guys guys! Imagine the grapich card you would need! Its a good idea but it would cost you alot of lag. Even more than halo 3 on the xbox has.

What

The 360 does not use a graphics processor from outer space. If someone spent money for a decent GPU that is from the past year or more recent, they'd be able to run it, even if Halo 3 PC had graphics customization options ala H2V.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Hahaha, oh wow. 6+ months since I was last here; 6+ months since the time before I was here. It's been a year since I have frequented this place. And hell, I am sure as -blam!- that I am glad I see a post by an old grizzly.

I second the notion for this post. I would gladly enjoy an FoV of 90 degrees for Halo 3's port. I also enjoy this thread's ideas for a possible new port. I think coming back was definately a good idea after all.

Well, even though I'm new to PC gaming, the HEK in H2V is just dumb. I thought it would be better.

Windows Seven is the next version of Windows.

H1 and Halo Custom edition name: madkiller92
xfire:madkiller92

You don't think they would make h3 PC available to only windows 7, do you?
I think it's supposed to come out anywhere from 2009-2011 (that's what wikipedia said).

I hope this is true. I just can not get into Halo 2 any more on PC. I loved the online play. Since there is not a lot of online play I just do not play it. :(

I just can not get myself to buy a 360 just because I want to play Halo 3.

  • 09.28.2008 8:17 AM PDT

Halo CE forever!

If you guys have played some of the Unreal Tournaments you would love a customizable field of view for H3PC.

I don't think any halo game has a good FoV for a PC, because they are designed purely for Xbox. The FoV for Halo 3 is at best as good as the other games, and at worst an experiment gone horribly wrong. I get why they tried to make it that way, because it seems as first glance to be more realistic for a game, but after studying it, (And I have done extensive research into video game FoV), it...just sucks. This FoV and the weapon placement creates bad results, like the Battle Rifle (which looks ridiculous), and others, like the sniper rifle, carbine, brute shot, and shotgun.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think that it is bad. It is playable, and it presents an interesting view of the game, but still...Bungie, you can do better than that.

Comparatively, however, I think that it is an improvement from Halo 2, which I thought was positioned way to forward, too close to the barrel of the gun, and inconsistent. Halo:CE had a decent FoV, not exaggerating anything, but making it seem realistic enough.

All in all, the best thing would be to have a customizable FoV, so each player could have their own preferences. It isn't my main priority to have an improved FoV for H3PC, because just having it would be good, and besides, I rarely focus on the FoV when I am playing.

At least he's learning interesting things. There is nothing wrong with that.
Also, note that alot of people can actually combine this kind of hobby stuff together with a great social life.

So yes, it could very well be fun being him.

Really? I had a hard enough time juggling my free time with video games and computers with school. Now going to college, that life is pretty much over.

I never said there was anything wrong about studying video game FOV. I just happen to think there are better things to spend your time doing, like doing wheelies for the girlies.

But hey, whatever floats his boat.

Lol, I have done extensive, rather boring research because I am designing my own video game, which is (hopefully) going to be an awesome game. FoV is one of my main worries so far, because that could change the game entirely. Oh well, that is not really about Halo 3 PC, and I did not intend to make it sound like I do that all the time. Far from it, because I only research stuff like that on the occasional Sunday. I mean, there really isn't that much to study, but I have done more research than most people, and some video game designers, have ever thought about doing.

I highly doubt you bear the title of game designer for a few different reasons...

Firstly, I know people who have been in the industry (id Software, 3D Realms, and Ion Storm before they collapsed). Typically, they hate talking about their work unless they are the PR guys like Frankie.

Secondly, you should be working your butt off to make sure your game rocks.

Thirdly, you are here posting on bungie.net as a typical member. Your English lacks the perfection that anyone with a four-year degree (as is often required with being hired as the Game Design Lead).

