Some say art is wonderful some does not.

were they stronger and smarter in halo 1? than the other games

  • 09.14.2008 6:51 AM PDT

They were stronger, but...more clever, but not smarter. Likely because they had no Gravemind controlling them.

They had no weak spot, only shotties, the pistol, and a-splosions could take them down. They also truly mobbed you, not that sissy 3-form rush like in the other 2 games. Also they were scary and did actual damage.

plasma pistol was good against them in halo1

I'm in the US Air Force stationed in Alaska. I've been chillin on bnet for nearly 5 years now.

The flood was actually a legitimate threat in Halo CE, swarm after swarm in the Library, and endless corridors filled with flood.

I can't believe there were that many hosts to get in the first place.

In Halo 2 you could pretty much ignore them, and in Halo 3 they are easily taken down with headshots.

  • 09.17.2008 7:19 AM PDT

They became more mundane enemies, rather than a fearsome foe that scared you and actually posed a threat.

  • 09.17.2008 12:27 PM PDT

It’s all cyclical...

I felt that they posed a legit threat to you in CE. In 2 & 3 (especially 2) you could basically just walk/run through them. There were serious battles, where covering and recouping were necessary to survive against the flood in CE (especially on Legendary).

man when you played on the library on legendary, wheeew that was scary. i hated how you could never tell if they were dead

I remember how you couldn't just jump over all the enemies in the first game. Now, you just run and jump past everything.

somewhere in the heavens...they are waiting. I love the Marathon Trilogy.
Halo CE will always be the best game in the Halo franchise. What a perfect game.

The Flood were the Flood in CE, and became annoying insects in 2 and 3.

  • 09.29.2008 4:58 PM PDT

Agreed. And the popcorn in Halo 2 & 3 weren't so much as dangerous, as instant death.

Yes, I've noticed this myself.
Before, the almighty Sniper Rifle was a joke against the Flood. Now a head shot is certain death. I remember scrambling through the levels in CE with nothing but an AR (to kill those annoying little popcorn buggers) and the shotgun (an awesome weapon against the Flood).
Man, the terror I felt was real, the adrenaline was pumping hard as I turned a corner, fearing the emergence of the flood. I don't know how many times I desparately ran amongst their corpses, looking for the ammo to the only real weapons that would work.

Now, they're just cannon fodder. The only challenging ones (to me, at least) are those damn needler shooting porcupine bastards that hang on the walls!

  • 09.29.2008 6:24 PM PDT

Yeah, everything was really dumbed down and and easier or just plain annoying.

1.Arkham Asylum, 2.Mass Effect, 3.Halo CE, 4.Mass Effect 2, 5.Halo 2, 6.Splinter Cell Double Agent, 7.Gears of War 2, 8.Medievil, 9.Oblivion, 10.Crash Team Racing

The tens of infection forms swarming everywhere.
The bags appearing from everywhere and exploding.
The faces of human forms when they jumped right in front of you.
The big figures of elite forms as they run and leap towards you.
They blew up, they used every weapon, they got up again every now and then.

What more do you need?

The core advantage of CE is the A.I. activity and variety. All the races were different and they all didn't stand still for minutes. The simplicity worked like a charm.
In Halo 2 and 3 all the people have some nifty new moves and animation, but their conviction to stand their ground, most of the time completely a stupid choice too, makes it all unimpressive. (OMG he has a Sniper, lets stand here, go to cover once 1 of us dies and then come back in 5 seconds)

I much prefer the CE flood. Basically what they did for H2 was turn the tables. In CE (legendary) you knew the best way to defeat them was to be patient and backtrack with the shotty as the best weapon to immediately slow down anything up to 4 flood rushing you (at least stun them all) and either an AR or Pistol for distance work. They changed that in H2 so that if you did just that strategy, the flood with the shields would kill you before your very watered down shotty could take them out (and the lack of overall shotty ammo became a serious problem). In 2, the weapons of choice became a distance weapon like a BR or Carbine (headshots now actually do something) and the sword for close in work.

The biggest challenges to dealing with the H2 flood are:

Headshots were difficult due to their motion, you got to take out one or two in a group from a distance, then they started their weird movements and headshots are luck...

The stalking motion/animation was so much more radically herky jerky that it was never a guarantee you were actually going to land your shots/sword lunges..

The limited charge of the sword makes it much less effective to hold onto, and they are not as plentiful as the old shotty round were. You really need to make harder choices regarding when to use the sword...

The flood maps do not allow for nearly as much strategic backtracking as GS 343 and The Library did, there are alot more chokepoints and places to get completely trapped. Trying certain maps without Envy are just annoying!

I really enjoy battling the flood in CE, whereas in 2 they really are a nuisance (granted, a deadly one!). The addition of combat forms wielding rocket launchers, driving ghosts, scorpions and warthogs is a nice touch, but with skulls and legendary, it could be just darn near impossible to kill them rather than run from/through them. I personally prefer killing them!

To play or not to play....

Yes they were tougher in Halo CE. Halo 3 Flood are easy to kill off.

Turn on the skulls and that changes :)

I noticed that.
The flood are strong in Halo CE, weak in Halo 2 and and a little bit stronger than Halo 2 in Halo 3.

In Halo and Halo 2 gameplay is really changed; and I think Halo 2 was slightly harder if you didn't own an energy sword. Halo 3's flood was piss-easy.

This about sums it up.

It was harder for me in Halo 2, as I didn't realize you could get headshots.

Yeah, they gave the Flood another weakness. Part of the rush when fighting Flood in the first game is that they are so much more effective in close quarters than you, since they are nearly immune to melee. In Halo 3, unless they're high up, a Tank pure form, or have shields(about 5-10%), melees are nearly useless, unless you have a Gravity Hammer or Sword. Another aspect fixed that wasn't broke.

PLANT CITY, FL - Maybe they were REALLY wanted to make an omelet.

Two men are facing armed burglary charges after the entered a home in Plant City and demanded the victim turn over his metal egg beater, according to their arrest reports .

According to the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office, Robert Thompson and Taurus Morris barged into the victim's home on State Road 60 around 3:30 Sunday morning.

Thompson armed himself with a folding knife, Morris had a chrome pistol, according to the reports.

Investigators say Thompson held the knife against the victim's neck and demanded the egg beater. It was found in Thompson's back left pocket when the men were arrested outside the home.

The report also said the victim knew both men.
