ARBITER, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!!! WORT WORT WORT.

Set it to Heroic.

I've yet to get through there on Legendary. Been playing since 2002.

Wait, are you an Astronomer.

Get used to dying.

Be slow. In the beginning, take everything out before moving further. In the beginning, use your pistol for the combat forms. When you get the shotty, you can move a bit more freely, but you still shouldn't make too much Flood to attack you. Use the pistol for killing combat and carrier forms from distance quickly, shotty for close range. Do not waste ammo on infectors; dance around while shooting the other forms and then melee them to death. You can skip some battles: it's possible to go around a central room the opposite way you are supposed to, and in some HYPUTMR rooms you can hide near the door that's supposed to be opened.

Chill out - dude, you really need to

Bring back Final Run!

Stock up on grenades... use them wisely. aim for the chain effect whereby you explode the greandes lying around the floor - great for decimating flood.

don't be afraid to run for the -blam!- hills

if you gotta back into a corner, make it a corner with a health pack in it.

dont ignore the little flood critters cos you'll be out of shields a lot!

Expanding on what Log has said, there are specific rooms where you can hide while the Monitor goes grocery shopping. My favorite is the double-door room, where you get trapped. You can hide in a corner the whole time until the Sentinels open the door for you.

You can also bypass fights in the areas that open directly onto the Index Pit of Death. You can crouch-jump onto the sloped walls and go around the Flooded areas.

When you see a Rocket Launcher, FOR GOD'S SAKE, JUMP. THEN SHOOT IT. If you can keep Mobbers between you and the rockets, the Rockets will just shoot the Mobbers. This is a tactic that I use to its fullest. Saves me a full clip off a shotgun.

At the start, you can kill everything, but as soon as you get to those vents that Flood...uh...Flood out of, run for your life, bounce a couple frags off the walls to where you just walked, and keep on runnin'.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

That level makes me angry! I hate it. Bad lighting, bad spots to do battle. Tons of enemies and good luck finding ammo for your favorite weapons. I LOVE IT!

Just message me on live.

Time your grenades and fire rockets. Hide in a corner, too.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

getting through the library on legendary requires more method and patience than gunplay and accuracy. you can move past roughly 80% of the levels fights simply by running and moving on to the next area. the only few places where you have to fight you can hole up in a corner or put your back to a wall and unload with the shotty as people come to you. this is the only level where i'll run shotty/AR instead of shotty/pistol, there are so many infection forms here they can over come you quickly.

chickenlittle pointed out some good tips too.

Two time Mythic member

I recall a lot of running forward and then running back to a defensive position. I use the needler or the pistol when targets are at a distance, the shotgun of course for close combat and there's always a plasma rifle or assault rifle laying around when you need to shoot all the little bugs on the floor.
I go easy on the grenades because I don't like blowing up everything that's laying around. There might be something there that I need to pick up but there are certain places where grenades are very useful.

  • 09.11.2008 10:26 AM PDT

s3x on the flag

Clear out all flood you can see before moving forward. Beware Flood dropping in from the sides of the room. Always have a shotgun. Do not throw plasmas at Flood running toward you as the Flood will carry the grenade back to you. In desperate situations find a corner and blow Flood away with the shotgun when they stick their tentacles around the corner.

Just do it, it's not as hard as it sounds. Once you get past the first part it gets a lot easier.

Yeah, don't run ahead. Hiding is actually not a bad idea. Hide in a litte column and combat forms can be mowed down with a shot two by two.

  • 09.11.2008 8:11 PM PDT

It's one of the easiest levels on legendary, the only challenging bit is the beginning.

And the end. They all charge you, but if you can get across to the other side of the door, you can keep backpedaling. Watch out for the ramp though; it's a deathtrap.

Use a plasma rifle to take off their limbs. And keep something with punch like a pistol/shotty/rockets to hold the ground.

Move like a Spartan
Don't rush, let them come to you, from one direction
Shotgun/Plasmapistol and use the few Rockets you find
Grenade use
Let Sentinels help you
Grab all the overshields and healthpacks

When I play it I'm always at 1 health bar, but killing me is a lot harder.

Can you believe it?

It's easy after playing Halo 2 on Legendary. The only hard part of the level is the end.

This level has two distinct personalities, depending on how many times the player has gone through it. The old axiom that those who refuse to learn from their history are doomed to repeat it comes to mind.

