I am not saying that shutting down your operation is the wrong thing for you to be doing, but you could try finding a different aproach to it, see how that works out, and then shut the thing down. Rediscover your passion for it that you had in the first place, then go all out in sharing that passion with those who frequent your site. it is obvious that this thing is important to you, other wise there would probaly not be so much strong emotion running through your thread about quitting it.

ShyGuy has quite a valid point. Treat yourself man! You cant be expected to please everyone all of the time. Besides, how can you make others happy when all in all, you are not? Take a day off and do something you are passionate about.

First off, Ace man chill out, its no wonder you got banned out of these forums once before. this place really shouldn't be for flaming people even if you do strongly disagree... if that's the case as is it is right here... just keep your fingers away from posting in the thread (Keep your digital mouth shut)
I got banned for saying 'no*b' so know wonder, did you even know that i have gotten banned from Every single forum i have been on? it dose not matter to me, i just stop comming back, like today and yesterday is my first day back here in about 2 months

DUDE, you think maybe you've been banned from EVERY forum you've been on because you tend to take your aggressions out on ppl over the internet. and to answer your last comment that you IMed me with since you left so promptly. no I don't HAVE to be a good samratan, but I CHOOSE to be, it pays to be nice to people man. and even if you don't entirely agree or are tired of that particualr person -blam!-ing at least RESPECT their opinion from the get go rather than it having to take a couple of flames back and fourth. and as far as you having a hard life yes I understand that sometimes aggression needs to be taken out but forums or talking trash to other people is not the way to do it. find something more creative.... there is a reason I am as good as I am at guitar...

*notices the part about it still being up and feels like all that typing was for noting....* ............. *sigh*

The site is back up?! Mis-read me thinks...

It's been a few hours now since I originally posted and I've calmed down. This is not the only forum I've posted on about closure and the thing that strikes me with every forum is people are coming out of the woodwork to (mostly) make posts asking me not to close...

I am loyal to this place and don't really post anywhere else much unless I have to, so you can imagine my suprise! To be honest, the response has been outstanding, but it would have been nice to have this sort of thing while I was still running the site.

It's made me think though... Do you lot really think that much of it (excluding Ace)? If everyone feels so strongly about the situation and I can drum up enough support, I will reopen. If any of you have any suggestions / ideas / work arounds, talk to me.

I want to see this NOT go down the tube even more than you!

*sigh* sry maybe I did misread.... *can be slow sometimes* and of course we are coming out of the woodwork to support you man.... like I said, I never really went to the site but I still feel I must get involved! and as far as suggestions, I hope you have the source coding or even the html pages saved onto your comp somewhere (via acrophillia or whatever) that way it'll be easy as pie to put your site back up. and as far as more suggestions, I suggest looking for a cheaper host.... granted I know nothing about actually hosting sites where you can download things but I'M TRYING!!! lol

... and I appreciate it. Thing is, I doubt I will be able to better what I already pay for. Upto 80gb a month is included in the price I pay, but it's the excess bandwidth that's the killer. If it wasn't for the extra bandwidth every month, things would be fine.

I don't want help to pay for the initial costs... I will cover that.

waah... i loved that site... and i never clicked ads... i never saw any... :'( must be that adblock thing in mozilla...

but... you could have done something like redvsblue, where a donation gets people special rights or something

cause all the stupid selfish people out there dont pay if it doesnt benefit them DIRECTLY. if it means eventual closure of the site, they dont bother

arseholes

the only reason i dont pay for websites is cause i have nothing to pay with. im flat broke (except the money ive been saving for a long while for a new mobo)

*tear* this whole problem makes me feel bad about not being into CE enough. If it gives u any support Muffmeister finding out about a reliable site to find CE maps might just start me playing CE more. I know I can download them off of download.com but it's really awesome to know that someone's out there commited to this stuff, not just some lifeless server out there with inforamtion on it. I guess it's just community really. Anyways, good luck if u ever try the site again. I guess all there is to say now is: YOU CAN DO IT!!! *with accent*

A few ideas, might help if you care to brainstorm. Not sure what the site consists of already since, well you closed it.

1. Figure out if you have any site interface issues that can be addressed to make it sleeker and easier for people to get around with.