What I'm thinking is this: You have a big head. You might be working on a damn-good source engine mod or another game engine that has had its source code tweaked quite a bit. If that's the case, have fun with it, and remember it's just a mod for now. Not a published game that's been put on store shelves.

PWR.

As opposed to your own marginally smaller head?

I don't think he ever stated he was designing a top shelf video game dude, some people do make games as a hobby. And most people don't go to school for four years to have a hobby.

True, John Romero never had a four year degree, and he's one of the four fathers of Doom.

Ok, guys, do you realize how far off topic this is? Besides, when did I ever say I was a professional, or a four year degree student? For your info, I still have a couple months of high school left. I am just an ambitious guy that is really interested in designing a video game. My main priority for it right now is concept art and what not, so I don't have to worry about that after I do get my education for video game design complete. I am doing FoV studies because I am working on the ideas of realism, seeing what will work and what won't, like adding the peripheral vision factor, or the "seeing your own body" thing. I have just recently created a 3-D model of some weapons so that I can see how they would look on screen, and FoV is a main problem.

So, before you post your next reply, if it is about this off topic discussion, please don't post. PM me if you really find it necessary, but for now, I would greatly like to talk about Halo 3 PC.

I think that Halo 3 PC is going to be great, but I also thought that Halo 2 was good, as well, even though most people really criticize it. Graphics may be a problem, but with the new technology we didn't have even a year ago, I think that they will be able to create the game without requiring a high graphics card. Also, I think Bungie is working on this one, instead of some offshoot company from Microsoft. Although I have no proof, Bungie did say that they were working on 3 projects, one being Halo 3:Keep it Clean, whatever that is. They are also working on a game that isn't Halo related, maybe a Marathon game or something. That only leaves one project, and I don't think that even Bungie would attempt three full games at once, so quite possibly they could be working on Halo 3 PC. As for when the date will be, I think that it will be next Spring, near the time of the release of Halo Wars, although I could be wrong.

Anyway, please just talk about Halo 3 PC, and don't start fights with someone else, name calling and what not. It is just mean and you look really stupid doing it.

Godspeed.

it'll be a while before halo 3 on any platform other than xbox 360 even begins to surface. vista? halo 2 was scheduled for release on vista before the OS was even out.

now, with the reputation it's been given, microsoft needs to rework vista before they even think about where to place halo 3. i believe it was $300 billion they just spent to rework their ad campaign to change what people think about it.

who knows, it could be an entirely new operating system by the time halo 3 hits pc users. not to say that they aren't working on a plan as we speak, but we all know it'd be stupid to release halo 3 on any other platform anytime soon. oh well.

It might be on Windows 7, which is basically Vista 1.1. Last report, though unconfirmed, said that W7 would be released next summer, but an earlier confirmed source says January '10. Anyway, I wonder if that will be the case anyway, because with Bungie being an independent company now, they may not want to produce it for only W7 or even just Vista. Of course, Microsoft still holds the rights to Halo, so it might just be on W7. I wouldn't put that past them. Maybe with Bill Gates not being a full executive chairman, that might change, but unlikely. I don't see why it would be stupid to release it on another platform now, they would make more money, but I am no expert on that kind of stuff. I just would really like it on PC, can't stand controller play, and I wouldn't really use a 360 for anything else. I just hope that they develop cool stuff like a good map editor or something that PC has above 360.

R.I.P: Midship's floating Swingy Table.
You will be missed...

I heard something about a legal agreement between Bungie and Microsoft that said Halo 3 and Halo Wars stay exclusively on the Xbox 360. Now this might not stop 3rd party publishers, but that makes me kind of doubtful. I would wholeheartedly support Halo 3 for the PC, but whoever does it, they would have to do an extraordinary job of it.
I also agree about the HEK, they should make it better than Halo 1's and Halo 2's HEK. Maybe make the tools usable by EVERYONE's computer... (I have the HEK for Halo Custom Edition, but some of my tools don't seem to work because of what appears to be hardware errors...)