For those new to the level, it is a die fest (personality 1), mainly because you have gotten used to being able to plow through enemies that mainly come at you from in front of you. This is one of the gleefully mean parts of the game design. Bungie gets you used to only having to worry about what is in front of you. They gave the enemy weapons and made them very identifiable threats allowing you to prioritize what to take out first. The numbers of enemies were also limited to manageable levels, even on Legendary. There was always sufficient cover to duck back to and the enemy rarely came after you beyond a certain point. You could be very aggressive and not pay a serious price for it most of the time.

For the old haggard warrior pros the level is a test of patience, planning and skill (personality 2). Hopefully, having realized that you are now faced with alot more enemies that can kill you with or without a weapon, can come at you from all sides AND FOLLOW YOU WHEREVER YOU GO, you now work your art of doling out death very differently. You begin to realize that more is not always better (i almost never use the rocket launcher in this level, but always have either pistol), that slower is better than faster (allowing you to manage the high numbers of enemies by backpedaling and killing), and that as bada** as you think you are as the MC your tin butt can be had by less than a dozen infection forms.

For all of the negative press on this level, I think it is one of the crucial ones. Beyond being just a blast (look at all of the enemies you get to kill!!!) it challenges you strategically because you are rarely given situations where you can take much time to think about how to approach it. Fighting against the covies, the tougher situations are usually those that you have the luxury of looking over, ducking back into cover and figuring out how you want to handle it. The AI keeps the covies in much more predictable patterns and areas. 10 minutes after you see something, duck away, have a beer and a brat and come back, the situation is pretty much the same (with a few exceptions like the natural bridge in AotCR if the banshees lift off) With the flood, once they are unleashed (usually right on top of you in serious numbers) you have to react quickly, and correctly, or it's lights out. Granted the AI is very predictable, once unleashed they kill you or you kill them, there is no unringing the bell once the fight starts. Against the covies, you can engage them, back off and out of sight for 45 seconds and they act like you were never there. With the flood, yeah right, not gonna happen. All in all, the flood are a much more formidable enemy.

So for those of you who continue to bash the Library, please think about what it added to the game, the strategy and the sheer violence level of the game!

Campiagn Kill Count :31,745. And growing.

The Revisionaries- One of the greatest screenshot groups on B.net. With 250 members and growing.

It's really not all that hard.. it's just kinda frustrating, and all you want to do is finish it. I've beaten it once.

Only move on when you've killed everyone in front of you. Rushing through will just get you a ton of followers and you won't stand a chance. The only real hard part is at the end, where the door opens and a ton of them rush out at you. I remember spending a long time on that part.

Actually, there is one distinct aspect of the final battle of the Library that makes it easier than the rest of the level. The flood only comes at you from one direction, through the door. Try this: arm yourself with a pistol and a shotty, use the pistol until they get about 3 seconds away, switch to the shotty to clean up the stragglers. Stay by the door on the right hand side, outside of the entry and move back as you use the pistol, forward as you reload and switch to the shotty. If you get into trouble, back up and go to your right for serious cover, otherwise just duck behind the door and put a step or two between you and the opening. It is actually rather easy if you are patient. For fun, you can swap occassionally to a needler and take them out while you get the cool pink death cloud! I also recommend tossing a plasma on occassion into the pile of dead bodies (from a safe distance of course), as you get quite the pile of plasmas dropped around the doorway when you do things this way. If you use a needler while there are more than 5-6 dead ones there and a live one goes pink near the grenades, loooooooooooooook out if you are too close, you are a goner.

  • 09.17.2008 2:09 PM PDT

The last battle is not that hard if you know how to do it. Instead of running straight towards the bridge, take a left and move around the huge coloumn, you'll avoid about a million flood this way and you can just run to the end.

  • 09.20.2008 4:03 AM PDT

If I remember correctly, the first time I did it I used a second controller (ie. Co-op) so I could get used to everything on Legendary, pick out all the hiding spots, weapon pick-up, places to avoid (not that there really are any...). Then I went back later and after hours and hours, managed to complete is on Single-Player.

: )

pistol and shotgun are the best weapons to have, throw nades alot, try not to stick enemies, rockets are best used for the run at the end, if you know your coming up to a zone with friendlies or the elevator just run for your life, and finally plasma weapons are much more effective than assault rifles because if used properly you wont need to reload and they can delimb flood better thus creating walking sheilds for your pleasure.

ps sometimes my game mest up a little and the fllod with no arms would still go through the motion of a melee and do the damage.

thats about it. i just played through the entire single player on legendary and this level was second hardest. good luck on keyes....
