Subject: Zealots... peerless?

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

The whole brute-elite thing..

Elites have a much better feel to them. You felt triumph after beating one and terror if there were more than three. After killing a brute, you just feel like giving Jane Seymour an apology.

hahaha, yea i'd be inclined to agree. the brutes just weren't threatening. i mean in the second level you run into a hanger that has like 8 of them, of varying ranks. even on legendary you just need to do a lot of pop-out shooting and bring them down one by one.

earlier elites would not have went out like that. they would have come after you a lot harder.

Yes, but apparently the meaning of "aggressive" somehow changed between Halo: CE and Halo 2.

I'd say that the Zealots in Halo 2, thinking of the one on Uprising, was different in terms of AI and aggression from the others. He always made it out to the clearing where the Brutes would come in with shotties and ghosts. Sometimes with the Thunderstorm, he'll spawn as an Ultra, and sometimes not.

In terms of aggressive with a gun, I don't think you can much beat the Black spec-ops Elites on The Maw. Not to mention those grunts went ape with those fuel rods..

The CE Zealots... faster than you, and they jump at you. As if it wouldn't get any worse.

I'd say that the Ultras are the ones to beat... but they were easy to kill once you made them drop their weapon and whip out their sword. Well, kind of...

i loved it when those guys got close and pulled their blade out, it was so personal, kind of a compliment. then you had to get involved mano e mano, you HAD to bust your guns to get it.

brutes sort of just wait to take bullets to the dome

I was playing Halo 3 campaign and a Brute was folding his laundry. Lol that's what it seems like, every time.

Zealots are scary in CE, I just wait for the door to open, and just press the nade spam trigger until it's over.

Bungie is the best.

Simple as that.

to be honest you can back that point up and a few others about difficulties by my own conclusion that the campaigns for halo1 and halo2 were harder than halo3. Halo 2 i think was the hardest overall.

  • 09.25.2008 1:28 PM PDT

Halo 2 wasn't just hard - it was punishing. Too many bottlenecks and areas where you could only get through one way.

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

I would like in Halo 3 where you fioght Elites who are fighting against the brutes on Earth until Half-Jaw comes. Then the Elites stop fighting the humans and head into the ark. Once you kill truth, the Elite flees should go to Delta Halo and Launch an assault on the flood and High Charity.

  • 09.25.2008 2:16 PM PDT

Yes, but the Elites became useless when their hitboxes lost the magnetism.

Halo 3 needed more Elites. There were more Elites in the first area of the Pillar of Autumn in Halo:CE then you see in the entire campaign in Halo 3.

But I kind of get why they dumbed down their AI. They didn't want to make the game too easy and have the AI almost fight for you. Case and point ---> Marines.

I downright respected the Zealots. Very worthy adversaries with seemingly limitless cunning.

  • 09.25.2008 9:42 PM PDT

Halo 1 Zealots rarely scare me anymore. The plasma pistol destroys them too easily. They resort in blind charging too much. Best moments are when they go on ninja mode and jump around. Still, their existence is enough to force me retreat

Halo 2 has it's variance... the most dangerous one is the one that charges you on Cairo Station, since you do not have the equipment or tactics to battle him. The Outskirts ones are beaten by my elevation. Metropolis fieldie usually gets the shotgun. Gravemind Zealot.dog is overshadowed by the Spec Ops Carbiners.

Most Brute Chieftains are also pretty easily defeated. The Sniper and BR can kill most of 'em. The Plasma turret on Crow's Nest is a tough one. The Fuel rod guys usually cause me to go extremely careful to avoid them. The very final one is also pretty dangerous, as I'm all out of ammo at that point. The duel in The Ark is pretty fun.

absolutely, they made you raise your game or flee for the hills. who else do you face that makes you turn your back and just run??

Brutes are like big ass ammo-sponges sometimes, just standing there and soaking it all up. especially if you snipe them from distance.

Brutes are just too passive, like all Covenant in Halo3.

Gone are all the amazing "grab a Warthog and throw it over" moments seen before Halo3. All that is left are lazy apes with plating shield. When they go berseker they are pathetic.

100% agree

They took a certain skill to kill cause you actually had to figure out HOW to beat them other then charging in.. I remember trying Truth and Rec.. on legendary about 20 times tying to clear the room of the Sword elites :P

I love the Zealots in TaR, not the randomly spawning ones in the Gravity lift room, but the ones elsewhere, in the control room, no matter what difficulty, I admit that I panick somewhat when I try to snipe it, only to fail and be sliced in two by the gold armored adversary.

The zealots did not make much of a apparence in Halo 2, the Ultras seemed to do all the work of being the badass, but again, that one Zealot that fights "with you" against the brutes is to me, the best gift bungie has ever given to players in the Halo series.

As for the whole brute thing, I don't know what bungie was saying that brutes were unfinished, and dumb. I consider them to be rightfully tough to kill in Halo 2. They have no shields, but even on Normal Difficulty, they can kill you easily if you don't watch yourself.

Though I missed out on Halo 3, im kinda glad I didn't get it, Sangheili were my favorte adversary/ally, to learn that they have been neglected terribly is a sad truth.

dude... you didn't finish the fight?! i mean, i thought i'd be able to hold out cos cash was kinda tight, but then i went to Halo3.com and bought the game and 360 within a week

but back on topic, the Elite with the huge white jagged helmet was a total warrior

Brutes hold have been better if when they charged you and you jumped behind a barrior they would go barreling through it not try to hit you through the object or stop and rotate like WTF?!?!?!? where did he go?. The zelot moments, where like, is that- god damit it is OPEN FIRE......gun shots......RUN AWAY!!!! RETREAT!!! thats how a fight should be

No other Covenant has made me fill my pants like the H1 zealots. Such a tough enemy. The Brute chieftains were good foes to fight against but I never ever thought "Oh god a chieftain".

I still remember leaving the Sword Zealot on the bridge on AotCR and then flying back up to bridge in a Banshee later in the game. I was just goofing around hovering in front of the Zealot, taunting him, but then I was horribly surprised when the Zealot leapt off the bridge and swiped my banshee, killing me, before falling to his own death.

Hard core.

These are the sort of great tidbits that you never see anymore in the Halo 2 and Halo 3 Campaigns. The enemies are no longer aggressive, and no longer take risks. Want to see a Brute charge your banshee in Halo 3 after going berserk? Oh, wait, good luck getting him to do that! Oh, you did? Well, good luck getting him to hit your banshee. If you can get one, that is! Oh, you even did that too? Well, how is he gonna reach your banshee in mid-air? He can't jump 5 feet!

Anyhoo, I also loved doing these sort of things. I always got frustrated when shortly after leaving the tunnel in Two Betrayals, if a Zealot spawned at that battle, he's charge through the Flood and attack me and only me. Good thymes.

  • 10.15.2008 7:49 PM PDT

They would be scarier for me, but when I think of the gold plated elite the first thing that comes to mind is the one on the Control room bridge above where you get the warthog. Somehow I managed to have it lunge off the edge, and it was hilarious.

I find Ultras far more intimidating for that reason. Plus they constantly destroyed me on Cairo station legendary.

Zealots didn't have Camo.

Also, I dunno about you, but the only Zealot I saw in Halo 2 was on the level "Uprising", and the only difference between it and the other Elites was its color. No extra shields, just color.

I miss them too.
