We don't know how many Halo rings there are, but we do know there are at least for (the ring in Halo one was Installation 04).

In a different thread, someone figured out how may Halos it would take to wipe the Milky Way Galaxy clean of sentient life, since 343 GS tells us it has an effective radius of 25,000 light years. I don't remeber what they figured out, though, and I can't find the thread....

i think there are atleast 343 rings, because guilty spark wouldnt be named 343 guilty spark unless he was assigned to the 343th ring, thats what i think

well their damage 'radius' is 25,000 lightyears (im pretty sure in Flood they said its about that?). Our galaxy has the diameter of 100,000 lightyears. So if they were placed to take out the ENTIRE galaxy, their would need to be at LEAST twenty Halo ringworlds.

Missed a few above posts...

But basically, it would take about 20 to take out our galaxy.

Cheers,
~Kain

Does the game say that it will wipe the GALAXY of sentient life, or the UNIVERSE?

I don't recall....

Im pretty sure the monitor says that it will destroy the floods food in the galaxy.

But go see for yourself I might be wrong.

"The way of the warrior is the path of shadow. The gift of the warrior is to percieve that which cannot be seen. The spirit of the warrior is to strike in a single moment. The destiny of the warrior is balance in all things. And when balance is lost... all that is left is the reckoning."

I dont think there are that many Halos in existence because they would only need to have enough to eliminate them in the Covenant/Forerunner controlled space which is the Orion arm of the Milky Way galaxy. They'd probably make more if tehy needed. Or they might just keep them near other research institutions to halt the outbreak then and there. You never know.

Dimensions of the Milky Way Galaxy:
100,000 ly diameter
300 ly thickness
16,000 ly bulge at the galactic center

Placement of Halos:
1 at the galactic center for the bulge
4 on the x-axis 25,000 ly from the galactic center
8 on the x-axis near the edged of the galaxy

Covenant/Forerunner?
Look at the names. The Forerunners where a long time before the Covenant. Forerunner artifacts are considered sacred relics.
