repeat after me

"NO REMAKES, I WANT NEW MAPS"
No. That would be a lie.

I sort of agree with you, actually. While any remake could never live up to what it was in CE, I seriously question Bungie's map design philosophy. Many of Halo 3's maps aren't that good. There are maybe 2 or 3 maps that everyone in general really likes, and then there's a lot more that everyone in general hates. Compare that to Halo 1, where every map is generally great. I don't know where things went wrong, but they did.

We've had enough remakes

Avalanche=Sidewinder
Vahalla=Blood Gulch/Coagulation
Blackout=Lockout
Cold Storage=Chill Out
Last Resort=Zanzibar

We need more origional maps

Assembly - new
Avalanche - reimagination (not a remake)
Blackout - remake
Cold Storage -remake
Construct - new
Epitaph - new
Foundry - new
Ghost Town - new
Guardian - new
High Ground - new
Isolation - new
Last Resort - remake
Narrows - new
Rat's Nest - new
Sandtrap - new
Snowbound - new
Space Camp/Moonbase Alpha - new
Standoff - new
The Pit - new
Valhalla - new (definitely not a remake)

OMG. Stop the remakes!

3/20 are actual remakes
3/18 if you don't want to include unreleased maps
5/18 if you don't want to include unreleased maps while including non-remakes in your list

Between 15% and 28%
It's well within reason. Plus, the maps people complain about the most are the new maps. Blackout also has complaints, but that's mainly due to the changes. The complaints are also not universal. I'd say we need more remakes.

Lmao. Thank you. I've said that more time than I can count. We've had four remakes out of the 20 we have/are getting. And seriously, why would we risk getting another new map which would end up like Epitaph, Snowbound, or Isolation? Why don't we just use what we know works?

I'd love a remake of BG and Hang em High. They'd both be tons of fun to see again in the Halo 3 world.

Well, it's not really Hang 'Em High per se. The lack of fall damage and the changes to weapon effectiveness have changed gameplay substantially enough that it would not be remotely close to the playing "feel" of Halo: CE's Hang 'Em High.

The ceiling in Foundry is too low to produce a real Hang 'em High remake, and as chickenlittle said, the lack of fall damage and weapon changes create something far different from Halo: CE's Hang 'em High. Map possibilities just seem to be reduced by all of Bungie's decisions. Removing fall damage reduces map possibilities. While I can appreciate the more fluid gameplay, it comes at a high cost; maps become much less interesting. It's easier to run away from battles. Movement becomes much less calculated. Height just becomes an annoyance rather than a real tool in map design.

The progression from the pistol to the Halo 2 BR to the Halo 3 BR has limited map possibilities. Without a decent mid-to-long-range weapon, maps have to be built to accommodate this. Wide open areas are no longer possible with a sniper on the map. It becomes uncontested at long range. Maps are left with excessive elevation changes (Valhalla, Narrows) or without a sniper rifle (Standoff). Blood Gulch is of course awesome enough to be an exception to the rule.

The change from ladders and teleporters to lifts and man cannons has reduced possibilities. These devices are fairly line of sight devices. You move on a preset path with little variation. Even if they wanted to use the teleporters, they don't function properly. Ladders could still work, but they have something against those. Ladders give a person the opportunity to reconsider use in the middle of operation, rather than moving them on a preset path directly into a shotgun or sword wielder.

Try to properly remake something like Prisoner or Damnation with these changes. Damnation could probably survive with lifts replacing the teleporters and ladders, but the lack of fall damage and pistol are nearly irrecoverable. Prisoner suffers from almost all the changes. It would be very difficult to make a decent Prisoner without ladders. While I'm not a huge fan of Boarding Action, try making that without ladders. Mix that with the BR's range the lack of fall damage, and you have something that's not even close to the original.

Well, there's also the removal of the hybrid health system. It was ingenius, and they ruined it. ;...(

That's another disappointing decision they made, but at least it has less of an effect on map creation. I was just trying to list the decisions with the biggest impact on map creation. The health system, relatively speaking, has a fairly consistent impact on different maps.

I think that Halo 3 should be made up of mostly new maps altough this will most likeley be the last first person halo which sticks with the main story I think there should also be a decent amount of classic maps since there have been 2 games with many cool maps that I would like to see re-magined yet the same to.
