its just thata with the media coverage we had last year i hope to make bungie and halo 2 a "cool" thing. It sucks that when people watch stuff they see all these lonely nerds playing halo drssing like freaks. Remember that kid who wore a skirt last year? We should have big names at the fanfest too, like rappers and sports stars so that people think that the halo community is elite, something you want to be part of...
The thing that makes Fanfest cool is that it's Bungie meeting its fans and having a good time, because they want to meet gamers with like minds and hang out. It's not a publicity stunt. In fact, this is only the second or so Fanfest that's actually been run by Bungie, Fanfest started as an event run by fans that Bungie made appearances to.
Media coverage, celebrities and whatnot is exactly the opposite of everything the Fanfest represents. Perhaps you should stick to watching the Spike Video Game Awards.
Qbix would understand that, I think.
We're a fan community for a video game. There's an inherent level of geek in order to even be a part of this community. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, there's nothing wrong with showing your spirit, too, which is exactly what Qbix did. And personally, I think it was cool that he was brave enough to do such a thing. Much cooler, anyway, than trying to warp the view of a fan community so you can justify it to other that might think you're a geek.
One thing that gets me is that most people that sign up are so far away that they wont be attanding, it happened last year. I think some 50 poeple didnt show- thats a lot. it s not fair to the locals who can attend and live the fanfest experience for the geogrphically challenged.
And saying "Oh, but it's okay to come if you live in LA" is not fair to the people all over the world that'd love to attend the fanfest but can't because registration is full. The registration wasn't based on geographic proximity to the event because that is an unfair way of deciding who can come. It sucks that registration has to be limited at all, but that unfortunately is just the way it is.
