In my opinion Halo 2 had some of the best maps any multiplayer FPS could ever have. Well thought of, well balanced, and the most part, fun!
Then the second to last map pack came out ( Elongation, Terminal ) and those glitch infested maps sucked! It's like there wasn't any thought put into it, just imagination.
Now there's Halo 3. I think the only good map on it is Last Resort because even with the lack of effort, it's like they upgraded the old Zanzibar. We got maps like Isolation, Snowbound, Epitaph, and Standoff; it's like Bungie focused more on the oohs and ahhs on it, instead focusing on making it fun, fair, and sane.
My theory is that they fired the only smart map designers after they released the Killtacular Pack and gave the job to some ametuer.
What Bungie screwed up on the new maps
Terminal - Nice spawn up top, good place to camp. Everyone loves the train.
Elongation - WTF would the map be moving for?
Gemeni - What do you think some -blam!- campers gunna do?
Isolation - I coud've made this map with legos; and who the hell thought up it would be cool to go underground. Do I look like a -blam!- mole to you?
Snowbound and Epitaph - "Uh I got an idea" says the Bungie Staffman, "let's have sheild doors and influence camping.
Standoff - Nuff said. Look at my previous forums.
Back to my point. What happened to the map desighner(s) that took pride in their work? Are they no longer with Bungie or did they turn to the darkside?
