After much controvery on another thread, I decided to make another concerning this topic. I've heard compelling arguments both ways. Some say that elites and prophets formed the first alliance. Others say that the brutes have been guarding temples before the elites could pick up swords. So which is it?

the prophets and elites made the original pact and then the other species followed later.

The very name "Covenant," originated with a pact between the two senior species - the Prophets and the Elites.

Sounds good to me too. Still there are those that claim that elites have no right to defect for reasons of jealously and revenge. See my other thread. Campaign plot. Is this too obvious?

I'd like to hear from those that are undecided or think that the brutes have been around longer than the elites.

Well the fact of the matter is, while that is a direct quote, I believe that it's just a quote of a human talking about what they think. If not, correct me as to the source of the quote. But going on that, we don't know much about the Brutes at all, and I think it's very possible that they were, at the very least, involved, with the forming of the pact. It doesn't really matter though, as it appears that they have taken a spot high in the Covenant hierarchy anyway.

its in the covie update that Frankie put on Bungie.net a few months ago. it says the prophets and elites, not brutes, were the original species involved in forming the Covenant

In that case, then it's pretty obvious that the Elites were first...

Shouldn't even be a discussion.
