Since there is Xbox Live, there could be downloadable content. Well, maybe 3 or 4 months after Halo 2 comes out, there will be a downloadable patch that allows us to play as Jackals in MP. Now think about it. The main reasons while only Elites and Spartans can be used right now, is becuase they have energy shields, and are roughly the same size. Well, Jackals have energy shields too. And, who said that the Jackals have to be as strong as a Spartan? They can probably only hold one grenade at a time, and one weapon at a time, not to mention that 2 melee attacks kill them, and they can't melee themselves. So why would you want to be a Jackal? Maybe there could be a game type where only Jackals could be used. A Jackal would be in Third Person view. That way, it would be much easier to shoot. The grenade button for the Jackals could be Y, since they can't switch weapons anyway (they only hold one at a time). As for the L trigger, that could be used as a target lock. Meaning, let's say there is a Jackal in front of you. You press the L trigger, and it automatically locks on to it. As soon as you press the R trigger to shoot, The shield automatically moves away and you start shooting. If a plasma grenade is thrown at you, and it sticks to your shield, you could use maybe the white button to throw it at the enemy, so it explodes next to them. So, I don't see why we would need Jackals, since they're so much weaker. But there are those people who still want them, so I just came up with this idea. What do you think?

Plasma grenades don't stick to their shields. They bounce off.

That doesn't sound like fun. I stil think there'll be a class based multiplayer mode. Jackels will have some use, as will grunts, etc. All alien vs all human. Players can choose which class they want to use. They've dropped some hints that give credibility to this theory, but, of course, no one can be sure.

No one can deny the popularity of class based multiplayer ala Team Fortress. It doesn't have to sound good to you, but know that there are plenty of fans out there that want nothing but. It adds some diversity to multiplayer and the ability to specialize in a certain role.

Bungie has said they want to take the experience of the single player and put it online in a multiplayer mode. I don't know what else they could be hinting at since they've already announced online coop.

If you played Halo PC devomode and use the Bump feature you can play as a jackal, and the shield DOES NOT move when you shoot, so you can be shot while shooting.

I'm sorry about this but theres so much wrong with what you just said I dont know where to begin.

Bungie havent confirmed co-op.

They could be hinting at a certain game type where its elite vs. spartans in a campaign like battle thats just my theory though.

No specialised roles, thats just not halo. The whole point is that Master Chief is the best at EVERYTHING. Hes the perfect soldier, no-one betters him in any field so having jackals with shields and brutes with only strength is just plain wrong.

I suggest you go and actually play the multiplayer mode so you can actually realise what it is about.

I personally want to play as the master chief or elite. Not some wimpy little alien with a shield and has all these lock-on features and crap. I think you've been influenced by so many other games that you've forgotten the core feature of halos gameplay.

Actually other spartans r better than chief at certain things in the novel, so what old newb is describing would match with the book

Linda (sniper spartan)
John(all around average)MASTER CHIEF
Sam(Tough guy)
Kelly(sprinter)
Li (martial arts)
Anton(computers AI).....and MANY more

Spartan classes would be cool

You forget that in multiplayer...YOU DONT PLAY AS JOHN. You play as an average spartan fighting against either another group of average spartans or a group of average elites therefore its balanced and simple. Then the victor is chosen by who has the most skill not who had the advantage in a given situation. Doesn't anyone realise that classes and advantages suck!?!?!

You also forgot the fact that the spartans are mostly dead anyway.

well i guess it's all in opinion , i personally consider master chief -john 17 and i believe they may include another spartan ...maybe kelly seeing as in the novel she is stolen and brought back to earth by DR Halsey (spartan Mom)

Who are you to say what is Halo? Bungie has said that the multiplayer in H1 was never what they wanted to do because of time restraints. Just because you'd prefer to have only MC vs Elites doesn't make it so nor does it make it a bad idea nor does the game have to follow rules and stories from the books.

Bungie has also said they want to emphasize TEAMPLAY. A Sparan who is the best at everything detracts from this. Only through the combined efforts of the entire team can the goal be achieved. A coordinated effort from all members of a team to reach victory appeals to me rather than have an incredibly talented person rule the server and do most the of the work by him/herself.

Besides, we already know that there'll be spartan vs elites (which I'd play just as often), would it ruin Halo 2 for you if others enjoyed a different gametype that Bungie thought to include? Do you think that you'd never get bored of MC vs Elites and never want to try something different? Are you that closeminded to believe that Bungie couldn't make a class based FPS fun?

i can imagine playing as a grunt.

"Press and hold X to run away and scream funny line"

u could use y to switch between various lines.

Maybe not a grunt, but Brutes, Hunters, Prophets. You're telling me this wouldn't be cool?

Brute maybe, hunters have an intergrated arms system so they can only have the FRG, Prophets.....well they might be able to run you over in that flying wheelchair, but that's about it. Oh yeah...grunts suck as well. BTW Jackals have a little cut out bit of their shields so they can fire. And, wouldn't it get boring having to crouch everytime to hide behind your shield??? Do the covenant have left/right handed munitions anyway???

You are the MC master of any weapon, pilot of any vehicle, and fear no enemy. In your hands is the fate of the world, and an assault rifle. :)

Grunts and jackels are going to see huge improvements in battlefield viability. Playing a hunter in the flag room could be quite formidable. Also, who's to say there won't be other enemies in the game to use or that prophets won't have some sort of attack or use? Engineers and medics couldn't do much offensively in TF, but they certainly had their uses and were a favourite class among players.

I think it's bad logic to assume that the cov forces will be unchanged from H1 or the books.

Spartan Vs Elites would NEVER get old,. just like now, Spartans Vs. Spartans in H1's MP, i meen seriusoly, its been 3 yrs since halos release and its still the best MP game, thats through mostly lan and limited internet, the class based would be entirly -blam!-, i understand that Bungie didnt want H1's MP to be like it was but look how badass it is, they plan on keeping that way, just makin improvments...and the thing u said earlier old newbie, about one player on the team doin all the work..they guy b4 u, who you replied to was sayin that the MC is a spartan as well, in story..hes one of a kind, like no other..can use all weapons and blah blah blah...but MP its another story, its about skill, not who has the advantage, from class based gameplay, in ne given situation, as Ash put it very well, its all about skill and knowing the level and where weapons lay..skill man, skill

Firstly Halo 1 is old and boring. I'm glad you still love it. The rest was hard to read, I'm not sure I understood it all. I know it's skill, but teamwork is preferable. I'm one of the ones who can completely dominate a server. I'm the one of the ones who gets kicked off servers and accused of cheating. It gets old.

Teamplay is much more satisfying.

TeamFortress was -blam!-. It was made out of 86% -blam!-ness. "Look at me! I can kill a whole buch of people by standing in place and shooting becuase I'm the Heavy Weapons guy!" In Halo 2 it will be more Team-Oriented becuase the guy with the flag can't drive.

It would be fun as hell to play as a grunt though. You hop in a Wathog, and yell "I can't see!"

Jesus. How old are you? That's it for this debate. Clearly, you can't meet me at compatible intellectual level. Anyone that says "It was made out of 86% -blam!-ness." isn't worth the time it takes to even type this.
