Please, no one get in here and flame ATi or nVidia. We just had a major one the other day, I still feel like a turd.

I like Sapphire for ATi cards. They just seem to make better ones than the others for lower prices. Not to mention their Toxic series is pretty cool. Asus makes top of the line cards but they are way too pricey.

If you want a rock solid, highlyocerclockable and good-looking card, HIS is awesome. They are a bit more expensive than the Built by ATi ones, however their IceQ cooling is crazy... ATi rocks solid on Direct3D, and is okay at OpenGL, although at high res ATi gets it's butt kicked. Other way around with nVidia. Really, either is good, just decide which card you want, and then check the other brand's prices/performance of the similar card.

I hear BFG and eVGA are good nVidia ones, too.

Right now I have a Radeon 9600 XT. it works just fine with my system and the games i play. I would choose the nVidia 6800 if i had the money but like sexy said thats another topic. You should choose a generation of cards in your price range then look at technology between nVidia and ATi to see what you would need. then go to which make and model of that type you want.

Heyyo,

I use 3rd party. I have now upgraded to a Sapphire 9800 PRO for just $70CDN! w00t! Yeah, some fool broke the vga port, n' traded it in, I swooped in, n' am now happy with it.. damn happy. After the lan party of me town's done (http://www.crlan.com) I'm gonna try soldering onna new vga port. ;)

Nvidia's good, just watch out for those rip off cards. GF4 MX440 and the FX5600 aren't worth the cash they have them out for (last I checked).
