I am "smart" if I am in the GT program. It is not that I never read, but I will only do it when I am forced to. Sometimes...I will read a book.

Having been in such types of programs before - that is not true. Such programs give you opportunities, but are no better than not being in such programs if you don't take advantage of it. While I have known some really incredibly successful people who were in those programs, I also know some of the biggest failures who were also in those programs.

It isn't about how smart you are - it is how you use the talents you have and the opportunities that come your way that counts. Being smart means nothing by itself unless you can communicate for example. Books are a great way to build verbal skills necessary for communication.

Yeah, I was also in stuff like that, though I'm the example of "tons of talent, no real drive." Well, to argue this further: it's actually all about how happy you are.

Education, money, and success are shown to have little effect on happiness after basic needs are met.

I am currently reading "The Art of Happiness" by the Dalai Lama, and "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, simultaneously.

Really a great way to distort your perspective of the world. Highly recommended.

Good vocab shows that you take time with your post and also it does not make you look too much of a crazy forum user, but a wise guy who's to be respected.

they put it through a checker first, then spellcheck. afterwards they go to a college and ask an english major.

This thread has prompted me to go out to the trunk of my car. Inside I keep almost all of the textbooks from the last 2 years of college, and the 3 years of technical school before that. (Yes I decided I didn't want to finish technical school)

Anyhow, I found the "Prentice Hall Reference Guide to Grammar and Usage" Fourth Edition.
It shall now remain at my desk, until the day the sun explodes.

Because they want people to understand them. It'd be a little odd for a moderator to use improper grammer. On the old web site, we used to complain about improper grammer and spelling usage. Here's something I discovered though:

It's amazing but true. We can all read this even with the letters
scrambled as long as the first and last letters of a word are not
scrambled:
I cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg.
The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid. Aoccdrnig to rscheearch form
Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a
wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be
in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed
it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey
lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh? Yaeh and I
awlyas thought slpeling was ipmorantt.

That actually is pretty amazing. Of course it still just looks stupid.

He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man.

That is just amazing how you can still read it at the same speed as if it was spelled correctly. I didn't have to stop once to try and scramble a word. But anyways it would be easier to read for others; and if the mods didn't spell stuff right and use correct grammar, then we would be left with about ten people on the forums that could succesfully write out and make sense of a sentence. Alot of people must think its cool to spell things wrong on purpose, because unless you were mentally retarded you couldn't spell that bad if you tried.
