We just need to instigate more elitism and Mythic shenanigans.

A while back someone mentioned using the banshee on standoff heavy. I find it helpful to drop behind the cliffs to get out of sight of the lasers and missile pods, as well as all of the warthogs and other turrets. I find it best to be aggressive on it, because if you hang back they will probably laser or gauss hog you. The map is so small that you can often get to the laser to splatter them before they can get you. Also, the enemy rarely worries to much about the banshee, because they are more concerned with the warthogs, snipers, and lasers. I almost never get attacked with the missile pod, which is good because there isn't much to dodge behind. The thing I noticed that made the biggest difference is that the enemies with lasers never tried to skyjack me, allowing me to splatter them when normally I would have been stuck on the ground surrounded by multiple snipers and lasers.

Does anyone know what is up with the new page starting with nothing on it? I find it annoying, especially because most of the time I hit the shortcut to the last page, but it comes up saying something like "topic not found". Does anyone know why?

Here is a video of me coming at a guy in a way he wasn't expecting. I think he could see me at one point, but assumed that the trees between us would protect him.

this video demonstrates how using unexpected tactics will catch your enemy off guard.

Warthogs can't fly (unless you hit them with a gravity hammer).... ;-P

Sez you ;-) My friend Liz got killed by a flying pig.

Seriously, though, a skilled Warthog team combined with a skilled Banshee results in a nearly unstoppable force on Sandtrap or Valhalla.

Anyway, great writeup - I'm good with the hog (803 ranked wheelman, 395 social), ok with the banshee, your advice will definitely help me improve. It's interesting the difference. In a hog it's all about putting your gunner in the right place at the right time with a steady gun platform. Plus a lot of the same power weapon avoidance ideas. Banshee is much more of a hit and run approach. I rarely find a banshee pilot who can supplement my efforts, so the more people that read this the better!

Proud director of Black Plasma Studios. Check us out on Youtube!

Hey Forman I am going to be working on Vehicle Tactic videos soon and when I do my Banshee one you may be interested in posting it. Just thought I'd give you the heads up. Congratz!

IB. The bane of my existence.

I can never survive ever on Sandtrap.
On Valhalla though, I'm much better, if we have laser, as well as if the missile pod doesn't home through things and around the whole map without any warning.

Case in point:
One.
Two.
Three.

I try to keep the banshees on the map destroyed. I'm a laser-er, not a banshee-er. I've only been beasted by a banshee once, and it sucked!

ahh those maps are every laser-er's dream come true. It's like a nonstop rate of laser fire!

Nice write up! I agree with most of it. There is a way to easily eliminate the Banshee on Sandtrap before you can even get there, but i don't what to give other teams any tips. It works every time and is about as easy as pulling the trigger on your BR. I am right at 4500 kills in the Banshee. I get called many bad names in the post game lobby and a cheater quite often. I would say our team makes players quit in about 80% of our BTB games. I say our "team" because we also have highly skilled hog drivers/gunners, very skilled laser user and one heck of a missile podder. Yes, I said missile podder....... he's good! The other nice thing is we have backup roles in each of the important roles..... and those backups are at least 75% as good as the dedicated guy. I am opposite of the OP though. I rarely splatter unless I get into a situation where I am low and hot and heavy. I am VERY in tune with the fire power of the Banshee. I can easily kill a player from a distance in 2 seconds, so why waste the time of going down and splattering them. I would say you are more susceptible to missile pod when you are low anyway. If you fly low and accidentally close to a pod carrier, then you don't have much warning and the missile doesn't have that far to travel. If you stay up high you have plenty of warning and plenty of time before the missile actually gets to you. You can easily out run it until you find cover.

Hope to see you on the battle field!

In a heavies game it is important to have map control, whereas a regular game you need weapon control. There is no way to consistently keep all of the power weapons and vehicles in your teams hands, but if you have a substantial area of the map where you are safe when you stay low, you can use it to run away to and avoid enemies. I find that a lot of times players with missle pods and lasers are the easiest to splatter, because they always stand up on top of things to get a better view. Also, most players with lasers will try to shoot you rather than dodge your splatter or board you. Of course, it is practically impossible to splatter a missile pod user from the back.

On heavy maps it is extremely important to stay behind cover and move fast and low, but it is nearly impossible to avoid being killed by things like scorpions and gauss hogs, so let your team take them out before exposing yourself to fire.

In case you didn't know, the banshee has been removed from most one sided games on Avalanche. Except for territories, Avalanche is completely without banshees which is really quite sad. It is also a map that is a lot of fun to fly the banshee on, but with an enemy hornet and two enemy warthogs, as well as two rocket launchers and a laser, the sparse cover makes it rather difficult to survive at times. At least they left the banshee in territories which, IMO has the most potential for banshee fun.

Earlier today I got a vehicular manslaughter in addition to a killtacular splatter, thanks to my team holding down the laser very effectively. I managed to delay there assault on our territories for quite sometime.

here is the game
I will post a video when gamevee grab is back up or when the render to video option is finished.

Wow I just read the whole thing! I never really thought of it that way! I always thought of the Banshee as a wimpy vehicle and not a sleek and graceful killing machine! Most of that is because I'm not very good with it and I've only been killed BY it and not killed with it! I swear to never look at the Banshee as a dumb vehicle but as a major and useful vehicle in my Halo 3 arsenal!

It was a while ago, I had to wait for gamevee to put the grab feature back up.

Pretty basic information though I disagree with the avoiding death on Valhalla. If you're a decent pilot you can help your team with air support to ensure they get the laser not just hope they do. Missile pods are a joke anyways.

Oh, and despite what many people think you can be effective with a Banshee on Standoff Heavy. The thing is you have to go to the enemy's base and grab their banshee as you'll never make it across the map with yours. Then it's pretty easy to focus on the two laser guys and kill them quickly.

I find that it is usually not too difficult to get to the other side if you drop behind the cliff for most of the way, then boost to behind their base.It is absolutely impossible to go straight across the to their base without getting lasered, but with the cliff and some patience it can be done. Once you are there it isn't too difficult to nail the laserers and then move on to spawn splattering people.
