Gunmonkey is NOT a Bungie employee, but I have hopes of Halo 3 Vista, I actually think Bungie would have made more money if they released it for vista, and Xbox, simply because of the ammount of people that would love to play halo 3, but dont have an Xbox, or just can't afford 1.
Bungie could sell H3V for quite alot of money, almost as if it were just released on Xbox, that would also help them greatly with funding for the next Halo developments.
ALL the previous halo's have had the ONLY ON XBOX mark on the cover, and they ALL came to pc YEARS later halo 3 has been out for almost 3 years, it's about time.

why dont you guys just get halo ce and get the modifications for halo 3?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Unless someone has some insider information from MS, there's no way for us to tell if Halo 3 is coming to PC or not.

The only thing we can do now
is to sit down and pray that
the end of the Covenant will come
to the PC, at long long last.

On the other hand, its not Halo 3 Vista, It's probably, Halo 3...7?

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

If that's the case then it'll probably be about as crap as H2V, ported by some friggin' college dropout code monkeys who get dropped along with all support for the game mere months after release.

Then again, maybe Microsoft will surprise us. Maybe H3PC will come, maybe it will be good, and maybe GfWL won't be absolutely terrible.

I hope this time, we'll be allowed maps with AI, scripts, special FX
and I hope they fix all vehicles, like the Pelican and Phantom, that still have no collision on land.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

I hope halo 3 PC comes and has less issues than H1PC and H2V, only problem is, it would be harder to port due to the fact the 360 has a PowerPC based cpu instead of a x86 cpu like the original Xbox.

Shouldn't make a big difference. In the end its still just C++ code with X360 SDK libraries. Its not like they wrote Halo 3 in PowerPC assembly code or something :P

Doesn't mean that the code wasn't optimized for working on the 360. As a friend once said "Halo is a difficult game to port".

Anyway, if Halo 3 does theoretically come out for the PC, I don't think there's anything to worry about if it's ported by a capable team.

I suppose you've got a point. It would've been nice if they hadn't built the engine with only the 360 in mind... though they probably had to make it like that. Without system-specific optimizations, the Blam engine would probably run like crap on an Xbox. I mean look how it runs on our PCs. Either Bungie really needs new engine programmers, or the code really is optimized very precisely for the Xbox, making the porter's jobs a nightmare.

Honestly though sometimes, I think its just incompetence on Bungie's part. I mean just looking at how their content is packaged has to make you question what they were thinking. For instance, a map holds, in addition to the bsp, copies of pretty much every other asset that it uses (models, textures, etc.) instead of loading it all from one external file. That is such a broken system. It wastes tons of space and makes the map load times unbelievable. What kind of smart developer would do things this way? I can't see the advantage to that.

Eh, what do I know though?

It does give map makers an advantage, though, as you can make customized versions of weapons or viechles as in H2V (heretic banshee, turretless warthog, alternete weapons) or Halo:Custom edition. But when it comes to a disc based system like the XBOX 360, it just makes it take it like forever to load (halo 1/2 xbox campagin mode).

Also, this is still just a rumor and that one monstrmoose thread was speculation.

Which means this could be fake like some other MS rumors (Zune Phone, xbox 720) or real (Zune HD, 360 price drops, Windows release dates)

But then really, why not load the default assets from an external file while still allowing modders to compile their own custom assets into the map file itself?

As long as who ever ports it doesn't -blam!- it up, looks at what Gearbox did minus the netcode(blame MS) and doesn't go close to Halo 2 Vista...it should be a decent port oh and allow the like of Custom Edition to Halo 3

Uh I'm a bit of a noob, what's an "Achronos"?

Nintenman7: Apply yourself... Seggi31: HHHHNNNNNNGGGGG

What Bungie needs to do:

1. Convert Halo 3 to Mac and PC.
2. Provide editing tools for it, such as the ones they used to edit the game currently, and allow users with Maya to make their own BSPs.
3. Take out some of the blocks put into the game for modders.
4. Make a UB version.
5. Throw in a couple extra maps and a community where maps can be made and added in for free.
6. Make sure both the Mac and PC communities are well fed and properly mixed and combined.
7. Stop using live as a server provider.
8. Allow for LAN style game-choosing as well as the Matchmaking/Game lobby system.
9. Make billions.

I agree with some of those, But they should keep using live as it is better than gamespy or worse, $team with faux gamerscore and achivements unlike the real ones in XBOX Live. And it wont be for mac as Microsoft owns the rights to halo.

[] Co-op, would be good option to have more than 4, (since PC should be able to handle more)
and also the ping meter in Co-op mode, Download speed and upload speed.
[] Please let us have AI on custom maps, or in forge. just like in this > video.

