So exactly what are you saying that to be a veteran you have to have been posting on here since 2001?

Not that i can see it matters that much wether you're a veteran or not!?

As far as I'm aware, members are classed as veterans based on the quality of their posts. Even some members that have been here a matter of months have been elevated to such status. Essentially, you have to know what you're talking about and behave responsibly.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Yeah, Psyched, but you also have to have been around for a while (not 2001, but at least pre-hotness). If your are intelligent poster and you haven't been around since before the new hotness then....you're an intelligent poster. And most likely fairly well known.

Sorry, am I missing something? What is veteran status? I haven't been around lately because I got driven away by downloadable content threads. Can someone explain this to me please?

i think he mean users calling other users veterans. Unless i am missing something...

The join dates can be misleading as to how "Ol' Skoo" you are. Say there is a person who joined the day Halo came out. And another person who joined maybe a week ago.

The one who joined the forums a few years back when Halo came out, it could have been their first time on an internet forum and their knowledge of Bungie and their games is limited to Halo. They could be just barely passing remedial 6th grade english classes with a D.

The Person who joined maybe a week ago, could have been playing Bungie games since the first Marathon, maybe even Pathways, been involved in forum discussions across the internet discussing Bungie and their games for the past 10-11 years. This person could be a professor of english.

If you are just going by the join dates you are going to spend alot of your energy on vastly misplaced respect.

Well as a rough guide, join date can be useful. If a 2001 / 02er tells you one thing, and an 05er tells you another, you'd be best placing your bets on the older guys.

But other than that, yes it is kind of élitist; and yeah, I'm probably guilty of paying too much respect to my fellow older-schooled people than new lads of equal intelligence and love for Bungie.

There really is no such thing as veteran status. It is nothing more than general rapour(reputation)

I'm detecting a subtle hint here.

Being a "Veteran" is just a term of respect for when people realize that you know how3 to post, and know the subject matter. Usually it's associated with old-school Bungie players, who know almost every facet of Bungie. But it has nothing to do with the "Member Since:" date. Someone who has only been here ten minutes, who knows Bungie from Gnop to Halo 2 will likely be acknowledged as a "Veteran".

It's about what you post, not how old you are.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Some of you are confused about the definiton of a veteran. Good old dictionary.com says

"A person who is long experienced or practiced in an activity or capacity"

So I'd assume to be a veteran you'd have to be a 2001/2002er but just because you are a veteran, that doesn't make you better than the next guy. A new member could be a more intelligent poster than a veteran, in theory.

I think being a veteran would mean that you won't post useless crap, or that you remember "Truth and Reconcileation" (not the level from Halo).

That isn't neccisarily true, because I've been a member since before the New Hotness, back when there was the 7&R, but I still don't consider myself a veteran. Other than playing the Marathon games a couple times on my friend's mac (I still had a 486 PC back then), Halo: CE was the first Bungie game I played.

Join Date means nothing. Labels such as "veteran" mean nothing. Post quantity means nothing.

Post quality means everything. And it always will, as long as I'm in charge around here.

And that, as they say, is that.
