Poll: Would you rather chuck a grenade or double fist some SMG's?  [closed]
lob grenades (Only need 1 gun to do the job of 2):  56%
(10 Votes)
dual wield (get caught with pants down reloading):  44%
(8 Votes)
Total Votes: 18

If you've seen any of the videos out there that show the MC dual wielding, for instance a needler and a SMG, then you may notice that it takes him forever to reload his primary (right handed) weapon. It takes a solid 3 seconds to reload that weapon as opposed to the single second when only holding one weapon. This handicap in addition to the inability to throw grenades is going to make me more hesitant to pick up every gun I see. Will you think twice about it? Are there any other disadvantages that you can see with dual wielding.

(I'm aware that Bungie probably isn't through perfecting the animations and balances with dual wielding.)

A plasma pistol and a SMG could beat chucking grenades any day though. Jus charge the shot up, blast em, and Kill them with the SMG.

you should add a third option to your poll. "It depends on the situation."

If I did that, everyone would pick that option. It's a "would you rather" poll.

considering that you can drop your 2nd gun to throw a grenade instantly, im going with the dual weild if i can dual weild until i want to throw a grenade.

Not instantly, to drop your seconed weapon you have to Melee then you chuck a grenade. (if you were playing against a good player you would be dead before you could chuck the grenade.)

This is real simple if you don't want like the dual weilding don't pick up two guns at once. I know it was a rather question but come on.

I would go with dual wielding, because my controlls are set up as "boxer" making throwing grenades quite difficult.

I've been playing a LOT lately... and I can honestly say I don't notice any reload "penalty" while dual wielding. I suppose it's possible but I haven't really noticed it. I am curious now and will ask the designers if there's an intentional delay in reloading for the sake of balancing or not.

Dual Wielding is a blast. Literally. It really adds a new layer of strategy to the game. To dual or not to dual, that is the question. Over the course of a given game my weaponry changes numerous times depending on the situation. If I'm out of grenades, naturally I'll dual wield whenever possible (why not?) Sometimes I'm dual wielding and I'll drop a gun, lob a few grenades into a nearby tunnel, then return to dual wielding again. Personally I really like the extra depth of always thinking about which guns I have, which guns I can grab and which combination is best for the current situation. Keep in mind this "analysis" happens in about 1 second while dodging death. It becomes very natural to move between single and dual wielding using a variety of weapons over the course of a match.

I'm aware you have a choice. I never said I didn't like dual wielding. And I know how to not pick up two guns, but thanks for the advice. Get a grip.

Definitely dual-wielding. Remember that at any point in time, you can switch weapons. To put it in the words of Bungie, "If you will like to stop dual-wielding at any time, press the Y button to switch weapon or hit the melee attack button B to throw your [secondary] weapon down". On top of that, two civilians who snuck into the E3 demo said that the grenades are way more bouncy. One of them said "grenade masters, prepare to re-learn everything you know about throwing grenades". Dual wielding is so damn cool. You'd be a fool to not dual wield ; )

Hey SketchFactor, what happens when you are short on, let's say, SMG bullets and you walk over another SMG? I mean, does it convert into ammo for your already equipped SMG or does it just come up as a dual wielding option?

yah, yah, but I mean, he likes to play, and I was asking if it would have been cooler to play when it was like 100% complete, and not in the middle of developement.

Thanks for dropping in my thread. I appreciate some feedback from someone who has actually played the game. You said there was no penalty for reloading while dual wielding (or at least that you didn't notice one). I know i've seen multiplayer videos though that definitely show the SMG reloading quite a bit slower while dual wielding. Maybe this has be altered. I sure don't know. Seems like that would be a resonable balance though. Thanks again.
