I recently started playing Halo 2 after a long absence from the game, and I gotta tell you, it's better than Halo 3. First off, the thrills of the campaign, the music, the weapons, are still awesome to behold. Sure Halo 3 has it's charms (improved multi-player, graphics enhancements, actual explanation for how the flood can easily best the covenant's finest warriors), And sure Halo 1 will always be the best of the trilogy, But Halo 2, as a middle of a trilogy game, is One of the greatest games ever made (cutscenes aside). Many people complained about the ending, not me, it's the middle of a trilogy, cliffhangers are kindof expected. No, the storyline thrilled me from beginning to end, no other game, not even the first Halo game, has made me whoop at every plot twist, every nuance, and when it was all over, I was stoked for Halo 3, brilliant marketing by Bungie. It is august 22nd, 2008 as I write these words, and there are only 5,000 people i've seen that play it with any regularity anymore, sure there are a few glitches in the online gameplay, but, as another topic proposes (keep in mind that this topic is geared for a different purpose), we should petition Bungie, simply to release at least a patch to make , nay, Mold, the ultimate Halo experience. I also miss the Clan aspect of the game, and was saddened that you couldn't do the same for Halo 3 (clans now are just loosely organized).
Enough about that, let's get to the real focus of this topic: I formally challenge all of you, to go out and locate a Halo 2 game disc, they're cheap now, put into your Xbox, and play through the campaign on every difficulty, Start a clan, play on every playlist, make a single day every week a Halo 2 day.
Now I know some of you are going to say that it's far too late for this, that a better experience has been found, I say that, if great movies shall never be unwatched, than the greatest games shall remain played, and until Halo 1 gets online multi-player, this will have to do as the last of the xbox's great hits before the 360.
I also recommend that you play with the volume as loud as possible so you can hear the music, feel the battles, and laugh hysterically as the grunts get their last laugh in before their uglification. Please, this is all i'm asking.
