I heard something about a legal agreement between Bungie and Microsoft that said Halo 3 and Halo Wars stay exclusively on the Xbox 360. Now this might not stop 3rd party publishers, but that makes me kind of doubtful.
They might port a version of Halo 3 to the PC here in China.

There are no copyright laws, everything here is fair game...

I would doubt that it would be PC exclusive to China, because an American company would make it, and they would end up selling it all around the world.

Where did you hear about that, electricSquid, because maybe that source has more info than anything else we have found so far. Honestly, I don't doubt that Microsoft would pull some cruel -blam!- like that, seeing as they don't understand that computers are not only for geeks or workaholics. Doesn't their recent ads try and portray that? Oh well, we could bad mouth Microsoft all day long, and I don't think that it would do anything. I don't even think Bungie listens to us.

I still think Bungie has something up their sleeve, because Recon is only one of three projects. They did say that not all of them were Halo related, but I think that there is still another Halo project coming. The third project, the one that is not Halo, is the one that is going to be squad related.

Now, if there is not going to be a Halo 3 PC, we should all go and sign that online petition that is set up, and maybe that will change things. Also, it might be possible to create an emulator for the game, although that would take a great deal of skill.

I still predict a possible release date for the Halo 3 PC if it is in the works to be next year sometime, with all the other stuff coming out for the 360, Microsoft is bound to do something like they did for Halo 2 Vista, and release it near the same time as the next big Halo game was released for the 360. Fall next year maybe. Or they will wait until 2010, and give us Recon, Halo 3, and an HEK all in one. By the way, has anyone thought about Recon for PC? I know that wouldn't come out for a while, but maybe Microsoft will have a change of heart.

Ok, there are SEVERAL THINGS wrong with that post, so allow me to better inform you of international copyright laws.

Everything that comes out of your mouth is starting to grate my nerves and make hard-working coders, or workers who are actually in the industry, or 100% capable thereof, look like the little people to you that you can command to do whatever you want whenever you want.

Again, I know people who are in the industry, I have traveled the world and the seven seas. I know what the -blam!- I'm talking about, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let some little punk, know-it-all kid undermine me like you are now.

First and foremost, I said there are no copyright laws here. If copyright laws do not apply to this country, then what is stopping some third-party developer from porting it to the PC? Didn't you say you were a game designer? Don't game designers know this stuff? If you are a game designer then how did you NOT know that?

Secondly, I did not say "Exclusively to China." The only reason it would have any exclusivity to the PRC is the fact that if it is released in the united states by some third party developer, it would be illegal and microsoft / bungie would sue the developers for every penny they are worth.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, can take anything, any movie, any single piece of mainstream american-made entertainment, alter it any way they want and then re-sell it here without penalty.

Thirdly, this is why you don't do drugs, kids.

Ok...um, allow me to say that I don't care about you, or your opinions, or how you seem to want to start a fight every time you post. I am a fairly calm dude compared to others, and you are starting to "grate my nerves" as well. Can't you see that I don't want to argue with you?

The problem with your "no copyright laws" theory is that, yes, third party Chinese game designers can REPRODUCE the game, but without the source codes from Microsoft and Bungie, which they won't be able to get without actually having to make a worldwide game, they can only try to COPY the game, so technically, it wouldn't be Halo 3, just an attempt to make a video game that looks like it.

Again, I will state this, I am not an official game designer yet, just some kid with a dream and a hobby. A "punk know-it-all kid", if you want to call me that. The beauty of a forum is to post my opinions about certain topics. Just because something can be done, like a Chinese Halo 3 video game, doesn't mean it will be done in real life. There is a difference between theory and reality. I suggest that you learn that before you say something even more stupid than you have been saying earlier. Now, if you want to continue to insult me, I suggest that you PM me, instead of wasting all of our time, and the forum and computer space, posting your megalomaniac opinions.

I would also like to apologize to everyone else for wasting your time on this trivial disagreement, and hope that we can start discussing Halo 3 PC topics that matter. I also hope that you, Overmind IV, can grasp the concept of empathy, or even grasp the idea that you are not the smartest person on Earth.

I know I'm not the smartest person on Earth, but I just single-handedly proved that you are NOT a game designer.

If I think you're an idiot, a jerk, a womanizer, or a general nuissance, I will say it to your face.

First and foremost, industry workers don't say "game designer." They say "Environmental artists" "Character artists" "Team Leader" "Engineering lead" and so on.

My best friend in this country works as an unsteady employee of Blizzard of China and Sega of China. Believe it or not, they are still cranking out patches for Warcraft III and Starcraft here.

Secondly, you said you are going to be a game designer one day. You know what? I had tons of friends who said they were going to do the same now. One is doing coke, another one works at taco bell, and so on. I am a teacher in China. I never said I was going to be a teacher. I just came here and did it.

Your style reminds me of a photographer in the small white trash I lived in in America. He would say he was a professional photographer, but his pictures all turned out very crappy, he did not have a DSLR camera, and -most importantly- he would only take pictures of WOMEN. And no matter the age, shape, size, or height, he would always call them models. So, he used his FAKE photography as a way of picking up girls, just like I think you are using your title as "game designer" to gain popularity.

