Hi everyone
I have tried everything in an attempt to get my Halo 2 Disc to connect to xbox live on my Xbox360

About a week ago, i could play halo 2 as well as any other original xbox game on my Xbox360 while connected online. I go to play yesterday, and i says that i cannot connect to xbox live.
NOTE -My problem is not playing the actual disc, it is connecting to xbox live while playing the disc.

When i attempt to sign it says cannot connect to xbox live please start trouble shooter. When i start the trouble shooter, my connection is fine and i pass all tests. HOWEVER i am still unable to connect to xbox live on those original xbox games. I am able to play H3 and COD4 (rarely) on my Xbox360 ONLINE. THe only time i have a problem is when i am trying to connect on an original xbox game.

I have called 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and have spent over 2 hours with them, and they cannot find a problem with what i am doing.

My only hope now is to find some one that has had the same problem and has fixed it. Please if anyone has any idea why this is happening please post.
If a bungie employee has any information or suggestions it would also be greatly accepted.

Much appreciated

I don't know enough about yours to give a good answer yet. Here's what I assume; you pop in H2 (or any regular xbox game) and you are already signed in to live (360 sign-in), right? Then it should ask if you want updates or does it sign you out as soon as the disc starts loading?

If it asks for updates, what does it say when you answer yes?

If it signs you out, does it go right to the 'cannot connect text'? What does it say when you leaf over to system and look in 'connect to xbox live'? There, you should be able to run a connectivity test to see what is failing.

There are two things to try:
1 Clear the memory cache in the hd.

2 Try plugging the 360 directly into the modem (if you have a router of some sort), especially do this if the connectivity test fails. It's possible your router sees the change in content on your hd when you put in an xbox game (instead of a 360). It may see a security problem and block it. Some routers have their own firewall or it could be the firewall on your comp. (you may want to disable your comp. security for a few minutes to see if your connection can get through). Even some modems have their own firewall.

Have you recently uploaded/updated any security?

hey man

after the disc is put in, during the loading screen it asks to download the updates
after i finish downloading the updates it brings me to the main menu of the original game
from that menu i select connect to xbox live

the error text apears and it leads me to the dashboard to make a connection test
after the connection test passes 100%, i proceed to the dashboard, bummed out....

I have gone as far as reformatting the Hard drive, after clearing cache failed to solve the issue.

I was on the phone for 3 hours today with xbox customer support
I was eventually put through to the supervisor who after running all possible trouble shooting tests, decided to get me to download the backwards compatibility program via my computer and a burnt disc. After performing the download and executing the backwards compatibility disc, the original games with still not connect to live.

Obviously the super visor was surprised at this, and said that he had never seen anything like this before, and that the only other thing that he could think of (after talking to the "Offline Assistance Specialist" ) was to send me their version of the backwards compatibility disc, saying that sometimes the online version from their website does not work for all consoles.

The disc should be here in 5-7 business days
And they said that if this does not work i am to send in my xbox for repairs
however i find it illogical to send my xbox into repair when they do not know what is wrong with it in the first place.

Thank you Grump1 for the interest you have shown
i look forward to your response.

Yeah, I agree, sending it in would do no good. It just sounds to me like the connection itself is cut-off (independent of the console). If you go into System you can find the page that displays your connection information. With H3 inserted, there should be IP addresses, gateway addresses and such. While that screen is on display, take out the H3 disc and put in H2 and see if the numbers change or go to zero after it loads.

If nothing changes, then you may have that backwards compatibility prob. If the IP address disappears, then something in your system might be blocking you, like a router or your comp's firewall.

This is a tough one.

I have already opened all the ports being used for my xbox, and my xbox''s ip is allowed on my firewall (McAfee), so i don't think it is a problem with the connection its self.
But yeah i will definitely try to do what you said

but after that i will have tried everything
and so i guess i'll post back when the disc comes in

thanks for the help
talk to ya in a week
