Hey, I tried having a look through some stickies, but didn't come across anything that was immediately obvious.

Can Halo 1 run on Vista? It says 98SE/ME/2000/XP on the box, but doesn't say vista, though in 2003 Vista wasn't out.

Just before I try anything else as it isn't auto-running, does H1PC even run on here?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Yes Halo PC works on Vista. If you experience low framerates try turning off decals in the video options.

Turning off all of Vista's silly, fancy desktop effects would most likely help, too.

I'll have to fiddle about then, and try and work out why it isn't autorunning or coming up in Computer.

Thanks.

I'm there but, man this is really starting to sound like communism.
Long live the MAW.

I'm working on XP, so sorry if I'm wrong;
Can't you just open up 'My Computer', and double click your CD/DVD drive which Halo PC is in?

You'd think so, but the disk isn't appearing in the drive at all, even after I can hear it spin up for a while.

What's strange is that I installed things today and yesteday by CD/DVD and the laptop is 2 days old.

I think I'll leave it until tomorrow and see if it magically works. In the mean time, I'm going to install BF2 if I can find the disk...

Since you don't actually know whats going on, vista turns off all the GPU accelerated effects when you enter a fullscreen game(or other graphics program.)

It works on Vista, (I know from experience), but you should delete some crap in the Task Manager. (So it runs faster)

I use Vista, I also use my Halo PC game on Vista. I am pretty sure it would work with you too.

I have 2 computers a xp based and a vista x64 based system. I can play halo on both systems. However, the vista system is much more difficult to use, because of difference from one moment to the next for lead in multiplayer mode. If you have a choice don't upgrade to vista a number of things will work but not at the level you would expect with an upgrade. Also, halo 2 pc is a much inferior game than halo 1.

Surely the lead is the same no matter what OS?

Runs kinda fine on Vista.

As already said, try disabling some stuff since the decals (or something else) are causing heavy fps drops even on fast machines.

Have fun! :)

it wourks ok on Vista, I mean it is playable, but it has some annoying problems. The framerate issues are the biggest thing for me, because even after turning everything low, it still does exactly the same thing. I looked up this problem on other sites and can't get a good solution, so I just play with the poor framerate issues. Basically, when you enter an environment that is large, the game starts slowing down and jumping. Other than that, it is very smooth and great to play on Vista. Of course, Halo tends to have a lot of outdoor environments that mess with the framerate.

No problems for me either, actually runs better for me on Vista than it did when I had XP.

To the OP, it sounds like you don't already have the game installed, and this problem has happened to a few Vista users I know, not sure what causes it where the disc doesn't show up in the "my computer" portion. But when you put the disc in, does something pop up on the screen? usually in Vista a box pops up and asks what you would like to do with this program.

What Vista are you using and is it x32 or x64?

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Works great with Vista!

Group RPG's!

DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING IT! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING IT!

This has cleared up something's that I was going to ask.

Lets hope that for Windows 7, that Halo 1 and Custom Edition still works with it.
