Hi. I've got a strange quirk happening. I've played Halo for years and upgraded successfully to 1.08 several weeks ago with no problems. Have played every day since and all has been fine.

Last night when I clicked "Get List" in the Internet Lobby (Gamespy list), the list of 550 servers loaded completely in about two seconds. This process normally takes about 15 seconds so I wondered what was up. But then I tried to enter servers and got the "Negotiating connection..." message and eventually a "Could not join game server!" message. I tried about ten different servers with the same result. Rebooted my PC and tried again with no change.

Anyone else experiencing this? Have any idea what's going on? I can see others in the servers so I know it's not happening to everyone. I even rebooted a couple of servers (that I admin) and tried again. Tried it with my Zonealarm turned off. No luck.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

The servers are loading exceptionally fast, but I can join games, so I don't know what to offer you.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Also noticed the insane loading speed, and also got an extended "negotiating server" message, but I joined no problem. Something is different that's for sure.

I'm not sure what's going on at gamespy but the speed the gameserver list downloads is a welcome addition but it doesn't state the ping of the server. I can join servers but it takes a little longer than usual (only a second or so), though I have had a few cases of being stuck on the negotiating connection screen.

Mine loads very quick, but the lack of ping against each server makes finding a suitable game a bit trial and error. And it's not nice (for everyone else) to jump into a game where your ping is > 1000 !!! even if it is only for a second or two.

Does anyone know how to get the ping back on the server list?

I am having the same problem. I thought it was weird that the list was loading so fast, but didn't think anything of it. But when I try to join a server that I was in earlier, I get the "negotiating connection to server" and than it says I can't join, which is funny to me because I was in the server earlier today.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me...but I'm sorry for all to whom it is happening.

Yes, the quick server load is cool but not at the expense of not being able to join any games. If anyone has any ideas what might be happening or how to resolve, please post here. Thanks.

HPC made me redownload the 1.08 patch, and now the pings are gone.

However, I normally use Gamespy Arcade anyway since it has better filtering.

Sucks that it's happening but I'm glad I'm not the only one. Now I can stop these long ass deep scans.

I just bought a new desktop and monitor. Top of the line stuff, and thought to myself : "What better to try out than my old favorite?" Sadly, no dice on getting into any of the servers. I've got 1.08, but I'm stuck with a 'Negotiating The Server' message.

I can verify, another victim of GameSpy over here. Something is wrong with the GS-side network tweak they did, as I check the server list its dropping people like flies. there are no maxed out games, the highest game I see active has 9 out of 16 people. and yes, no ping

I log in, fast server load, endless connection to server followed by failure to connect.

Look, this title may only cost $20 for the majority of people who now play, I however have bought nine copies of this game. I get banned alot for 'cheating' my kill ratios tend to be a 30:1 ratio so tards ban me. I also bought it the day it came out on top of things as well, i believe i paid 49.99. And in the end whether I paid one Andrew Jackson or for nine copies of the game, I deserve for it to work.

So hey, from someone who works for the largest networking company in the world, Bungie needs to give GameSpy a call and kick them in the nads.

I suppose that's it then. Though, I can see the servers, just can't play on some of them. Funny thing is that one I couldn't get into earlier, I can get into now. So maybe the fix is undergoing? let's hope so.

In high definition baby!

I got the same problem with Halo Trial. Haven't checked out the full version of Halo PC yet.

You can access servers directly via the IP, that works perfect, but the lobby sucks - no ping times showing any more, can only actually access a handful of servers, but never the same ones 2 days in a row (weird). This has to be a Gamespy issue - what a pain in the @$$!

I am also having the same issues with xfire alllowing me to directly join a game a friend is in. I cannot fire up Halo and go directly to that game, it requires me to fire it up, go to the lobby, find the game server and try to connect that way - another irritation.

Is this the end of my beloved Halo? Please say it isnt so, 4 years I have worshiped this game, kicked some serious booty and to have it all come to this?

You can direct IP connect :)

Use Gametracker to get to their IP addresses.

That's what we have been doing and all seems well that way.

**Otherwise, we get the same 'negotiating server' message and then cannot connect. Sometimes we get lucky and get in without direct IP but not often.

I've got the gamespy master server error as well. Seems it can only join non-dedis, and once when I tried to join a server I've been playing on forever it say my client was too new for the server. o_0

Recently I've just been using xfire and Hamachi to get onto the servers I play on.

So at least they know Halo is messed up because their hamster fell off the wheel, good. Now we should expect it to be fixed.

GameSpy runs such a professional service. ;)

Each time something goes wrong it seems to take days to fix. I think they need to learn how to use their own systems properly.

Is there any news on this? I can't believe Gamespy has let this go on for more than 10 days now.
