To make the actual 3d map terrain you use a developer program like 3DS Max, or the free more typical modder friendly GMax. Then you export it, use geurilla and several other compiling tools, and then open sapien and place trees, aesthetics, spawn points...it becomes a long process for maps larger than Derelict, especially if you thrown in teleporters and water.

I asked this before but I dont recall the name of the thread or when I asked it. Can I use Cinema 4D by Maxxon to create the terrain and such. Its similar to 3ds but I dont know if that means it is compatible with HEK. I would like to get into the map making just for practice of modeling but dont know 3ds yet. I dont really want to get any new software until I know what the college I am going to uses. They require a license and I am about to spen at least $200 on C4d ver 9 and cant really afford to buy software I wont be able to use in college. My current teacher mentioned something about changing the file types for our internships because the company we are working with uses 3ds but he said he is going to do it all. Any info would be much appreciated.
