Hey all,

This is your friendly neighbourhoold n00b here. I was just wondering if you ccould help me out with my Halo problem. Never really been interested in the game till someone interested me in Red vs Blue. Now I wanna play the game. Only problem is that every time I try to play it I get the following error message. "Microsolft Windows detected and revoered from a device failure. Please save your work and reboot to restore full functionality." Not sure what is happening to cause this. I mean I know my system is not top of the line but I play Half Life, Tribes Vengance, Counter Strike Source, Dues Ex Invsiible war and a bunch of other games on my system. Heck I still play MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries almost daily with no problem. So why is Halo not working for me? The install was fast and showed no problems. Then I put on the PC106 patch so I could play online and that seemed to work. But everytime I try and enter a online game or everytime I collect the A.I. off the Pillar of Autumn's bridge at the start of the game it always freezes, minimizes and gives me this warning. When I I finally reboot it always asks me if I wanna send a error report to mircosolf and lists my old 64 megs Radeon vid card as the problem. I don't think there is anything wrong with the card. Like I said I play all those other games on it all the time with no problems. Anyways, to make a short story long anyone ever have the same problem I am having? If so how did you fix it?

not only would it be good to know you computer specs but seeing as how you have all these games on your computer... you ever consider the fact that RAM might be a problem? cuz assumint he average person you have a desktop icon for each game.... all of which use up a wee bit of ram.. but given enough and i can see why your computer would crap itself... but you did say missing device... so lets see those specs

If you have 128MB of system RAM, maybe even 256MB, and the computer has not had a reformat in over a year - you may think about that. RAM gets clogged up by loads of stuff over a year, it can really slow your pc and cause crashes on demanding games.

List the following specs:
(get Everest Home at http://www.lavalys.com if you don't know, you can see complete specs)

CPU (brand, speed)
Motherboard
RAM (speed, amount, dual channel?, etc.)
Video card (brand, memory, model)
Sound card
Hard drive
ETC...

If you can figure it out, go to control panel -> performance and maintainence -> system -> hardware -> Device Manager and check for any conflicts (there will be little yellow warnings in some spots if there are).

I would assume so. I can run all those other newer games on it with no problem and on top of that my card is from about the same time period as Halo.

I also don't wish to turn this into a debate about the pros and cons of weed, but as far as "Why would I?" well I just can't help but think where would we be today if someone asked columbus to find a new route to asia and he said "why would i?" But I don't want to seem like I am being a &#$@ or anything. You are all offering your help freely and I appreciate that, I just wanted to produce the other side of the debate.

Heyyo,

It's got some age onnit, but it should be supported. Dirx, do you have anykindof gamepad or something plugged in? If so unplug it. Infact, unplug anything usb that ain't your keyboard or mouse. It's ok to do this, usb's hot-swappable, so it ain't the end of the world.

Next time that window pops up, click more info, see if there's any hints to where it's having probs..

If it's too confusing, try posting what the more info window pops up, so we can take a gander.

It's not the 7500, i've run Halo on that card before i upgraded. I've even run doom 3 with the ol' 7500
try defragging your HD.
if that doesn't work, try removing the hardware, dumping the system power, then putting it back in. it could be a hardware error, but the likely culprit is a software conflict.
if neither solution works, try reinstalling the OS.
just make sure that your system exceeds all the other reqs for running the game

I uninstalled it and then put it back in and tried it unpatched not sure what I was testing but it didn;'t work. My computer froze as usual, I tired to get the error message when it came out but all it was was lines and lines of code which I couldn't copy and past.
