wow you guys need to stop playing on pc and get ur a$$ on the Console.
Pc is good for one thing, Pr0n.
PC's are good for many many things such as programming, 3D model creation, games, web browsing, word processing...etc.
Consoles are only good for one thing: gaming.
Plus, as DusK said, come back when your brain is fully capable of rational thought.
Theoretically, a console can do pretty much anything a PC can as it is just a PC on the inside. It's just a matter of software. The Xbox 360 does actually have keyboard support. Making it possible to do word processing and web browsing. You can already do all that on the PS3.
The 360 is not just for gaming. It's also for home entertainment. It's kind of like an all-in-one machine minus bluray. Anyways, stuff like word processing, email, etc. can all be done in the cloud through a web browser hence Google's Chrome OS. Programming can also be done in the cloud. There are online IDE's and Compilers out there. I think Windows Azure also provides a similar service. Basically anything can be installed locally on the Xbox 360 as like an app. The Xbox 360's OS can literally be used like a tablet OS.
I doubt if you guys keep up with the latest updates for the 360, but the upcoming dashboard will look a lot like Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8 (you guys probably saw that). Of course, this is all just in theory as Microsoft currently does not allow development of custom apps for the Xbox 360. I guess Indie Games would be custom apps, but they're purely for gaming and nothing else.
Yes consoles are computers on the inside. But right now consoles cannot do all that laptops and desktops can do because they are not designed for doing anything other than gaming and home entertainment. Consoles are geared toward gaming use while computers currently have more uses.
Sure maybe in the future consoles will be the new home computers that can do it all. But for now consoles are mainly for gaming.
Then in the further future we'll all be using the cloud and gaming with high powered tablet computers and won't have any need for consoles.
If I'm not mistaken, the Wii and the PS3 both have web browsers. Google seems to think that everything can be done in the cloud right now (Chrome OS & Chromebook). It is kind of true already since word processing, one of the most common tasks on the PC can be done using Google Docs or Office Live.
I'm not so sure if tablets are the future of gaming. If tablets are the future, then soon, both Mouse & Keyboard and the Controller will become obsolete. Touch screen gaming will be used for everything. Personally I find that hard to envision, but who knows? I don't think many people thought PC's would be all the rage back in the 60's or that the Internet would dominate people's lives. Maybe the same will happen with touch screens.
Like I said, it's all a matter of software. Soon, hardware will be completely taken out of the picture. The day will come when people can play Crysis in a cell phone at max settings through cloud gaming.
