RIP Logan ~B.B.

I think that if you get a kill with the Banshee, the guy on your team with the laser should get a "wingman assist" medal. Controlling the laser is that important to dominating with a Banshee. Although I know there are several pilots out there that will make me miss with my laser at least once, rarely more than that though.

And BTW, as the guy usually manning the laser, I don't really appreciate this thread. I don't want to have to be trying to shoot down ace pilots, I don't want them staying low and fast behind cover, and I really don't want everyone worrying about where the laser is.

Evade > Sprint > Other non-stupid Armour Abilities > Active Camo (Annoying) > Cumbody (Annoying, noob and just plain disgusting. I mean, you are covering yourself in... white stuff. Seriously. Who would want to do that? Now, I'm tolerant of your... preferences and all, but for a male hetero. such as myself, it's just plain repulsive.)

I used to be a Banshee Pro too, but now I am too occupied with using the Sniper.

Here's a little tip: When Missile Pods are coming for you, and if you are on Sandtrap or Valhalla, fly to either of the 2 towers at either side of the Map and hide behind them. It is an excellent tactic.

Another Tip for Valhalla. If you are flying low, and you are reaching the middle rock in Valhalla, fly all the way up, NOW. Chances are, there's a Bugger hiding behind that rock holding down the B button (RB for Default Config.) When passing any rock or bits of cover that might hide an opponent, safe is better than sorry.

For the Laser, Foman got it. Stay low. I lost track of the number of Banshee Pilots I have Lasered for flying near the damn sun on Sandtrap.

But for vehicles, hitting them off with the Fuel Rod Cannon, is very helpful. Just aim slightly ahead. Works wonders on Choppers. If you are flying around the Valhalla bases and you hear a Beeping sound, circle the Tower. Really. I had a Film Clip where I dodged 7 Missile Pods at the enemy base.

Holds to fame:
Ranked Kills: 48 (Bleargh)
Social Kills: 628 (Achieved like 500 of them in December ok? I hardly use it now)
Best Spree: 23 (I hate Turrets on Sandtrap!)
Best Multi Kill: Killtacular (Plasma Cannon'ed off 2 people at Valhalla Turret, then rammed down 3 people in one go. I spawn killed one of 'em. And one of them was the first one I killed at the Turret)

My Tips helped? Nice Thread by the way Foman! You deserve a Cookie.

I bet people must be pretty upset people don't read.

BTB is shifted to DLC BTB, in it are Standoff, Rat's Nest, Sandtrap, Santarp (Yes, I said Sandtarp), Valhalla, Last Resort and Avalanche. As well as the Heavy and Covenant Variants.

Looks like you're the "Go-to Man" for the Banshee.

There's some very useful techniques here that I will definitely take on board (mind the pun) the next time I use the Banshee.

Overall, I would like to thank you very much for providing this; terrific work!

I do have a couple of questions though.
When would you advise to use the 'left & right rolls' as opposed to the 'upwards roll'. Also; what are the best times to use the Fuel-rod gun? For example; if I'm chasing a group of players (at a distance), should I attack with:
The Fuel-rod or Plasma cannon? The try following it up with a splatter?

: )
Thanks!

For left- and right-rolls, I would advise using them all the time when flying around unless you need to be firing. These rolls provide extremely fast lateral movement while letting you maintain your speed. With a bit of controller manipulation, they also prevent the Banshee from moving in a straight line, making it more difficult for lasers and turrets to hit you.

For upwards "flips," I typically only use them when I need to reverse direction in a hurry, such as in the beginning of the "Laser Kill" video above. These flips are slower than left and right rolls, and actually cause the Banshee to "hover" in space, making it easier for turrets and lasers to spot you.

For the fuel rod cannon, you have to use your best judgments as to when it's best to lead off with a fuel rod shot. You may be too far away to be accurate with the cannon, or simply not have the shot, while the faster-moving plasma cannon can reach the enemy with more accuracy and speed. Of course, the fuel rod is much more devastating and has the added benefit of being able to flip over ground vehicles. Really, it depends on the situation.

Hope that helps!

The upward flip can be used for setting air position at times when you can't get a good hit on a person around you ( you only get a few seconds to get in a few shots, but never a chance to kill)

The movie where you go around harassing people left is a good way to weaken the enemy front too for your teammates. I use it from time to time when I have a team that is dedicated to working as a team (and generally uses their mics so you can plan on advances).

Now if only I could find myself some well dedicated people to party with who enjoy talking to one another. ( though, I'm not on Halo 3 majority of the time, stuck in a game where you can socialize with people or play) :P

Any tips for flying on Standoff Heavy? 'Cause that is one map that chews up banshee pilots and spits 'em out like they are nothing. FYI I'm number two on HaloCharts for Ranked Banshee Kills. That's how hard this map is. Here's my best game on Standoff Heavy. And try not to gawk at the gunner's numbers. This is about the banshee.

That is one insane kill tally! Looking at the carnage from that game, the other team was clearly severely outmatched. 219 kills to their 10? Crazy. I see that you guys also held off on capturing the flag for a third time so that you could rack up a -blam!-load of kills. How mean :-P

In normal circumstances, I really dislike the Banshee on Standoff Heavy, since my flying style tends to be about teammate support and strategic kills. For this reason, I get frustrated when my Banshee life is under a minute or two. And on a competitive game of Standoff Heavy, it almost always is, thanks to the Gauss Hogs and anti-vehicle weapons littering the map.

