Really screws with the plot of Halo.
In the Halo: First Strike (FS) book, there is a time anomaly that allows the MC to rescue some Spartans.
The Pillar of Autumn (POA) in the Book Halo: The Flood gets to Halo on Sept. 19, 2552. But the end of Halo: FS the date is Sept. 13. 2552. A full 6 days before the POA arrives at Halo. So it is possible that the MC could use the faster Covenant engines that was put into the Earth ship to go to Halo 04 before the POA actually arrives. Maybe before the Covenant actually arrive. Is this the same Halo that Bungie has mentioned MC going to.

But the time anomaly cause inconsistinces.
Halo: The Flood - Page 28 - Sept. 19, 2552 - A Elite by the name of Isna 'Nosolee boarded the POA as a Ossoona, a spy. Ossoona's was used for multiple reasons but one was to find the coordinates of Earth. So at this time They still didn't know Earth's location.
Halo: FS - Sept. 13, 2552 - MC with help of the Spartans destroyed the Covenant invasion fleet, getting prepared to invade Earth. Which shows that the Covenant knew the location of Earth prior to Sept. 13, 2552. So what was Isna 'Nossolee doing?

Maybe Isna 'Nossolee was not aware that the co-ordiantes for earth had been found. And i agree that the time anomoly is rather strange, to say the least. It significantly complicates things.

Whoa...trippy stuff.

IDK if the game will be really closely related to the books. Remember in the books that the Human warships all had MAC's (Magnetic Accelerator Cannons)? In the opening cutscene before Pillar of Autumn starts, it shows the POA from space...NO MAC TO BE FOUND.

From memory the artifact the SPARTANS recovered from Reach (after John117 returned from Halo) affected time while they were travelling in slipspace...

Whoa.
I'll put it bluntly: I don't know.
That really complicates the plot. I just looked at my First Strike book, and all the "September 13, 2552" dates read "Revised" after them. Could this mean anything?

i think whe the book said'time anomily' it meant that something screwed with the clock in there computers, i dont actully think time travel is a big part of halo. we'll just have to wait for halo 2

XBL: FTG Spartan
But you were dead a thousand times. Hopeless encounters successfully won. A man long dead, grafted to machines your builders did not understand. You follow the path, fitting in to an infinite pattern.
Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild.
Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.
I know who you are.
You are Destiny.

but cortana says that the covenant have disabled the MAC and that was our last defensive option. so the disabling of the MAC is the reason they abandoned the POA, plus how do we know what an MAC looks like? it could be on the other side of the ship

just pointin it out

The time anomaly does take place it is more that a computer glitch.
The Spartans trapped themselves in that dead end cave on the 7 or 8th of Sept. There in no way that they lived in that cave until the 24 of Sept. to be rescued by the MC. Especially with a whole Covenant Army digging for them.
Oh and it said revised date because they had to revise the date from what they originally thought it was.

And I'm not getting mad :)

The guns on the front of the POA are the 50mm point-defense turrets for the Seraph fighters. I thought it might be the thing under the ship, buts its not a gun.

I would expect the MAC to be a very long and very wide cannon, as the rounds it shoots are HUGE.

True, the MAC system was disabled, but that doesn't mean the gun fell off does it? Also, according to the book (heres another difference), they were unable to fire the MAC even before they entered the Threshold/Halo system. So how could it have been disabled by the anti-matter charge if they couldn't "fire the system" originally?

Heres my theory on this time anomaly thing starts off rather early in book... when Cortana is evesdropping on the Covenant fleet orbting Reach while she is on the Accending Justice.
About the crystal warping time I also have theory on that as well... very indepth much like my last one very hard to understand if you haven't read the books. It might repeat some of what I said in my previous posts but here it is. *takes deep breath*