2. Communitee involvement. Let people submit reviews for the maps right on the down load page. On top of that, let people rate others reviews, rating systems for reviews keep reviewers in check and increase the quality of the writing.

3. Add an area for people to review servers, write editorials on their experiances with that server. Whether it be to recomend or condemn.

4. Make it a friendly intellectually stimulating environment, that is capable of building a comunitee around the site. This you will find is the most important thing you can do.

I am kind of tapped out of ideas right now. Take the ball and roll with it.

Heyyo,

Nicely put Jaysin. Ace? you're starting to piss me off. DON'T EVER FLAME MUFF EVER AGAIN. He's a good online bud. I suggest you appalogize for the rude things you said. Muff did soo much for the HaloCE community. Definately more than us. Sure, I advertised HaloCE and his site, but that's nothing compared to actually running that site, and a HaloCE server sometimes.

Muff? even if the site's down permanently? I'd still be happy to game with you on HaloCE. Now with me new vidcard? more than ever. =D

Next time you act immature and flame anyone important? that's it, youre out of DH. Remember our goal: to have a good time with mature and fun players that have good skills.

Nothing in there aboot acting childish and flaming.

So until ace apalogizes? Muff I'm sorry for the way he acted. In no way did what he say represent the thoughs of DH, and that obviously we'll take measures to make sure ace doesn't flame you again.

It's not your responsability dude, chill. I really appreciate your concern though...

For anyone who is interested, after seeing the responses I've recieved across all the forums I post on, I'm working on reopening the site... Watch this space...

Thanks for the backup MarD.

Oh and muff I thought of something else! I'm not quite sure how you'd go about doing it but if you made it so there w're some REALLY cool, beneficial features that people would get when they donate *priority downloading, whatever, use your imagination*

I've thought about it, but I'm not sure how I would make that work...

I'll see what I can do, but at the mo I'm just interested in trying to sort out some stability. If I can find a solution, I will re-open.

Why didnt you just put the ads on the home page and say you cannot access any files until you click an ad 10 times or something? wouldnt that help? and change all the files to .rar that takes up 5% less space?

Oh well R.I.P. halomaps.co.uk that was the best halomaps site there ever was...

This is just outstanding! With the response here, at Halo Impulse and the Gearbox forums, I have just been overwhelmed by the amount of you who want the site to re-open...

Watch this space... but please, WHEN I re-open (not 'if'), I am going to need all the support I can get! I think I might be on to something here...

The reason I have not placed a comment about clicking through on ads is because it's against the rules. If it is discovered that I'm asking people to click, I will lose anything that my ads have already picked up... Does no one read the small print?

Be patient...

Thing is, PayPal sucks! They won't let me take any money out of my account, so I have to resort to asking people to send cheques or postal orders, which no one is going to do...

I've not placed anything on my welcome page about the situation mainly because I'm not too good with explaining my situation... The words seem to get in the way, if you know what I mean... If anyone wants to have a go at writing something up, I'd have a look and, if it's any good, I'd use it...

Now, I'm doing the rounds again and informing everyone that the site IS going to reopen, but I'm going to need the help I didn't recieve first time around. It's not hard to support with a couple of clicks every time you visit, but I need people to do it... please.

As far as sharing bandwidth is concerned, it has been metioned on the Gearbox Forums, but to no avail... The truth of the matter is that the Halo CE community is selfish. When things picked up for me a while back, I approached certain other sites about joining forces and woring together... There was no interest.

With that in mind, I'm on my own. I don't mind, but please believe me when I tell you that I've explored a lot of options! Basically, I have to be able to run the whole show myself... Even last night I posted on Gearbox that I would like to team up with a couple of others to create the mother of all CE sites...

How many responses do you think I've recieved? A big fat Zero!

The first thing I need to know is how to stop people going to any page other that my main welcome screen when they visit my site. I'm forever chasing down leechers and probably a better solution would be to place some kind ofbarrier in place to stop the unauthorised downloads, which are the main cause of my troubles.

I think a combination of the two together would really make a difference. That and people clicking through on ads would do so much for the site, but I'm not clued up enough to be able to put something like that in place. There is another site that requires you to place a random code (that is provided) before you can download anything...
