Before I start, my Xbox's region code is the United States.

I recently purchased Halo CE via the Xbox Live Marketplace, for a whopping 1200G. It took about 14 hours to download (-.-) and when I got up this morning I found that it had downloaded. Excited as I was I opened the Games Library and selected play game. Just after that the original Xbox Splash screen came up (not the X360 one) The screen faded a bit and the error message popeed up:

The Game's region code is not correct for your console- please insert a game with the correct region code. (or something like that)
It then had a number that was formatted like zxxx.x and yxxx.x)

I have absolutely no idea how this would happen, as I downloaded it through the marketplace.

If anyone has any ideas it would be great to hear them.

Thanks
(Btw if this forum isn't for technical help then sorry in advance)

I have no idea what that means, sorry. You should probably try the xbox.com FAQs.

This is all I could find on the issue. I get the feeling that it won't be too helpful, but it's probably worth a try. To me, 4 and 5 look like they would be the best options here.

SYMPTOMS
When you try to play an original Xbox game on your Xbox 360 console, you receive the following error message:
The region code for this game does not match your console's region

CAUSE
Xbox game discs only work with Xbox consoles that are sold in the same region.

For example, if you purchase an Xbox 360 console in North America, you cannot play game discs that are sold in Europe or in Asia. An Xbox 360 console that is sold in Europe can only play game discs that are sold in Europe. And an Xbox 360 console that is sold in Asia can only play game discs that are sold in Asia.

You cannot make an Xbox 360 console from one region play discs that were produced for a different region.

THINGS TO TRY
Here are some steps that you can use to try to resolve the issue. If you cannot resolve the issue yourself, please contact Xbox Customer Support by visiting the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.xbox.com/support/contact (http://www.xbox.com/support/contact)
1.Determine whether the game disc is from the same region as the region where you purchased the Xbox console. To determine the region, view the back of the game package. Look for one of the following codes:
•NTSC: North America and South America (United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and Brazil)
•NTSC-J: Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan)
•PAL: Europe, South Africa, India, Australia, and New Zealand
2.If this symptom occurs with only one or two discs, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base (http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 (http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1)) for the specific game title or titles. If you find a known problem, follow the instructions in that article.
3.If this behavior occurs with only one or two discs and no known problem exists, return the disc or discs to the retail store where you made the purchase.
4.Turn off and unplug your console, remove the Xbox Hard Disk Drive (HDD) unit and any attached memory units (MUs), and then reconnect your console. Try the disc again. If this procedure seems to resolve the problem, turn off and disconnect your console, reattach the HDD and any MUs, and then delete any saved games for the game title in question.

Note If you can do this, save games to a different memory unit.
5.If you have this problem only with original Xbox games, the original Xbox backward compatibility update may be missing from the HDD. To resolve this problem, download and burn a copy of the backward compatibility update to a disc, and then install the update to your console.
If this behavior occurs with more than two discs, the console may have to be serviced.

Thanks for finding that, but sadly it didn't work =(.

That method seems to only apply to the discs- not the Marketplace games, so the only method I could really use was the one where you install the updates, which didn't work.

I was looking around the settings, and discovered that the Xbox 'Locale' was set in Australia, even though it was an American NTSC console. (it was second hand) I have a theory that maybe because the locale was Australia, it tried to download the Australian version (PAL), causing the region code to be invalid.

I am currently downloading it again (another 14 hours -.-) after setting it to the US Locale, hopefully this will work.

I don't think I have ever heard of something like that happening with a marketplace game. You would think it would download the proper game for your system based on where you are downloading from, not the locale of your box, like it would be able to tell based on IP where you are. Strange.
