Subject: Zealots... peerless?

Chill out - dude, you really need to

Bring back Final Run!

Even in Halo 2 we had the Zealots. On Legendary any man or woman who says they felt no fear for his Spartan's life when he saw a Zealot is a liar.

What is the Halo 3 equivalent? The Brute Chieftain? A worthy foe, but hardly a peer of the mighty sword-swinging, invisible, running, jumping, hunting Zealot.

Not a criticism cos i love Halo 3... just reminiscing.

Zealots didn't have Camo.

Also, I dunno about you, but the only Zealot I saw in Halo 2 was on the level "Uprising", and the only difference between it and the other Elites was its color. No extra shields, just color.

I miss them too.

ARBITER, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!!! WORT WORT WORT.

There is no equivalent in Halo 3. Absolutely none. Brutes are inferior to Elites in Halo 3. In Halo 2, they could win a fight (Mausoleum fight anyone) against Elites.

I just back up with the needler after nade spamming them. And I pray.

i think those are the two things i miss the most... the manic chaotic 3 ways battles, and a worthy adversary. with the brutes it's simply a matter of plying them full of ordinance

True enough. They're just not fun to fight. There's no reason for you to be challenged by them now, since they lack recharging shields.

I respect your opinion, I'm probably just going to disagree with it.

Yeah... I felt disappointed by the Elite AI in Halo 3; they just didn't seem... agressive enough. I mean, fighting a Spec Ops elite in Halo: CE was actually pretty challenging, and they looked and felt hardcore, but in Halo 3 they just seem fairly... wimpy. I know they're on your side and all, but I saw no real difference between the Majors, Minors and SpecOps Elites.

Zealots were teh win. I remember when I first met the one on 'The Silent Cartographer' and I was like:
"OH -blam!- -blam!- -blam!- HE RUNS FASTER THAN ME! Run run run..." *three assault rifle mags later* "How is he still alive?! *sleic* Oh, bollocks."
Mmm. It was a good time. There was just something awesome about the way they unerringly sprinted towards you, bearing down with that giant blue-flaming plasma sword.

There were no differences. They were just different skins, and they had no aggressiveness whatsoever. Not to mention you only meet them twice in the whole Campaign. They really dropped the ball with the Elites in Halo 3.

I realized today that in Normal, a Rocket and 4 melees can't kill one. No matter how many times I try. :P

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

yea, the way they went about things when they shifted to the brutes really hurt the game. i realized that they wanted to drive the point home that the brutes are more beast, and less tactician.

but they were supposed to make the brutes more ferocious, and it certainly did not feel that way. with the exception of the chieftan, i had to difficulty fighting brutes, even in large numbers.

as far as the zealot itself, the only other enemy that can live through that much ordinance is a hunter (not including the magic pistol shot), and at least they are slower. if there were more instances in that game with zealots that would have been awesome.

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

Brutes are just too passive, like all Covenant in Halo3.

Gone are all the amazing "grab a Warthog and throw it over" moments seen before Halo3. All that is left are lazy apes with plating shield. When they go berseker they are pathetic.

But Elites in Halo3 aren't any less pathetic. They are seen twice (once against Flood, once Brutes, they never use any vehicles besides Mongoose, which they drive horribly), the athmosphere they create with voice and movement is near none...

Not complaining though

  • 09.19.2008 1:04 PM PDT

Just message me on live.

In Halo:CE they die from a sticky but not from a rocket. Does this really make sense? They are still a real challenge, though.

  • 09.19.2008 3:44 PM PDT

Zealot fights were the most memorable moments in Halo 1, They were awe-inspiring.

Zealots, as we all know have a natural, rechargeable Overshield in halo CE, while they did not go camo, those dead ultras, (the silver clad elites) which you can find all over the campaign sometimes leave behind a camo powerup or overshield powerup, possibly hinting that they were the top leader in combat, but unknown, as they only played their role as corpses.

In Halo 2, they should have overshields, but they dont seem that different to the spec ops elite when they fight with you against the brutes.

I haven't played halo 3, but yea, according to wiki, the AI for them was dumbed down sadly.

If I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good nite.

I remember running into a Sword elite in Halo CE for the first time and getting absolutely hacked. My friend and I would unload on him and still he managed to get at least one of us.

And yea. Elites and Brutes are weak in Halo 3. In Halo 2 Brutes were a pain and almost unstoppable with their fur while elites were just an easy Quick Switch kill.

The whole brute-elite thing..

Elites have a much better feel to them. You felt triumph after beating one and terror if there were more than three. After killing a brute, you just feel like giving Jane Seymour an apology.

  • 09.19.2008 8:49 PM PDT

The Zealot behind the door on Silent Cartographer was the only one that gave me any trouble.

White Elites in Halo 2 present far more of a challenge. I still haven't managed to Complete Halo 2 Legendary because of encounters with them on the Cairo.

I had to resort to a Plasma Pistol + Plasma Rifle combo on the ones in the Truth and Reconciliation.

True.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

One shot with that blue sword of thiers and you were toast. It sucked. And on the Control Room level i always had to make sure my clip was full before he came out to dance.

Sometimes when I look at the moon at night, my mind embraces the thought of a love so vivid and true that I almost believe it is real. Then, due to my delusions, I am forced back into reality and begin to indulge myself in real life vices such as chocolates and German board games to get that once natural high.

I just let my friend run in front of it and die several times before I could assassinate it.

To play or not to play....

Or Ultras for that matter. Damn those Ultras were hard to kill off. Seems they would be very useful in a battle. The only ultras I seems to see in Halo 3 were in High Charity in the form of Flood combat forms and even then they were not as strong as the Ultras in Halo 2.

I too miss all the different types of Elites. Ultras, Zealots, Honour Guards and what not. All of them were very cool.

Just for the record I think I saw a few Zealots in Halo CE as you fight that major battle where you steal the Banshee. The one with the tank and the two Hunters. If you look around during the batle one of the Elites is Bright yellow and quite hard to kill. If you get close to that yellow dude it will whip out a sword at the drop of a hat. I also remember one being on a bridge and again hard to kill. Another one appeared near the control room. They were all over.

Zealots are tougher than normal but nowhere near what the Ultra was. I have seen Ultras take three plasma grenades and still stand up fighting. Now that is a worthy opponent. Though Zealot were masters of sword play, oh boy they could swing those things. Not to mention their jumping abilities. One jump and they would be on top of you if not closer than you wished.

Hmmm the good old days.

I'd say that the Zealots in Halo 2, thinking of the one on Uprising, was different in terms of AI and aggression from the others. He always made it out to the clearing where the Brutes would come in with shotties and ghosts. Sometimes with the Thunderstorm, he'll spawn as an Ultra, and sometimes not.

In terms of aggressive with a gun, I don't think you can much beat the Black spec-ops Elites on The Maw. Not to mention those grunts went ape with those fuel rods..

The CE Zealots... faster than you, and they jump at you. As if it wouldn't get any worse.

I'd say that the Ultras are the ones to beat... but they were easy to kill once you made them drop their weapon and whip out their sword. Well, kind of...