My usual method is to have teammates destroy enemy vehicles (or distract them) and control anti-vehicle weapons before I come out to support them. If they need help in controlling enemy vehicles or weapons, I'll sometimes come out and provide a distraction as well. But on Standoff Heavy, thanks to the ridiculous number of anti-vehicle weapons and vehicles, this is exceedingly difficult.

I do have one tip for Standoff Heavy, though -- hover below the cliffs on the opposite side of the map from the sun and satellite dishes when enemy Gauss Hogs or anti-vehicle weapons are in full force. You are completely out of their sight and minds when you do that, and you can pop out to make a quick kill on anybody who comes close and then duck down below the cliff again. On objective gametypes, such as the one you linked, high-quality kills are the ones that matter most, and so it is most helpful (in my opinion) to have the Banshee up and available for when it is most needed.

Yes, it's definitely BTB. I'm hoping that the new 8v8 playlist includes plenty of Banshee goodness, though!

Id hit you with my laser :D - And the thing about the banshee is whenever one is in the sky, we call out "Aim at the Banshee" Everyone on the team fires at it at once with AR or BR or SMG... It comes down so fast it's not even funny. :D We have a good team though.

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Best Regards,
The Tyrant

Ah, a nice read. It's good to see good grammar is still alive here.

Quick question for you. My biggest issue with the Banshee on Valhalla is avoiding the missile pod. You won't always know where to go upon hearing that drading beeping noise. Do you have any tips as to how to get out of a sticky situation?

Thanks for the good read :-)

This is a good example of my prior statement that the Banshee is the number one priority for the enemy team whenever it goes up. For this reason, follow the tips in my first posts to wait until the other team is distracted and/or you can pick off enemies in smaller batches. Also, with everybody firing at you in the Banshee, communicate with your teammates and let them know that the enemy is distracted -- they can then come in and pick off enemies as well. This is where teamwork really comes into play. :-P

Aerial Dogfights

As I stated in my original Banshee thread -- avoid "dogfights" unless they are absolutely unavoidable. Dogfights may seem cool, right until you get lasered or gunned out of the sky by someone on the ground who's been watching you orbit the battlefield in one place. Keep the Banshee low and fast at all times, and let your teammates handle the other air vehicles.

That said, in some cases, a dogfight is either too tempting to resist (see the easy Banshee kill in
Video 1
at 2:57-3:03) or completely unavoidable. In these cases, STAY LOW. For those of you familiar with real-life dogfighting techniques or combat flight simulators (where height gives the attacker the advantage), this may be counter-intuitive. Unlike those situations, however, the Banshee travels at equal speed in all directions when in full boost, and its maximum pitch angle is MUCH higher when flying upward than downward. If you are above an enemy, you may find that he or she is shooting you and you are unable to even establish an angle to reach him or her with your guns. Additionally, staying low is good due to how easy it is to lose an aerial target.

Video 8 shows a dogfight between a Banshee and a Hornet. Note that the dogfight is pretty much unavoidable due to the Hornet's position and the nature of the map. The Banshee uses left- and right-rolls to avoid the Hornet's gunfire until it can get directly underneath it. The Banshee then drops power to get low, falling all the way to the ground. Having lost sight of the Banshee, the Hornet panics and turns around, running out to the edge of the map. With the Hornet's back turned, the Banshee pops up and opens fire. The dogfight ends when the Hornet's pilot gives up and ejects.

Dogfights like these put the normally fast-and-low Banshee in a slow, high, and vulnerable position, making it not only an easy target, but a desirable one as the enemy air vehicle's teammates attempt to rescue their teammate. You should use teamwork and communication to ensure that your team controls anti-vehicle weapons before engaging in aerial battles.

Being Skyjacked

There are lots of rumored techniques out there to prevent skyjackings. The only truly reliable way is to stay fast. You cannot be skyjacked while in full boost. Techniques such as trying to "scrape" opponents off the Banshee using a wall, flips and rolls, or ejecting early from the Banshee are unlikely to work.

If you are skyjacked, the technique that I've found that works best is to jam the Banshee into a tight space. In Video 9, the Banshee misses a kill on Valhalla and gets skyjacked. The Banshee quickly jams itself into the downed Pelican, stopping the Banshee, slowing the skyjacker's escape, and allowing the Banshee to be immediately recaptured. Even this technique is not reliable if the enemy skyjacker is a skilled and experienced Banshee pilot, so as always, the best strategy is to avoid skyjackings entirely.

Conclusion

The Banshee is an awesome tool and my favorite weapon in the game. I encourage everybody out there to pick it up once in awhile and see what you can do after reading the techniques and strategies in this thread and the original Banshee tips and tricks thread. Please add to this thread with your own techniques, strategies, tips, and demonstrations.

Happy flying!

Stop bumping foman, lol! JkJk.

But seriously, good tips thanks!

I consider myself a master of the Banshee and am steadily working towards it being my number 1 tool of destruction in social. In fact, I just played a game of BTB where I got 49 Banshee kills (you may have been the one who locked my thread haha).

My advice would be, as you mentioned, to stay as low as possible. The most effective way to kill people with the banshee is when they do not expect it, so if you wait around a corner untill your team has told you where the enemies are / you can see them, you will benefit greatly.

Make fast attack runs. Do NOT fly around aimlessly looking for kills. Appear from seemingly out of nowhere, kill, then dissapear again.
