I just got this new gateway gaming laptop, and installed halo pc on it. Whenever I run the game, it gives me this error dialogue box that tells me that I don't have enough RAM or virtual memory.

It gives me the option to continue anyway, and the game runs sort of okay. There's some video glitching and artifacts that I did not have on my other XP computer.

My other games on this computer run with no problems, so I'm guessing the glitches may have something to do with the error that pops up when I start the game.

Laptop's specs:
Core2Duo P8400 (2.26 Ghz. / 1066 Mhz. FSB / 3MB L2 cache)
4GB DDR3 @ 800 Mhz.
Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS w/ 512 MB GDDR3
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1

I'm pretty sure vista is what's causing the error message, but I don't know how I can work around it or resolve the issue. Anyone else have ideas?

Try downloading the most recent update for Halo PC.

These issues may occur when using a video card with <256MB RAM.

24 and female.

Your system does not have enough RAM or virtual memory to run the game...
Please close any additional programs that may be running or increase your virtual memory settings. If you wish to add additional RAM, please contact your computer manufacturer for any necessary assistance.

CAUSE AND POSSIBLE RESOLUTION
Halo detects that there is not enough RAM to run properly.

You will be offered a link to http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo/support.asp.

Microsoft recommends: That you should contact your system manufacturer about adding enough RAM to the computer to meet or exceed Halo's box requirement of 128 MB.

But since it looks like you do have enough, I disagree with Microsoft. =P
And I'm not sure if it could be Vista, because I run it on my Vista computer and it works fine.

Does it say you have 0 MB of ram? Ignore it.

I kinda figured that would be it. So there isn't a way around it I guess.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Vista. Do you have the 32 bit version or the 64 bit version?

24 and female.

That could be the problem if it's 64bit. But I have 32, so that could be why mine works perfectly fine.

Freedom has two parts: potential and resolution; as metaphors have two parts : form and interpretation; of course, the two are intertwined. Metaphor lines the road to freedom, as symbols and words are the bricks and mortar of meaning. Freedom being the briocoleus, the mason.

Maybe you should go out and buy some more virtual memory.

Try this, I know it's for XP SP2, but try it anyways.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I get minor graphical artifacts too but I just ignore them.

It doesnt give you an option to just not show the memory message anymore? I get that on my 64bit system but I just checked the box to now show this message again and all is fine.

What are "graphics artifacts". Random things/ messed up textures? In death island, I get tears that show textures of Charon t127 (or what ever it's called), it's the putput map.

Artifacts are glitches in the video (I think).
