Oh my god. You are proposing psychological warfare against the enemy. Get inside their heads, and use their own poor excuses for attention spans to destroy them!

I think we just had a moment.

Not destroy them....just....keep them in the backyard, with that mean dog. But really, this would allow the Ninja's to remain hidden more of the time which is what they should be doing. As it is right now, they are Ninja, running around on fire. Which is still cool, but lacks the fierceness of a non-enflamed one :D

Ok, after reading numerous posts (most awful) I have seen a very common trend. Most of them are created by (going to say people..when I really mean pre-teens >> ) people that register just to post that 1 offensive/stupid/spamming/uninformational post that no one on any of the forums likes and/or will not respond to in a nice way. To solve this, why not require people to wait a week or some amount of time after registering before they can post? I've seen this work in other games and other forums.....and I am sure it would reduce the garbage that surfaces each day. Of course, after a search feature is added, so people don't need to wait a week to (-he's gonna say it...uh oh-) lookup the answer by themselves. Just a thought for an idea that would be easy to make work :)

Yes, hmmm. Maybe there should also be an inactive account deletion?

I agree, I've seen this work on several sites/forums/boards before.
Maybe have users rated according to the numbers of posts and according to this the users have more rights.
Take for example a completely new user.
He is allowed to post say 10 posts a day and after he has posted say 30 he is upgraded and can post more, and more etc. etc.
(Though I would probably mind that happening because I'm a new user myself, but it's an idea)

I don't know about that, some people post pretty rarely, but will make them good. Of course, it could also free up alot of space.....like what...50k accounts or something? I haven't checked, and probably only 5k are actually worthy of keeping lol....this could be a good idea or a bad one, depends on the inactive period I suppose.

Another idea popped into my mind last night, along with the waiting period before you can post, there could be a rating system implemented. Suppose there is a person, who waits out the waiting period...posts and continues to post...and it's all garbage. Now, the members can vote on a scale of 1-10 let's say....or Garbage-Fine-Keep This Forever scale :P. So, 'garbage' posters will only be allowed to post so frequently, once a day or something? While well respected members who post intelligent, funny, worth posting posts....will be able to post to thier heart content.

I know, it would require alot of tweaking, but this would be a way for the Members to regulate the forums (this would be put in -after- the Time to Wait idea....after the spammers and trashers are thinned).

I think the Gamespot forums have a system like that in effect. Can't recall only posted there like twice.

It is a great system, makes even the smartly challenged think before they post, because hey, they have to count their ammo.

Amazeing, now that I think about it, the Gamespot forums are some of the cleanest forums of its size I have ever visited.

EDIT: This was in reply to Eternalslayer.

Eh, that would kinda work, and is kinda similar to what I just posted. But basing user rights based on post count would be trouble, might work but I think it would be better for a Voting system. The reasoning behind this is, I see alot of posters that continue to post 'garbage' (I shall refer to all types of trash filled posts as 'garbage' makes it easy lol). So they would be granted more rights because they post excessive amounts of garbage, but with the Vote system...they would be severely limited.

Now, another beauty with the Vote system is that you could still make garbage posts (someone pisses you off...you happen to go off on them a little) and get a poor rating for the -one- post. But as long as your other posts make up for it, you'll never notice the effect.

The danger of the vote system is that, a group of the people we are trying to motivate forward in the right direction, could easily work together on a person they do not agree with and destoy his enjoyment of the forums in a very real way.

Hmm, that's very true. I suspect there would be people that would create an account....wait the restricted time to post...then vote on someone they don't like. Also, that person would probably get his friends to do it too......hmm... Well, there could be a vote restriction as well I think. Before people are allowed to vote, they must have a set amount of 'good' posts determined by feedback. This of course would not be put in till a bit later, after there is a good amount of voters established. But after it was put in, it would eliminate like...99% of attempt to sabotage someone. Because we all know, the only people who would try to do that are short-attention spanned, lazy bums lol. For them to do this, they would need to Create account, wait the restricted time to post, make at least several Good posts to get thier rating up, then they could vote....once per [authors] post. And then get all their friends to do it as well. I don't know about you but that doesn't seem very likely lol, and if it does eventually happen, the community (by now full of respected individuals) would alert mod that someone was unjustly silenced, or limited...or whatever.

*Edit* Just as a sidenote, many peoples enjoyment of the forums are being destroyed as it is by garbage. There will always be casualties, but at least with these new methods...we would have Medics to heal them :)

Also, so people don't vote with multiple accounts there would be an IP limitation. Easily enough done right? Not positive, but still...1 voter per computer to be safe.
