How could you use a map editor on an xbox?

Unless your talking about something like of tony hawk which would really suck. Theirs not that much you can play around with when your playing on an xbox.
A good idea would to let you have a map editor on the computer, then, send it as a request to Bungie. If they aprove of it, they'll make it a downloadable map.

I don't think there will be - considering the amount of detail in an Mplayer map it would be very hard to create a Map-Editor simple enough for the majority of the public to use...

it doesn't need to be simple enough for the majority of the public to use. Avid fans will produce more than enough quality maps.

best bet, put a limited level editor on the xbox and a more robust one for PC

A level editor on Xbox just wouldn't work, as some have pointed out the complexity would be prohibitive.

But ontop of that it just wouldn't work on a technological level. Generating Light-maps & Calculating BSP trees are fundamental to keeping the performance of Halo constant, so your poor Xbox would have to figure all that out, and that would take weeks.

I do hope they launch a level editor on the PC so people can create maps. Then they can look at the best maps and make them 'official'. That way also ensuring there are no loopholes hacks or cheats built into maps by people.

Jndu - yes but the current maps require several professional game programmers working full time... test Xboxs running around the clock to insure that the game won't crash due to faults in the way the map is set up etc...

for bungie to create a map editor costs money, time, etc and the number of people able to use the software is very very limited... that is why there won't be a map editor...

Timesplitters 2 have had a Map-Editor. Ok, it was the worst thing, i' ve ever seen.
But here we are speaking from Bungie!!!

The idea to create maps on the PC and sent it to Bungie to make them to official Download Content sounds very good!!!

The new XBox Live, that is the process of being updated today and will be ready tomarrow is said to have contained a level editor and a logo editor... I think bungie will probably make one for Halo 2, but it'll probably be simple because it's hard to create levels with a controler (another reason xbox needs keyboard and mouse support)...

I already have a few idea's I'd like to make for Halo 2.

and who knows? Maybe you can submit your levels to bungie and they'll touch them up if they like it?

I don't think there will be but it would be cool.
The problem is that it would take days to make a little map.
I mean try making blood gulch again.

I heard that your only able to move things in different places, like if there are gun turrets or vehicles in the level then you can move them to different places before you play. Might be possible.

There was a rumor a while back that the reason Halo 2 was taking so long was that they were including a Map-Editor. Apparently you would be able to share maps through xbox live and play each other on them. This is only a rumor though and a long time has past since i heard it with no relivent news.

Okay with the new Xbox Live! 3.0 everyone is supposed to have there own online storage of so much... If you are able to upload from a PC then a PC map editor would be great... But the possobility of map editing on the Xbox is not that far fetched... If you consider games like Red Alert Command and Conquer.... These had simple map editors that you had a basic layout... You select a size for the map and then you select a basic terrain... After that is put together then all you have to do is put the peices in ther right place like a mountian or a cave it wouldn't be that hard to put the levels together... And when you test play it the program can be set up that when you are done it does all the high end graphics filling... The person that made the map wouldn't have to worry about weather and everything else... that could be just a setting tell it what time of the day the map is set for and what weather and the progam would put all that in... So most of the map editor would just be settings while the main map would just be a pick a piece and drop it where you want it and raise and lower land... The program could do the rest...

------YOU CAN'T TAKE A GIRL TO THE LIBRARY!------

they could have people make maps on the pc then have others vote to see which should become downloadable content.

Couldnt they offer an application (map editor) to be run on a PC, then you download the map files to your xbox live account profile?

I think that is the best bet. If it is even possible to add custom map files to the xblive profile, you know someone will write the app for it....
