bah

I've noticed quite a bit of disrespect getting dished out in the Underground. I've recieved my fair share of it, but I've been here a long while (it'll be 2 years in 5 more days) and can take it, but some of the , um, "newer members" are getting insulted by the other "newer members." I've always felt that Bungie.net was very open and calm towards "new" members of the community (at least compared to HBO) and am alarmed at this trend. I hate seeing a more knowledgeable "asswipe" beat down a nice "ignorant" person. I think the mods need to take an active scolding policy towards those who are disrespectful towards "newer members." (I have, indeed, seen this in a few cases.) If they choose to do so, we can all help out by pointing out really nasty things that have been said. I liked the close community we had before, when there was a lot of mutal respect going on, and would hate for our current state to degrade even further. (Remember two falls ago? Yeah, that was crap.) At least the Septagon seems be normal, somewhat.

The War will wage forever; though with it's fury comes a peace that you will never know here.

I've also seen new people bash eachother. I doesnt make any sense, especially when a new person bashes a fellow new person about an egg in the game that some people dont know about.

Ignorance isnt bad. In fact, ignorance can keep you out of arguments that could scar you and/or fellow Bnet members' memories forever (remember our experiences with *cough* Neo117... *cough*?)

So, for all you new as well as old people, dont verbally bash people who are ignorant of every tiny aspect and tidbit of Halo!

I started yesterday... Does that mean im "ignorant"???
How can you be "ignorant" for just joining the FORUMS. You don't need to go on forums forever to not be an oober noober...

Starting yesterday does NOT make you an ignorant person. Ignorant is, essentially, ignoring certain, if not all, things and events that are/occur around you. Also, joining forums doesnt make you ignorant!

For example, not paying attention to one person is ignorant, or not listening to a fact about any random thing is ignorant.

As for you talk of 'oober noobers', I'm not touching that with an 800-mile pole, since I cant think up a 'set in stone' definition of noob, newb, n00b, etc.

oober noobers, nice one.
Anyhoo i have seen the disrespecting, and i find it terrible. The idea is,that you share info and try to improve yourself and others. Not to brake the other.
We should all keep our eyes open for these things,

Psh... Kids these days. I tell ya' when I was growing up I was always nice to my elders, now-a-days, it's "Screw you old man!" "Yo' mamma that!".

I stay away from the Underground, it doesn't tickle my facy. I prefer to stay where the higher "intellegance" is, the Septagon. People need to stop using the word "noob" (please don't kill me for using it) it's like getting on Starcraft Battle.net for the frist time, it's horrible. People need to stop falming each other and act civil. Bungie.net Forums have always been very, very good. Sure you get an -blam!- here and there, but other than that the majority of the members are well behaved and seem to enjoy voicing their opions.

I saw that members that precist on being the Flammers (one who starts fights) should have a nifty little strike counter under their name. So that when they get one strike, it's a warning, when they get another a more stern warning or possibily an expuslion for X days, and on third strike, you're gone. I think that would seem rather fair, better than hauling off and blasting their brains all over a wall.

Really people need to grow up, take lessons from other members on how to behave, learn from your Elders, anyone that has been here long enough knows how to act and is always setting an example for new members. Sure we could use ignorience to our advantage, stupid people in masses have HUGE possibilties... heh

My input ends, here.

THree strikes seems like a pretty good idea, but how would they keep track of it. they would probably need to make a visual makr seeable in there profile or some thing like that.

I don't know if a three strike thing is all that good. Once one person get expelled, no one will be inclined to have any kind of debate. What people understand is that there's a very fine line between have a debate and having a flame war. People also don't realize that their flame war does, in fact, effect the other members of the forum as well. So basically, yeah, ignorance is an issue.
I think that a topic should be warned once, then locked upon further intrusion. Not deleted, but locked so that the flamers can see what happened and why. If a member does it enough to be recognized for it, he/she should get a pretty strong warning from someone of some importance, i.e. moderater of the forum, depending on the location of the flame war. If they are again caught flagrantly flaming, then they are banned from the specific forum.

I agree with Yoozel, new players should learn from their elders (or is that Elites?). I'm a noob and try my best to take any advice given to me. It is also the older player's resplonsibility to help the new player. I've spent plenty of time on Battle.net. New players there are absolutely [I]trashed[/] there. I was afraid to ask the simplest questions because I thought I would get abagged on so hard and called noob (which I was). Anyway, I would hate to see Bungie degrade into something like that.

That's all for now, expect to see more of me in the future.

