A lot of people here make theories regarding Halo 2 according to the books. But we all fail to take in to consideration, that just MAYBE the books aren't the real story. After all, couldn't it be that those authors were so in love with the game that they bought the rights from Bungie to make books of it? And think about it. Why would bungie give the entire story of the game just to one (in this case 2) person? If they really wanted stuff like that published, as their own idea, wouldn't they just have someone from their own studio write it? So, what I'm saying is, that Bungie never said that the books tell the whole story. For all we know, Eric Nylund in himself doesn't even know where Kelly and Dr. Halsey went, he's gonna base that around what happens in Halo 2. So, I'm not saying that this is true, all I'm saying is, if Bungie didn't say so, it isn't nesecerally true.

Bungie said they are the real story. Simple as that. They hired Eric Nylund and William C. Dietz to make the books for them. They had full access to the " Halo Bible " and were guided the whole way as they made the books.

Where and when did they say that? Could I have a link?

I agree with the dual wielding person. If they wanted o have the stories and the game match they would have had somebody from the studios write it. It just makes sense.

Go over to http://halo.bungie.org. That is where I learned the truth. Check around their story page and maybe post something on the forum. Louis Wu and my fellow regulars will be able to help you a bit more than I on this one. But I know it is true. Especially when these words are written onthe books.

" Official story to the award winning Xbox game. " or prequel or sequel where ever it might fit in that title.

Yes, but Hikaru, official story doesn't mean anything really. The Official Xbox Magazine doesn't necesseraly reflect the opinions of Microsoft's Xbox team. As I said, if Eric Nylund bought the rights, it could be considered official, since that is the ONLY prequel to the game, the only one which Bungie permmited. Bungie is still free to do whatever they want. If they want to, they can have Kelly right back with you, with no explanation of how she got there. They don't owe Eric Nylund anything.

To further prove my point, the books aren't always equivalent to the game. For example, they say a Spartan can run 100 meters in 4 seconds. We couldn't do that in the game. The books also say the a Spartan is capable of dropping from outer space onto a planet and survivng. In the game, we couldn't survive a 20 meter fall!
Something else is that the manual WAS written by Bungie, meaning that everything it says is DEFINITELY right. Well, the manual was written as if by the military. Notice how the Flood, Brutes, etc. aren't mentioned, because "the military" doesn't know about them yet. But they have a full description of an Elite. How is that possible, if, according to the books, only MC, James, and Linda, ever saw an Elite before Halo? And even that wasn't really too well, Linda was only revived after Halo, and James died. So, only MC could tell the military the specs of an Elite, but he was frozen for the trip! I would take the manual as being correct and a priority over the books.

It said in the books (well First Strike at least) that Bungie worked with Eric Nylund.
The Covenant were seen at Harvest in 2525, the game takes place in 2552, a lot can happen in 27 years.

Find me where it says that. Oh, and by the way, if it turns out that the books weren't true, it would be hilarious, because it would mean that Bungie found a way to distract us from the real story line (thus not letting us guess their thoughts) and at the same time make money.

Look Bungie said the books were the official story. Period. If Bungie says it is the story, then it is the story. You can not argue with the makers of the game for they know all about it. Also they gave permission for all the books to be made, not just one. Otherwsie those other two never would have hit the shelves due to Bungie and their law suit threats.

Not only that the manual was written a long time before the game was even finished. Bungie even made some changes in the story along the way. Hence there being a few innacuracies here and there. Also the Spartan capablities. They have to make the game some what believable. You don't have to do that with a book which has so much more freedom for ideas.

Finishing off. The books are official, Bungie made them so, now get over it.

I agree with u Bungie wanted to tell us the Story even more and go into it more so they don't need to do that in Halo 2. So they give the Story and stuff so the Authors just put it together and describe stuff.

ok it SAIS IN THE FREEGIN COVERS OF THE BOOKS" THE OFFICIAL PREQUAL, SEQUAL (WHATEVER) TO THE AWARD WINNING XBOX GAME"

bungie said long ago when the first book came out (on the old B.net) that the books were the official story and all the stuff that the writers say is the exact story and that the writers were being told (sort of) what would be in the books, the writers just wrote it, also they didnt just buy the rights to the franchis, for one thing that woould cost more then the average author could afford, fpr another they were asked to write the friggin books, read an interview with C.n. that happened long ago, he said that he was told to write the book

if any old writer could buy some rights and write a book we would have like 90000000 (estamation) halo books

Bungie directly corelated (spelling?) with Eric Nylund and that Truatmen or whatever his name is guy when it came to righting the books. Bungie gave them the raw info, and they prettied it up and made stories. like for example: there obviously had to be some sort of base for the marines, and there obviously had to be attacks on the base, just like in the Flood. So, you probably will still say how do you know, but there have been quotes from Bungie as well as. The fact that you are so disbelieving worries me, as everybody knows the books are official tie ins...
