Hey guys,
It's not likely you've seen me before, since I haven't been on the forums in a few months because of the real life that beckons me, but I returned to check up on some of my old Chapters, or rather, "groups," as they officially go by now. I was surprised to find that only 1 out of 10 of them are still active.... at all. No one has posted since several months ago on the front pages, and there is nothing to do, even if there was activity...

Guys, I could be dreaming, but I think the 7th Column needs something that it's been lacking as of these past few months. Could it be the little things, like polls on the front page, articles that people cared to read, or the community that grew from the LAN-centered environment of the first Halo? I'm sure that this is partially due to the introduction of Xbox Live, but still, Bungie could adapt to this; perhaps link group stats to their pages, perhaps allow the creation of personalized group logos or group awards or trophies, etc.. I understand that they've put in an incredible amount of work at no cost to us fans, yet work can be squandered through inactivity, and there's been very little activity in improving the 7th. Column since the "new hotness" arrived, which, I shudder to say, has lately culminated into making "groups" nothing more than sporadic blogs about things even more pitiful than the information found in normal blogs.

What is my point? Not to whine about Bungie's oversight of certain needs in the community, nor to demand unreasonable services for that same community, but simply to point out to the Powers that Be that the 7th. Column is quickly becoming obsolete, and is in dire need of something else for the fans to truly find useful in the community that isn't simply found in the forums, or their friends blogs about LAN parties and favorite kills over Xbox Live.

So, are you suggesting that 10 of 10 forums on the old Seventh Column were active?

The 7th Column will never die as long as this avatar still shines. And join an active chapter if all the others died.

My group, the mob of angry peasants, is far more active than it used to be...Although I think we could use a couple new features. Like better clan and group intergration. And a freaking events feature would be nice...

The 7th column has always been dying. That's how things work.
From the moment you are are borne, you're dying. But i'm pretty sure that the Column will live for a very long time.

Straight. Words. My.

Add the missing and rearrange. Events and the Activometer are legendary; their return should be high priority.

Well if you leave a few groups don't expect activity to boom over there. Unless you were really anoying and everyone was glad to see you leave. I don't think that is the case. Some times you need to jumpstart things a little. But basic fact one member who leaves a group makes that group 1 member less active.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input, and no, I'm not blaming the columns for their inactivity because of people leaving, since I know we all have our reasons, mine originating from an academic perspective, yet I was hoping to generate some positive feedback on our options as a community to improve the situation. And Shiska, the 9 out of 10 chapters were no less active than yours. At best ;) I hate sidelines criticism, yet I thought this needed to be articulated, and I think that Bungie removed an important aspect of Chapters when they moved to the new system, an aspect that allowed them to act as community centers, instead of simply news bulletins. Again, thanks for your response.

I'd like to see more mods. If not more mods a little more stictness. The forums are oput of control. The Septagon and The Underground are not the only forums that matter and are not vistied nearly as much as Zanzibar or New Mombassa yet barely ever are Z and N.M 'cleaned'.

That seems to be rather irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

And is it just me, or are a lot of people just treating this thread as an opportunity to advertise their chapters? Keep it to the Classifieds and your sigs, people.

Anyway, sure, a lot of the old chapters are no longer active - I don't even visit most of the chapters I joined before the new hotness. However, I don't think the new features are at fault here. The vast majority of the now-dead chapters were well on their way to inactivity long before the New Hotness arrived. Most of the "new" chapters I'm a member have flourished.

As is usually the case whenever someone decides that the Column is "dying", it's never a global phenomenon. Some chapters endure, some come and go. This has been the case since its beginnings.

7th column hasn't changed that much. I think you're just toying with us.

You have to understand, other people get busy and things just stop operating like they used to.

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

People do get busy and even the old column when through times of no activity… But if anything, I’d rather have the old system back. Like mentioned before, the activity-o-meter, events, the database hack… good times!

Don't forget, you could also see who was online. I do somewhat like the way the threads are though. Except we'll never be able to just post subjects and have [NT] beside it.

He was stating a fact that pertianed to the thread, unlink you just posting an advertisement. See, a group advertisement basically consists of "join this group!" for so and so reasons. That's what you posted, yet you gave no reasons why we should. Stosh on the other hand, didn't say anything about "join my group". Therefore, you are wrong and we are right. Deal with it.
