Uh-NO!

I truly doubt Bungie will have any sort of betrayl on the Covenant end of that sort. Plus the Brutes have been inside the Covenant for a long time. They'd have to be in order to be made Temple Guards.

Dude if the brutes were in the covenant a long time how come we didnt see them in halo 1? like the guy with the good idea said the brutes were better thats why they are gaurding the prophets now. plus they werent mentioned in the books until most recently. AND xbm said that the story line will focus more on the hierarcy and possibly an argument within their ranks.

The brutes may have been in the covenant a long time, the prophets simply haven't seen fit to send them to war against us yet. As has already been proven already, we didn't know about the hunters, engineers and elites for some time. Perhaps it is just that he covenant only apply as much force as is necessary to accomplish the mission. Once they realized that the Master Chief is kicking their ass on Halo they figure they have to send in the brutes to kill him before he stops them. I also like the idea of the Elites rebelling against the brutes and the prophets. The elites are too proud to be upstaged by another species without spouting off about it. But I think their religious tendencies and their reasons for destroying humanity in the first place will prevent them from joining with the chief. Although we might see some battles where you dont' need to do much, simply because the brutes and the elites will blow the crap out of each other before you even need to move in (kinda like the flood and covenant in Halo 1).

A bunch of people said that they don't think the Elites would team up with MC, because they hate the UNSC so much. I don't think this is an issue, because if you play through Legendary on Halo 1, an Elite hugs a Marine (because they both knew they were going to die anyways). So, I think the Elites technically could have a change of heart and work with the UNSC to defeat the Covenant, if, perhaps, they were under a threat.

Yah, but having elites as squadmates would make much more sense then having spartans. Like if an elite died in a level, it wouldn't change the story much since there are a bunch, but if one of the few spartans died in a level, the whole story would change.

You do realize that ending on Legendary was just supposed to be a joke right?

Yeah, I'm pretty much certain that was just a joke too.

Back to the elites defecting...A few people have said that teaming up with MC and the rest of the marines is unlikely but that if they fought the covenant on their own terms it wouldn't really matter. It's still a good situation for humanity. Sounds reasonable, and just as likely as a merger. Where do the flood fit into this hypothetical scenario? You know they'll be back with a vengence.

Even if it was a joke, that doesn't mean that it isn't true; as in that doesn't mean that Elites really aren't fickle. But just to elaborate on whether or not it WAS a joke, watch the Halo 2 Documentary. They showed that scene, and it wasn't at a time they were talking about "jokes" in the game. In fact, they were talking about all the things they left out of Halo 1, after it finished.

I'm not saying you're wrong, it could very well be just an easter egg "joke" for completing Legendary. I'm just saying that that doesn't mean Elites AREN'T like that (even if it was a joke).

Shame it was confirmed to be an egg for beating Legendary and a joke a long time ago. Like just shortly after Halo's release on the Xbox.

I never said it wasn't an egg! I was stating that even if it was an egg/joke, it doesn't mean it can't be taken literally....

Are you then saying that that scene was completely made up, and it didn't really happen in the Halo universe? It was just for "kicks"? I think that this scene, although humorous, can tell us about how the Elites are, how they are fickle creatures. And how if they were under desperate measures and needed help, they probably WOULD team up with their enemies, if it meant saving their own butt.

I dunno if someones said this but if you notice when going through the levels that all the elites ,grunts, jackals have different color combos? Its gotta be some kind of rank recognition or something of seniority. The only aliens ive seen without differences in this topic are the hunters. Why this is I am not sure but something in halo 2 is about to tell us the whole story on that im sure of it.

Blue Shielded Jackal- Expendable
Yellow Shielded Jackal - Junior officer

Blue Elite- n00b Elite
Red Elite- Squad Leader
Stealth Elite- Special Forces
Black Elite- Veteran Special Forces
Gold Elite- Field Master

nice thinking, but the Elites absolutely hate humans. The most likely race to turn against the Covenant empire would be the hunters. They are not religious fanatics like the rest and only are in it because they respect the elites.

Although I don't believe my theory is COMPLETELY off-track, your's is also a good point.... Which brings up another question: what is the relationship between the Hunters and the rest of the Covenant, such as the Brutes or Prophets?

I too have heard that the hunters are rather disgruntled with the whole covenant empire. Apparently they're pissed off about something. Personally, I'd rather have an elite covering my ass than a hunter (unless significant improvements for the hunter are made for Halo 2.)

Where did you hear about the Hunters? Not trying to be rude, but I haven't heard ANY word about the Hunters in Halo 2 from Bungie, or anyone else for that matter.

True, and it's fun to speculate. I definitely think that Bungie has some big plans for the Hunters, though, as they haven't been mentioned at all. Having them rebel against the rest of the Covies would be an interesting twist to the storyline....

in the books hunters had no true storyline so why not a big twist in the next one envolving something they hadn't really used yet for ensuing entertainment

I wouldn't mind some hunter help. Provided they're new and improved. Although the energy weapons that the covies carry are pretty worthless on the hunters already (in Halo). So maybe even without improvements that'd rock. Of course, if the AI is smart enough for elites and jackals and the rest to pick up other weapons, marine weapons, then the hunters do need some additional plating.

Two things. The Hunters have been mentioned for Halo 2, read the earlier updates and you'll see what I mean. Also about the silver Elites, there are none. Those are stealth Elites.
