Halo 2 Vista is an unsupported product, so who is going to support it?
where's the proof that shows it is in mainstream support?
Microsoft has released a open source game, without the networking component, so it will still work.
GFWL isn't an integration, it is an addon, only certain aspects of H2V will call upon xlive.dll like achievements, signing in and multiplayer.

Have you seen this? (GTA) IV-MP
This works by removing GFWL, GFWL is just an addon, which is why it can be removed so easily, it isn't 100% dependent on running with the game.

Microsoft still supports it. It's just that there hasn't been an update for awhile. Here's the proof:

http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&x=17& ;y=18&p1=12429
=O
omg, knowing this, doesn't change the current situation, or maybe talking to the right people could. xD

This game has gone over 2 years without an update. wow.

Well, if there's a need for a major update, then I'm sure Microsoft will release one. Like if Halo 2 Vista's AI suddenly started getting ideas and took over our computer systems so it can launch nukes and create machines to take over the world, then I'm sure Microsoft would release a patch to fix that.

Microsoft still didn't support it, when gunmonkey80 (bungie impersonator/superhacker/crasher) went on the loose, crashing H2V's games and gamebrowser for 2 months, lots of complaints. nothing came from it.
Upto this day his crashing technique still works, all because Bungie or FiredGun are soo dumb, they didn't support extended characters.

Well technically, Halo 2 Vista isn't out of support yet. It still falls under Microsoft's Mainstream Lifecycle Support Policy. So it shouldn't be open source yet under your ideas. The problem with them making their software open source is that not every component of that software is no longer updated. Windows Product Activation will never be open source and that's a huge part of Halo 2 Vista. Windows XP will never be open source because its WINNT codebase will also be made open source and that could cause potential security problems with future WINNT-based operating systems.

Keep in mind, different components of software can be kept locked inside a compiled library instead of open sourcing them, like how you can use Live functionality in Xna but you can't actually modify Live itself. Any part of the software that they don't want anyone else messing with they can keep under wraps. Another example: Quake 3 Arena is open source, however the graphics rendering component was left closed.

Well, as long as Microsoft still owns the rights to Halo 2 Vista, they're never going to make it open source.

No. Halo 3 for PC does not exist. Plus why did you post here if you can't even understand that this thread is a discussion about what people would like to see if Halo 3 for PC was developed and released.

I personally don't think Halo 3 for PC will be created.
But here's my idea: Since Bungie and Activision are partners why not let Activision make Halo 3 for PC. Activision still makes PC games.

Then maybe Halo 3 PC would be on Valve. Wouldn't That be awesome.

Microsoft has the rights to Halo

Bungie/Activision is irrelevant. Besides if Activision DID make H3PC, it would be no different than the 360 version.

Personally I would prefer Halo 3 PC to be a Games For Windows Live Game and distributed through the Games on Demand service.

But anyways, even though Bungie partnered with Activision, it doesn't make any difference. Bungie no longer owns the rights to the Halo Franchise. Microsoft owns those rights now. So only Microsoft can decide to make a PC version of Halo 3, not Bungie.

I guess I should have known that.

Bungie no longer owns the rights to the Halo Franchise. Microsoft owns those rights now. So only Microsoft can decide to make a PC version of Halo 3, not Bungie.

This might sound silly but I've got to ask: Does Microsoft give project assignments to Bungie? Was it Microsoft who had the idea for Halo Reach and then had Bungie Studios develop it?

I know those two questions probably cannot be answered with complete confidence. I mean how could you know for sure whether or not Microsoft gives product assignments to Bungie unless you work for Microsoft or Bungie? But I appreciate any answers to my questions.

I think Bungie already had the idea to make it. They just had to ask Microsoft permission to make another Halo game and if Microsoft said ok, then Bungie can go ahead and make the game.

Actually, Halo 2 Vista was released before Halo 3. Anyway, I see what you mean and I hope it too.

Activision has confirmed that Bungie's new game will be coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The project will be the first instalment in Bungie's new 'action universe' - and the debut offering from its ten-year deal with Activision.

Activision CFO Thomas Tippl said this evening in an E3 earnings call that the release would "move the needle" in terms of sales potential.

"If you just look at the performance of Halo 3, that sold nine million on 360 with an incredible 40 per cent attach rate," he said. "[Look at] the projected install base of 70 million 360s and PS3 this year, with the PC opportunity... which when combined with Bungie.net quickly gets [the game] to growth and market potential that will move the needle in a significant way."

Either way, it's not up to Bungie anymore. It's up to Microsoft. Bungie doesn't own the Halo Franchise anymore.

Halo 3 and Halo Reach might come out for PC once the next generation consoles are here, or maybe if we're lucky, within the next 2 years. Microsoft should seriously consider PC gamers though, I could imagine the sales of Halo 3 PC and Halo Reach PC making up for any losses due to free Games for Windows Live and other conditions.

You know, if Microsoft's goal was to make money. Then they should just make Xbox Live free like they did with Games For Windows Live. One of the primary reasons a lot of people choose the PS3 instead is because it has free online. But if Xbox Live were free, sales will go up a lot.

Exactly.

I already pay a hefty sum for my Verizon internet service. So why does Microsoft charge for online play? It's not like Microsoft has a shortage of cash. Sheesh.

Plus you even have to have an XBOX Live Gold membership to use Netflix. Just ridiculous.

Xbox live is a dumb service (...not), they take and never give back.
They don't even provide high quality dedicated servers for every single country they support.

This is also partly the reason they show "color bars" for connection quality so, you don't know how crappy your internet is.

Is Xbox Live a gaming service? it better provide better connections to hosts and clients far and wide.

You know what makes me laugh, Xbox Live gets killed of by too many connections at every Christmas. lol.

Actually, the interesting thing is that I've personally never had any issues with xbox live. The only thing I don't like is being disconnected from Xbox Live to download and install an update. But I guess that's better than PC games where in some cases you need to restart your computer. If your computer is slow, then updating will be a huge annoyance. But other than that, Xbox Live has been perfectly fine for me in the 3 years I've had it.

There was only one christmas where I did experience some slight issues with Xbox Live. Supposedly Xbox Live was down, but I managed to still sign onto it along with about 2 of my other friends (2 out of 100). It was hard to send messages and chat invites to those 2 other friends. That was about the only time I had any significant issue with Xbox Live.

Personally, I think Xbox Live is a great gaming service. While I do prefer it to be free, I still think it's worth the money.

I'm going to need some grenades....

The map editing system (Forge System) should be some what like Gary's Mod only with out the crapy weapons used to pick up objects. The player should still be Guilty sparks though. This would allow for maxium editing.

So you are basically saying you want another forge, right?
Forge isn't even a map editor. A real map editor would be far better then forge.

A Map editor for the map and a forge for object placement, is probably what he means.

I think the purpose of Forge is to be a very user friendly map editor. The average Halo 3 player isn't going to invest the extra time into learning how to use a real map editor. Forge is simple and easy to use and usually gets the job done right every time. Now for the PC version of Halo 3, a real map editor would be ok because there are tons of people willing to learn the real map editor.