How about you two shut the -blam!- up already? You argue like a pair of five year old kids about something no one gives a rats ass about. Then you both resort to cheap 2 dollar insults and hope that will make you look smarter than the other. Allow me to better inform you that you're BOTH stupid, you're BOTH immature, and you're BOTH grating on MY last nerve with your constant -blam!- arguing.

The both of you need to grow up and act like the -blam!- adults you claim to be.

Hello! Star Wars FTW. Also, join the MAW group. Please?

Field of View (Fov)
Also, Halo 2 (Xbox and PC) had a FoV of 90 degrees.

Really? Halo 2 PC's FoV felt cramped as hell, even with a widescreen moniter. I suppose though maybe it just felt that way becuase it took me forever to turn my view becuase of the enforced mouse slowness in H2V. Which reminds me-
Absolutely no accomadation for XBox 260 controller users! If someones makes Halo 3 PC I really don't want to see little 360 buttons all over it. The 360 controller should be viewed as what it is, an optional controller, not the main device used. Aim assists for controller users is unfair and completely unnaccptable. Not only though did H2V make using a 360 gamepad easier, they made using a mouse harder by making the highest mouse speed setting crap! Absolutely unnacceptable! I refuse to suffer for a minority, and that's what 360 gamepad users are in H2V. It's a PC game!

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

Who's acting like a kid? I'm just being honest.

That is like me saying "Oh, I made this kick ass video, so I am a movie director!" See what I'm getting at?

Actually, it's all you little buddy.

I had a bad day at work and got a little aggro so sue me, you on the other hand just like spending time pulling the "stuck up little twit" card every chance you get. Well you know what? Go ahead and continue to be a stuck up little twit, just try and stay on topic instead of picking apart a guys post to use as fodder for the little "I'm better than you" thing you have going on.

I agree in that Halo 2 had a horrible FoV, and I thinkt hat Halo 3's FoV, while different, also is on the negative side. It just felt so...narrow.

After playing H2V for a while now, I don't notice the mouse control flaws as much, but I agree that it was designed for controllar use, which just goes to show how lazy Microsoft can be with their games. Although I hate to admit it, Halo was designed just for the X box, and the PC has been thrown into an ally and given scraps like dogs. Microsoft just sees us as kids, and doesn't think that we are smart enough to notice how badly they messed up H2V.

If you guys think you simply take a closed source Xbox 360 game and magically port it to work on PC's then, well, you're wrong.

I don't care if it's China or not, and copyright laws don't stop pirate groups (the most likely group to do something like this, and it'd be along the lines of an emulator to run the game than a port as happened with Halo 1).

  • 10.28.2008 4:40 PM PDT

You two people arguing, stop being so silly. It's kinda odd to see the thread creator (well, technically I am the OP.. but most of the content in it isn't even mine) arguing in his own thread =X

Btcc22: I'm going to have to agree with you there. I don't that you can take such a high-caliber product like Halo 2, and just make it open source. The IP is owned by Microsoft.. and I don't think they ever want to let this cash-cow go.

We're just going to have to deal with the fact that Halo 2 Vista is a crappy.. forever. It's just too bad that somewhere inside this crappy port, is an awesome game called Halo 2.

--

Anyway, I don't really know if Halo 3 will be ported to the PC at all. If somewhere down the line it does, I can trust that the port will be left up to the right people this time.

If you ask me, it's a little early to talk about Halo 3 PC. But we'll see what happens.

EDIT: It seems that you are talking about Halo 3, not H2V. My apologies.

Wow...
Ever since i stopped caring about it this place has really gone to hell and Obi doesn't post nearly enough to control the flood of crazies coming in... Time does fly dont it?
As for the game?
Drop it dudes, right now i would think that many would agree after Halo 1, Bungie just turned into Sell outs instead of being actual game devs they wanted to be so sorely,
Sure what they achieved for a console was revolutionary for that platform, but for us PC gamers we crave something that no console could ever replicate. We crave control over our gaming experience, or we crave an experience worth the problems we deal with. The way i see it Halo is a good game, but as for my tastes i despise it. After Halo: CE all it was was a hype circus, just another money cow. Saddens me to know that so many consider PC a dead platform just because of a few niggles. But that said i feel that in any case, it is these niggles, or over blown issues that make PC a platform worth playing on. Why chastisise the imperfections of some creation, when it could be that they are the qualities which make that creation something to be admired.
This applies to consoles too. Gaming for the Masses By the Masses.
And hell they do a damn good job.
Condensed the point is that Bungie isn't going to do anymore for us. They've moved on, were a relic of their earlier ambitions. So stop the nonsense, stop the whining, stop the crap, don't stop being PC gamers, move to toher things. We as PC gamers all advocate the ability to do what ever we see fit in a game, it should be no different regarding our game choices. And Co-op is coming to us via CoD WaW anyways.

Wish Halo 3 PC would come out sooner... :(

I want Halo 3 PC, just so we can have "Our" own custom maps, with any objects we want.
Includes all Vehicles, AI, Scenery, Scripts,dialogue...etc...

If Bungie doesn't allow this on Halo 3 PC, then I'm sure Modders will come to the rescue.
heres hoping it doesn't end up like Halo 2 V

No, actually, Overmind IV is right on this one. And I think Extron117 is being a fraud of some sort.

Saying you're a game designer is like saying you are "Chairman of the U.S.A." instead of saying "president." Or -even better comparison- saying you are a Movie Designer instead of a "Movie Director". There's no such thing.
