I hope halo 3 PC comes and has less issues than H1PC and H2V, only problem is, it would be harder to port due to the fact the 360 has a PowerPC based cpu instead of a x86 cpu like the original Xbox.
Shouldn't make a big difference. In the end its still just C++ code with X360 SDK libraries. Its not like they wrote Halo 3 in PowerPC assembly code or something :PDoesn't mean that the code wasn't optimized for working on the 360. As a friend once said "Halo is a difficult game to port".
Anyway, if Halo 3 does theoretically come out for the PC, I don't think there's anything to worry about if it's ported by a capable team.
I suppose you've got a point. It would've been nice if they hadn't built the engine with only the 360 in mind... though they probably had to make it like that. Without system-specific optimizations, the Blam engine would probably run like crap on an Xbox. I mean look how it runs on our PCs. Either Bungie really needs new engine programmers, or the code really is optimized very precisely for the Xbox, making the porter's jobs a nightmare.
Honestly though sometimes, I think its just incompetence on Bungie's part. I mean just looking at how their content is packaged has to make you question what they were thinking. For instance, a map holds, in addition to the bsp, copies of pretty much every other asset that it uses (models, textures, etc.) instead of loading it all from one external file. That is such a broken system. It wastes tons of space and makes the map load times unbelievable. What kind of smart developer would do things this way? I can't see the advantage to that.
Eh, what do I know though?