Well, I've been thinking about how to stop this....and I haven't a clue. I was half way through a post to everyone about it, and then decided that it wouldn't do any good. Possibly us "Grizzled Ancients" hehe, I use that loosely, could make a chapter on the 7th Column where we could post for us and have it heavily monitored by all of us. Open to the Public, but monitored well, basically cutting the fat.
I was replying to Stosh today about what Azur said in the forums, and decided not to. Stosh is right, no matter how I feel about it, here's the story:

Azur made a post asking where all of us oldies were, saying that we could show the "newer members" what a real post was. Stosh took this as kind of malicious a statement, I think. I know it wasn't meant like that, so I stuck up for Azur. Well, Stosh is right, everyone would take that as a bash at being new and they would have flamed anything they saw.

Before the new site, we did have a tight community of posters and readers that all respected each other and could jab at each other when need be. But now I feel, and I'm sure some of you do, lost in the "crap" that is going on now. I had a voice and now I am drown out by the squaking flock. I'm not saying this is bad, I am very happy there is such a Bungie community! But, personally, I feel like I've had something taken away. The instant-message posting needs to stop. There needs to be respect. And I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.
So, if you guys wanna start up a chapter to use as a forum, I would enjoy that a lot, or maybe I'll make it, message me and tell me if you'd want to do that.

You are missing out on a lot of funny and interesting topics. Plus you could be helping us control the chaos. I mean you are a moderator, right? Or even if you're not, it would be helpful if you could guide new users and tell them what's cool and what's not. Do you just want to moderate the septagon or something? This forum hardly needs a moderator...Although I guess one dedicated guy couldn't hurt.

Anyhoo do what stosh says( can't believe i actually said/wrote that) and keep your eyes open, send a message to the flamer telling him what he did wrong. A better forum starts with you.

The War will wage forever; though with it's fury comes a peace that you will never know here.

Now I find this very disrespectful: (I found this on the Underground)

Anything in BOLD is notes that I've added.

OK my Biatchez, What the hell?! That's not cool!

here is the lastst skinny on the halo story..... You could've put: WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
before MC finds halo, big battle on a planet called reach. all but 12 out of 150 spartans remain, reach gets glassed over, mc finds Halo, blows it up, finds his girlfriend to be (another spartan- Linda), and 3 marines. they steal a covenant flag ship, they meet up with a group of bad ass rebels that hate earth, and help them, MC and his spartans go blow up a big covie strong point, and take out 500 covie shipsand loose 7 spartans , then they head twords home (earth) after getting a UNSC ship (the one in the announcemt trailer), blow the flag ship up, and then they find thier way home. and thats where the E3 demo takes place. the guys in the drop ship who LOOK like spartans are Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.....bad ass space/paratroopers...... the MCs spartan buddies are somewhere else where they later meet up and go kick ass, they blow up the covenant ship, and clear out the city, and then start on a treck to capture a covenant prophet (leader) while kicking ass along the way.........

if you have the intelectual level like i do, read the books, and find out MORE So, now you're gonna make fun of everyone else's intellect? Raging Fury on you! It's not nice and it's very disrespectful to call others stupid by projecting your intellect at a higher level than others'

Most likely you all noticed it, but one guy down here has been posting alot of useless crap and nonsens, being rude to everyone, and frankly i don't like that! Well i send him a message, saying he should cool down a little, i hope it helps. Not likely.

Actually I'm not a mod, anymore, and/or/if sketch hasn't give me those powers back from when Bungie.net released. If I had the pwoer, I'd probably go over there and help out, but I'd stick to the septagon and the newer rooms. But I just stay away from the Underground unless I need to post something, I do check it time to time, but posts get a little repeative there.

Hm.. we really need a good solution to flame wars, and if we come up with something good, bungie does listen. Look how much stuff we wanted back then to be put into the relaunch, half the stuff I thought would never make it. Sigma has a good idea, but would people take it from Mods? It'd be like, "they're not Bungie, I don't have to listen to them!"....

The mods can't be looking evrywhere and we can't keep bugging those few guys everytime we see something. And under the name of the mod it simply says: member. Perhaps that should be changed to something else. Of course, stosh avatar says moderator, but i don't know, perhaps it should say Bungie employee, just to scare them of.

Stosh and I did try and get someone from Bungie to give us "*This user is not a bungie employee" in our profiles for a little joke, but no go on those. Member should just be changed to Moderator....

People have been listening to us mods. I mean so far I have made like 15 people change their signatures...because either the sig contained an image or because their sig was breaking the forum layout somehow.

Unfortunately, a lot of this disrespect IS going on in the Septagon. I found this passage from a thread in the Septagon that I found today.

"Only the the most hardcore fans come to the septagon. Like Reginko :) bungie fan since day 1. Seriously for me...I try to stay away from the underground, WAY to many no0bs who don't know what they are talking about."

I know some of you may have already seen this, but to me, this sounds like the kind of disrespect that we are trying to stop. I think that if we wnat to clean up the forums, we have to start here first.