*SPOILER WARNING*
p.193- This quote is when Cortana had been accessing the "Accendent Justice" communications that were coming from a Reach's orbit and were aprox. 8 hours old. She did this while she waited at the edge of the system to pick up the MC from Reach. so here it is... "uncovering the fragment of divinity" and "illuminating the shard of the gods to exist the perfect moment that vanishes in a blink of an eye but lasts forever" (the ands are to split up subjects). so we know that the Covenant were digging into a certain part of Reach do find the crystal that the Spartans are reunited by. So I assume they are talking about digging up the artifact on Reach that is “Divine” which is either translates to “the fragment of beauty” or a “fragment from god”... in this situation it can go either way but I'm leaning towards divinity meaning god because the Covenant are so religion based. Which can also mean the fragment is from a god or even for a god
Anyway back on topic "Illuminating the shards of the gods..." that explains the "Fragment of Divinity" )Divinity meaning The Gods). Now a few paragraphs later they refer to "the Holy Light" which may very well be the 'now-illuminated fragment of divinity' When the crystal was activated when the Spartans first approach it, it becomes very bright blinding to look straight at (8 hour delay on com link remember).
Now as for "...to exist the perfect moment that vanishes in a blink of an eye but lasts forever" It made me think of how when the Spartans eventually all met up in the big underground temple beside the artifact how moments later how thousands of Covenant soldiers 'appeared' in the gigantic room. Now maybe the whoever holds the artifact can manipulate time itself, in this case the Covenant have control of it. Keeping in mind this is before the Spartans walk upon it. For instance "the perfect moment" would be the thousands of Covenant troops waiting for the Spartans to walk in on them and the crystal… so based on this theory when the crystal is triggered it manipulates time (slows down, rewinds, freezes, fast forwards etc.). In this case the cause is freezing everything around it in place, for the Covenant their “perfect moment” would be the thousands of them in wait on the balconies in the giant room. Continuing on "... Vanishes in a blink of an eye but lasts forever" IMO when the crystal is triggered it lasts only for a second but manipulates time (again in this case freezing) everything around it and holds that place and picture in time forever. Now just as it froze time so quickly it can trigger time back in motion just as fast. Explaining the sudden ‘appearance’ of the thousands of troops that the Master Chief and the rest of the Spartans had failed to notice before because they were so 'still' but really the crystal itself had frozen them inplace… “the perfect moment”. This would also explain the sudden 'flicker' in his motion sensor (interference from the trigger of the crystal perhaps). This would explain the time displacement when Dr. Hasley was in the bombed out cave. For when she herself was in control of the artifact, her example of her “perfect moment” was being rescued by John so she triggered the artifact (probably not knowing it herself) and had manipulated time (now in this case it was slowing down time) in the Spartans favour by buying them enough time in the case for the Master Chief to reach them.

That’s one of my main theories of that particular event. Any thoughts?

It's because of the Spartans' Forerunner underpants. The humans stole the technology for their armour (and adapted it) from the Covenant, and the Covenant get all their technology from the Forerunner. Everybody knows that armour based on ancient god-like alien races gives the wearer the ability to travel through time. :)

The "Time Anomaly" was caused by the freaky forerunner artifact right? So now that the crazy marine blew it to bitties it can't really screw with time, now can it?
Unless, of course, the covenant find a way to re-create it from the shards of the original.

It's just a discrepancy.
I love how people are trying to say "Halo 2 takes place before Halo!!!! Look at the dates!!!".
Cortana has been trying to dial in the chronometers ever since their jumps started messing with time. Her inability to get them set correctly comes from the glitches that have started popping up since she got off Halo.

Does the crystal mess with time? Yes.
Does Halo2 take place before Halo? No.
Do we have to re-live Halo? No.

Does the crystal mess with time? Yes.
Does Halo2 take place before Halo? Maybe.
Do we have to re-live Halo? No.

That is more like it. The dates in the book are not set by Cortana they are set by the Nylund so you know when a event is happening.
The MC arrives on Reach on the 7th or 8th of Sept. The book ends on Sept. 13. If the time anomaly only effected Reach, then how can the book end on the 13th once they get away from Reach and the crystal is destroyed.
Sayings Cortana is wrong is not a suffient answer. Since they could have easily gotten the aprox. date from the pirates in the asteroid field.
But like I pointed out before, Halo 2 might not happen directly after the story of Halo:FS. I was just hoping that a Bungie employee might see this topic and offer some insight.
