My dad says he's going to buy me the full version of Halo: Combat Evolved (For the PC) on Septmber 1st. Until then, I can play the free trial (you know, where you can play Blood Gulch and only 1 campaign level), and I went to this screen in multiplayer which lets you join or create a party. Just then I saw an potion on that screen that I can't choose called 'Edit Gametypes'. How do you unlock that option Besides downloading Halo Custom Edition

You don't need to download Custom Edition to edit your gametypes. You can either wait till the full game or you can get a app at halomods. (Didn't link because site is down)

I'll download Custom Edition anyways, but thanks for the tip!

i remember trial...and i recommend getting the real game soon. you really are limited with trial, id say just wait till you have the full game.

trial is horrible in comparison.

There's a trick to edit gametypes in Halo Trial, which is not illegal and doesn't require any programs, just a filename change. PM me if you want details.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

You need a Halo PC cd-key to use Halo Custom Edition.

Start Halo Trial
Host a game, and when you are at choose gametype, click on Capture the Flag to highlight it, but do not click continue or OK or whatever is the go next button.

Alt tab out of the game, and open up my documents\my games\halo trial\saved\playlists\default_playlists

Open up 32, which is normal CTF, the one you have selected. Now make a backup of it by renaming the blam file to something else or moving it elsewhere.

This part takes a bit of trial and error. I'm sure there's a list somewhere, and I made one myself a while ago but lost it. Anyway, in the other numbered folders, 00-37 are additional blam files which are other gametypes. Basically, take the blam from the gametype you want, and put it inside 32. This means Halo Trial will think that the new blam.lst is CTF, and will load it without complaints.

Go back into halo trial and play.

Note that you can only change blams when you have CTF selected, or else Halo Trial won't allow you to select CTF. This means you have to do this every time you host. Additionally, if you know a bit of hex editing, you can modify the blam files to create your own custom gametypes or get them from someone who has the full game and make custom gametypes.

It seems there are now programs out there that do this for you...maybe just get one of those I suppose. I left the halo trial modding scene a long time ago.
