Hey Bungie, I think it'd be great for us die hard Bungie fans to relive some of the games that got you guys going. I say you make the Marathon games all on one disk and put it on XBOX. Please dudes. We beg to the all sweet Bungie guys.

Listen to this man, He has a cool idea. And by cool I mean do it or I rip the living -blam!- out of you.

Marathon is genius and oh god as a demo disc or bonus it'd be even better. Bungie would be beyond gods. I froth from the very thought of this! Here my call Bungie!

Another sweet idea. You know how Halo was gona be an RTS type game. Make a Halo RTS type game! It'd be awsome dude! You could take direct control of your units and it'd just be awsome! But you still HAVE to make Marathon.

Aside from finally releasing Halo 2, puttin' Marathon on the Xbox would be one of the greatest things Bungie could ever possibly do!!

The Marathon series rocks and just think how cool it would be if Bungie gave it a multiplayer mode.

Listen up Bungie, with so many of us die hard fans out there, you can't possibly go wrong with this one.

I've never played marathon but if bungie put it on x box, I would buy it. There seems to be alot of similarities between it and halo and that really interests me. and one more thing. rotateman or whatever the hell his name is is really starting to piss me off because all I ever see in his posts are END THIS TOPIC NOW MAKE THIS DIE DON'T POST ANY MORE(except for this one)END IT NOW. i'm sorry that had nothing to do with this but it was really pissing me off.

Trust me when I say that there are a lot of similarities between the two. The comparisons are almost endless.

Id Software let you unlock the original Wolfenstein 3D game after you beat Return to Castle Wolfenstein on xbox. It could work for Bungie. Pack Marathon and Marathon 2 in there as an unlockable.

  • 04.20.2004 8:59 PM PDT

Ding Ding!

I don't know if I would like it as an unlockable, but I would like to see Marathon on the Xbox in some form, upgraded or not. I was playing Marathon 2 eariler today, and it's still a great game, after all these years.

Good idea. I've never owned or played Marathon, I was introduced to Bungie through Halo. I'd love to see Marathon on XBox or XBox Next.

Upgraded or not marathon on Xbox would rule. I would take direct ports of the old ones. I have played them but would love to own them.

  • 04.20.2004 10:10 PM PDT

bah

Or just port them to PC. It'll be several years (like 7 maybe) before I can afford to buy a MAC just for playing Marathon. Maybe Halo 2 PC could have a plugin system like Ambrosia's EV Nova. You guys know them right? I have the EV Override conversion and it's nice to get the backstory (or whatever you call it). If someone would take thier time to convert Marathon to PC via Halo 2 PC or even Halo PC (if it has the proper code built in), I'll buy it.

If you want a quick and easy way to play the original marathon on your pc, go here and download the M1A1 for SDLv1.5 file. I believe it contains all you need to get your marathon game on for free on your pc. I doubt it uses the newest version of aleph for pc, but it's easy to setup. Just download that one file, unzip it, and double click on the marathon logo.

If you have the marathon 2 or infinitly files then you should go over here and download the newest version of aleph for whatever platform you're runnin'. Also if you have the marathon 2 files for pc, don't forget to take the extentions off the end of the file.

Aleph was the first thing I downloaded and setup when I switched over to the (not so evil) world of windows.

Sweet! Now I can get the story behind the story behind the story of Halo! Why isn't the link to this file on the front page? I had assumed that there was no way to play Marathon on PC. Guess I should have Googled it.

Stosh I think you line up right behind the guys from Bungie for Godhood. I've been wanting to give Marathon a go since I started hearing about it after reading posts here, but don't have Mac. You rule!

  • 04.21.2004 7:38 AM PDT

I wouldn't think that Marathon on Xbox would be a good idea, to tell the truth. First of all, like Stosh pointed out, A1 allows PC users to play Marathon (and don't forget its more important rationale; that is to OpenGL the graphics of Marathon on both platforms), so there's no real need for it. Also, I'd rather that Bungie worked on a new game, rather than waste time updating its old ones, especially since that is being done already by such groups as Aleph One, and ProjectMagma for the Myth series. Finally, I don't think that updating the graphics of Marathon would do any favours. The graphics contributed a lot to the feel of the game, and I also particularly like nice sprites, for some reason. I think it has something to do with a comparison of the prettiness of Myth I and II, which used sprites, and Myth III, made by Mumbo Jumbo (an old subsidiary of Take 2), which used 3D models for its characters. In my opinion, Myth II's sprites are a lot nicer-looking than the models in Myth III.

So yeah, no old-school Bungie games on Xbox. Except maybe Gnop! Pump those graphics up a bit, and there's a game and a half. ;)

For those of you who really love Marathon...I (so far) have remade from scratch two of the original Marathon soundtrack songs. You can pick them up at http://www.eigenhat.com/marathon

I wish bungie would release all the marathon game files for everyone though...although I guess they have to run out of mac action sacks first.

Thanks Stosh.

If you ever do get a Mac, there's the Mac Action Sack, which is a compilation of Bungie's most old-schoolest games right up to Marathon Infinity. It's at the Bungie Store (link on Nav Bar).

Seriously, get a Mac. You can get an old G3 iMac on the cheap off eBay that'll play all Bungie games tolerably (I even had Oni running on my old one. Painful, to say the least). Like under US$200! :)

Or just spend 10 dollars on the mac action sack and use the marathon files with aleph on your pc, heh. I think you have to use a res editor to get rid something to use the mac marathon files on your pc - Shishka probably knows what I'm talking about here...I can't quite remember.

Edit: oops, you said the older games. Like the ones before marathon, my bad.

Um, not being one to have played marathon I wouldn't know, but it would be a good market strategy to release a wide spread favorite from the PC to the console audience. Maybe include LIVE play for a bigger impact?
