was a huge leap. Since the Xbox 360 isn't selling as hot as it used to, Microsoft might want to make something new to try and make more money again. So a new Xbox 360 with 2 times more power might be MS attempt at making more money.
But yeah, I generally believe that newer games have better graphics and the PC version of Crysis 2 probably will have better graphics than the previous version.