Aaaaaaaaaaactually, it's not necessarily Gearbox's fault, if at all.

You have to realize that when Halo 1 was created, it was created for a virtually zero-lag environment - System Link. Network latency was never really taken into consideration when the game was first developed. Nobody intended Halo 1 to be a fully online, networked game. And that didn't really change with the coming of Halo PC. Gearbox's job was to port Halo - fixing the lag issue would involve muddling with the game's source code in a profound way, which just wasn't feasible.

I don't think it's anyone's fault, really - and I don't even want to know how your "blame Microsoft" fits in to here.

The net code was redone anyway. They didn't use the networking code that Xbox used (according to them). The two models are entirely different ways of working.

As much as Gearbox tried to point the blame at Microsoft, I, as I'm sure others do, still feel that they are responsible for many of the shortcomings of the game. The net code is only one of many issues that the game has.

Lacking dedicated server. Poor graphical performance. Failure to integrate custom maps into HPC rather than a new client. Not fixing bugs that have been there since release. The game just lacked so many basics that you'd expect from an FPS.

They also had a thing about dangling things infront of the community and never delivering on their word. Where was that balance patch they promised for HPC? Those two extra maps they never finished in time for release?

I only agree with some of those. Most of them would ruin the game.

1. Converting Halo 3 to PC and Mac would be nice.
2. The map editor that Halo 3 has right now is fine. No need to make another one.
3. Taking out the blocks in the game would ruin everything. Modders would corrupt the game and ruin everything by using mods and trainers to cheat in matchmaking.
4. I have no idea what you mean by UB version but sounds like something I would disagree with.
5. Instead of making extra maps, they should make the game cross-platform compatible. Halo 2 PC wasn't cross-platform compatible because it lacked 2 of the Xbox maps and instead had two of its own maps.
6. Halo 3 PC will end up like Halo 2 PC where once its released, they just leave it alone. Bungie is much more busy focusing on the Xbox Live community where the real money is.
7. There are sooooo many more benefits to using Xbox Live rather than what every other game uses. Xbox Live allows you to have friend lists and allows you to chat and send messages. Plus, on the Xbox 360, it allows you to video chat and chat with multiple people at one time. Regular PC games without live don't even let you do any of that stuff. Plus, Live is free for PC games now and it is generally not as laggy as what other server providers were because Live requires a minimum connection speed.
8. The current matchmaking system is fine. And with Xbox Live, the LAN-Style game choosing is useless as you can just invite or join a friend's game on your friends list or recent players list. The Halo 2 PC matchmaking was terrible. All it does is send you to a game that's already started. The matchmaking system should be like on the XBox 360 where players are paired up and the game chooses a gametype and map automatically so all players start at the same time and no one else can join.
9. Halo 3 PC barely even sell a fraction what Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 sold. By the time Halo 3 PC comes out, another Halo game for the Xbox 360 will be available and that game instantly dominate. So Halo 3 PC probably isn't worth making and Bungie should focus their resources on the Xbox 360 versions of Halo.

Console kids think it's nice. A REAL editor like UEd or Sandbox would be more appropriate.

3. Taking out the blocks in the game would ruin everything. Modders would corrupt the game and ruin everything by using mods and trainers to cheat in matchmaking.

You don't understand the way things work in PC land, do you?

Posted by: General Heed
5. Instead of making extra maps, they should make the game cross-platform compatible. Halo 2 PC wasn't cross-platform compatible because it lacked 2 of the Xbox maps and instead had two of its own maps.

Then the console noobs would get pissed because real FPS players keep kicking their asses with the mouse/kb.

Posted by: General Heed
6. Halo 3 PC will end up like Halo 2 PC where once its released, they just leave it alone. Bungie is much more busy focusing on the Xbox Live community where the real money is.

This much is true. If H3PC is released, it won't be supported for long, if at all.

7. There are sooooo many more benefits to using Xbox Live rather than what every other game uses. Xbox Live allows you to have friend lists and allows you to chat and send messages. Gonna call you out on this. If LIVE is so superior to everything else, how come my ping in Source games beats the living hell out of anything I've experienced on LIVE? Not to mention a friends list is something everyone who's a PC gamer has (Xfire?), and that of course allows you to chat and send messages. Given that, not only does the PC already have everything LIVE has, but it does it BETTER.

There's a reason Valve chose dedicated servers for L4D over the traditional LIVE setup. Microsoft's "host system" blows my nuts.

Posted by: General Heed
8. The current matchmaking system is fine.

Not having a game browser is a terrible idea. For any PC FPS.
