brutes couldn't have been in the Covenant for a long time because the Elites and prophets were the 2 original races to form the Covenant

I wish someone would quote something to make these comments factual. I've heard compelling arguments both ways about how long the brutes have been in the club. Someone please site something true.

i may be wrong but i don't think that we were just fighting grunts and jackals in the beginning, i'm pretty sure that there were hunters and elites too. if it was just grunts and jackals, the marines are even more pathetic than i thought

No one is disputing how pathetic the marines are (or rather were in Halo: CE). They're pretty much fleshy shields to me.

if it was just grunts and jackals invading at first then the human race is doomed cuz being overrun by a bunch of grunts is pathetic even for the marines. now with the brutes, the marines have no chance

i don't know about the brutes but i do know that the elites and prophets were the original covenant because i saw it in the covenant update Bungie put up on Bungie.net a while back

There were 300 Elite Imperial Guards inside there. It also said that the Elites were offended by the Brute being so close to the Prophet of High Truth.

Early a copy of Cortana even said that the Brutes were Temple Gaurds and nothing else. Not ceremonial, but Temple. There is a difference.

Another thing where I say the Brutes are probably old in the Covenant ranks.

The UNSC is just finding out about these other species within the Covenant ranks. From 2525 to 2552 all we fought were Grunts and Jackals. It was not until July of 2552 on Sigma Octanus IV that we saw our first Hunter or Engineer. And it was not until the Fall of Reach that we saw our first Elite.

Right now (in 2552) the Covenant are just finally pulling back the stops on their higher ranked units is all they are doing. They are rolling out the higher, and I am assuming, the races that are getting fed up with the Grunts and Jackals getting all the kills.

Trust me, this is true. It clearly states in each instance that this is true. After Sigma Octanus IV the Spartans were debriefed on their exsistance and the UNSC added them to their known knowledge of the Covenant ranks. They also did likewise for the Engineers. Then they even speculated on another " Elite " race that could be in exsistance. When the first Elites then appeared on the Circumference Space Station above Reach the Chief thought this more or less. " So this was an Elite, it was time t see what this new form of Covenant threat could do. "

Elites were introduced then, Hunters and Engineers at Sigma Octanus IV and Grunts + Jackals between 2525 and 2552.

sorry i didn't know about the other races and the dates they appeared on, but i don't think anyone knows how long brutes have been around

Ok. Assuming you are indeed correct, which seems likely, then there is no reason the elites would not be furious with the prophets and brutes. If the original pact was between the prophets and elites, the brute intrusion would be most unwelcome to the proud elites.

Think about it. It really is not that hard for the Covenant to win on the ground. The Covenant mass Grunts by the thousands and send them rushing to their doom. They do likewise for Jackals. If the Covenant lose on the ground, which happens every time the Spartans are involved and maybe 3 in every 5 times when they are not, then they just go into orbit and glass the planet simple as that.

It is not the ground war that we should be concerned about winning, but rather in space. Hell a fair space fight is when we outnumber the Covenant 3 to 1. That is just a fiar fight! In the entire war we've won 5 space battles that make any difference. The retaking of Harvest, Draco III, Sigma Octanus IV, Halo, and Operation: First Strike. That's it. Other than that the Covenant have glassed planet after planet wiping out the human race as they do it. As well as destroying our fleet and forcing us to run.

Get back on topic. Will the elites join with the humans?

they may not join with humans, but they could start a civil war within the covenant, which in turn would help us. like the old saying "the enemy of your enemy is your friend"

Wouldn't it also make sense that you are able to play as the elites if in the single player the elites joined forces with the humans? Those elites love to fight, I'm not sure they care who it is.

  • 06.28.2004 9:57 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

ender the Elites obviously will not join the humans,so let people discuss Halo if they want

Good point. It doesn't matter if they are intentionally helping us does it.

You certainly think you have it all figured out huh. Unless you work for Bungie, let me use my thread as I see fit. Thanks. If you don't like it, make your own.

the Elites have too much pride to align with the lowly humans, but if they are pushed to a certain point, you never know.....

maybe the elites will turn on the covenant but that doesn't really mean they will team up with humans, a possible solutin could be that it would kind of turn into a three-way war. and if you don't like my idea then tell me if you like it or don't. don't cuss me out cause you don't like my idea

hey ender, your not the only one who has thought o this before me and my brother have had the same idea. also humans aren't the only species that the elite think are lowly the fell superior to jackels and grunts and they still align with them.

i never said i didnt like this thread, douche. i wasnt even flaming his opinion.but from the way the story is developing, its pretty obvious that the humans and Elites are not going to join.its his opinion(what else would it be?),and ill just leave it at that.

I didn't rip your idea off, I merely conjectured later. But, you're second thought is much more interesting. Very good point! i'd say humans are above both of those races on the "despised by elite" scale. Why not align with humans to get revenge on the prophets and brutes. Good work Tvo.

its Bungie's decision, not ours, moron. if they see fit to align elites with humans, then they will
