I hope Bungie is putting more thought into preventing a-holes from ruining Halo 2 than they put into keeping them out of the forums. It seems they don't have the capability here to ban by IP address, so people can spam up the forums with crap, get banned, and then register a new name and do it all over again. Rinse and repeat.

Hopefully Halo 2 will have more ways to deal with these idiots that get their rocks off by pissing other people off.

You might want to reconsider what you just said, they are taking measures. And if Achronos sees this, he'll end you. And your b.net account.

He wouldn't really, of course. It's just that Achronos and his web dev team work their tails off making this the best site ever, and he/they get a little peeved when people talk like nothing is done to prevent this kind of thing. In reality, they're working very hard to counter-act this spam and other issues. Just because there aren't updates on it, doesn't mean it's not being taken care of.

Yeah, not trying to be mean. I just don't want to have my gaming experience constantly ruined by idiots like Soviet Cuminator or whatever his name is. Being able to ban by IP address seems like something that would be a no-brainer. But I guess they can always add that later.

I just really hope the Bungie team thinks ahead and comes up with some great ways to keep the idiots from ruining such an awesome game. HaloPC was nearly unplayable for several months because of the teamkillers, and now it's still pretty bad because people just quit and rejoin before they get auto-banned. Idle players also ruin games. If 3 of your 8 teammates aren't playing, it's basically 8 vs 5, which sucks. And then you've got morons who think it's funny to make fun of the holocaust. There will always be jerks online, and I'm sure a big-name title like Halo 2 will bring them out of the woodwork. Hopefully Bungie will take into account that many people aren't as cool and mature as they are and provide ways to deal with these types. Otherwise the fun of playing online will be greatly reduced, if not ruined completely.

Maybe they should make acconts really long and boring to make. That way, it would be frustrating for TKers to get new accounts every 5 seconds!

Banning by IP wouldnt stop you very well either. Changing Ip's is quite simple

I feel like hunting down Tom's post and making it sticky. IP bans only work if the person you are banning has a static IP address. Most people don't, so they're more than useless.
Instead, Tom and the team are working on top secret plans...

For multiplayer, I'd suggest giving the host complete control of the game; allowing him/her to kick people, ban people, easy because xboxes have a unique key embeded into them which is what's used to ban people from live. The only way around it is to buy another xbox, and I doubt many TKers will want to do that, choose how long someone has to be idle before kicking them off the server etc etc.

For the player, offering them the chance to mute/ignore certain players would be good.

And here's the best idea for friendly fire: do it based on the damage caused to other players (counting loss of shielding, naturally). Granted, you can accidentally kill many teammates with the rocket launcher or a grenade, but if some guy goes round attacking teammates, without killing them, it doesn't count, but they're still messing up the game. And, when players retaliate, they risk getting banned.

Incidentally, TKing should also be allowed in retaliation; if some guy kills me for my gun, I should be allowed to kill him, as much as I want in order to teach these people the price of their selfishness.

Heres a measure: Its called the "kick button".

I hope they make it so that kicks can be put to a vote to stop kick-happy hosts from going overboard. So like a vote appears and if >50% say that the guy should leave then its unanymous (spelling?) and that gamertag is kicked. Also there should be a voting time limit so that people who are away dont hold it up...

Socom for PS2 does this well...

If at least 3 of 8 team members of the person who is being a jerk, want him kicked, they vote against him and away he goes, but only his team members.....

umm also, i think (maybe a stupid idea) as for Friendly fire, there could be an option to make it, if you shoot an ally, you get hurt equal to what the person your shooting would have gotten hurt.... so you take the damage instead of the person being shot.

That is unrealistic, but it punishes team killers with thier own game!
