I have a question, if this expansion features ODST's doesn't that mean that they'll have to change many things in the game? i.e. jumping physics, melee damage, shields, etc?? because the ODST's aren't exactly super soldiers.....

Yes, it does. But I do recall that there was a rumour that Bungie was working on a squad-based tactical shooter set in the Halo universe. It was supposed to be much bloodier, and less cartoony. This could be it. You'd need to be a lot more tactical because you wouldn't have shields or the Master Chief's ability to shrug off a lot of physical damage. Nor would you be able to jump around like a crazy person or take out enemies with a single punch.

I'm thinking of a cross between the Halo we know and love and Gears/GRAW.

couldnt they just change the atributes and appearance of the character you are playing..?

  • 09.26.2008 3:21 PM PDT

I think so, like with Team SWAT plus a new ODST skin. It wouldn't be hard to do (I think - not trying to devalue your work here, Bungieites!), but you definitely couldn't just have "ODSTs" running and gunning just like the MC.

Wait a second, maybe this wouldn't be that hard to do. Maybe Bungie has had this finished since launch, but they deliberately held it back so they could nickel and dime us for DLC! They've probably been doing nothing but sitting on their backsides for the last year! Those -Blam!-s! I mean it's 'only' an expansion, right? You just click a few buttons and it's done, right? Luke could probably have done it after a heavy night of tequila drinking and an unfortunate accident involving losing both arms in a wood chipper, right?

Just kidding of course, but it's only a matter of time before someone seriously suggests that this is the case.

  • 09.26.2008 3:50 PM PDT

but once they did something like that would they have to make the campaign creatures weaker or less in number..because remember ODST soilders are alot weaker...and would die in an instant making it impossible to finish on legendary

  • 09.26.2008 4:15 PM PDT

True, but maybe that's why it's a squad-based game. The MC can take on hordes of brutes on his own, but ODSTs have to work in teams to achieve the same thing.

Just speculating (and hoping).

in the teaser trailer (0:20) on the lower right it says: MBARAKI.2552

MBARAKI.2552... name of city and year?

discuss...

  • 09.26.2008 4:49 PM PDT

Mbaraki is a naval port in current day Mombasa. All of the names you see from the different camera angles are different parts of Mombasa.

One of the emergency signs clearly reads City of New Mombasa, so that's definitely the city.

  • 09.26.2008 4:56 PM PDT

guys Its NOT an expansion campaign!!!!
there was a little popup on halo showing where to download the trailer and it says our new game...

Yea but then again, it could mean anything. IT could just say Halo 3 because it's a multi system console, and they want others who don't own xbox anything to know who bungie is.

It could be a tie in to Halo 3, it could be a new threat in the game. There are a lot of things it COULD be. As of this moment, I wouldn't go assuming it's anything other than a project that bungie's been working on. When it first hit marketplace, it said campaign under the download summary. So there ya go.

The problem is, if it is not a campaign update, then what is the reason of putting Halo 3's title in the trailer? There has to be some direct connection to the game. Maybe they are doing two things, such as a campaign expansion and a new game. Who knows.

I'm no expert in the halo universe but if i remember correctly the first Spartans were ODST's volunteering to get there DNA corrected or something along those lines. So maybe if they do a new game or an update about a squad based shooter, they could be using them.
Assuming there all alive and well and not dead cause i know some of them later in there life suffered from mental illness or something.

also in another note i was watching the video again and if you remember the scene where SI, i think it is, says "Maddie, where are you?"
it also says real quickly not in this order though
"yellow means yield"
"road closed"
"expect delays"
"obey our post limit"
"final notice: Bill past due"
"pardon our dust"
and most importantly "danger flood zone"

and just before this scene its in Japanese or Chinese or some sore of Asian language don't know if this has something to do with that game thing happening in japan.

wait i just watched it again it says it in all the different languages

"Of course not, because that would be too conveinient!"

My final take on this all is this (and I have not read through this thread's entirety):
ODST's are sent into to city to help fight the covenant off (the initial wave we see with 100+ drop pods) just as the ship is going into slip space in the city. After all the ODST's are dead from the slip space wave thing, the slow poke character (possible a spartan) lands. This person is that last drop pod at the end of the clip that seems to land on the camera. The whole game is played as this character trying to get out, and fighting the remaining covenant in the city, all alone, with the help of the superintendant.

Please respond to this, otherwise I'll be thinking that is probably it. So if you have any info that contradicts this, please say it.

I have been reading through the thread hoping i'm not stating what might already be said, but I just want to be clear on where everyone stands on the "Click here for full story" link. I'm assuming it's a transmission that was retrieved when the Superintendent was 'rebooting', and it's taking place during the "Keep it Clean" trailer. It's obvious to me that [DARE.V.500341(S1)] is the lone drop pod that made it to Earth and is communicating with [SMN.ACTUAL] - (A.K.A. Heavy Cruiser "Say My Name")who is and admiral of a ship that is now chasing the Prophet of Regret's ship and attempting to "shoot it in the ass". S1 was inquiring as to where his squad of NCO's (Non-commisioned officer) are. The admiral said he would comply if he survived and then S1 replied "See what I can do.". Very interesting. Next the Superintendent posted another transmission, this one being accessed BY S1 at a "terminal?". The transmission is from Prowler "Tokyo Rules" A.K.A. COMM.DUTY.OFFICER and takes place shortly after the Prophet of Regret's ship is leaving Earth. The transmission is between the Comm.Duty.Officer and the Superintendent AI. The Comm.Duty.Officer is trying to reach somone named Kinsler but the AI is too damaged to comply. Fearing a core corruption, the Comm.Duty.Officer requests for the past 24 hours of data but the AI doesn't comply. The Comm.Duty.Officer tells the Superintendent that a "team" is on the way and to re route all comms through the CDO.

Wooh, what a mouth full..But wait, there's more!

The Superintendent scrolled a 10 digit code while posting randomely on these forums for 2 days prior to the Pardon My Dust and Keep it Clean threads. By replacing every letter in "Keep it Clean" with a number (Excluding the last N for some reason), leaving a 10 digit code.

I have one question and it would be nice to have some help.

Where does this code go?...

(re-editing) The Superintendent's posts from oldest to newest spells the code 4300081170. The Superintendent's first posts were cryptic copys of dialogue about banning over naked ladies on file share and something about taking forum pics? Very weird.

ok well here we go. 4300081170 the first one that DEFINITELY stands out is 117 that would be MC's number remember at the end of H3?

second would be 43 4+3=7 bungie's favorite number

The N being excluded could be a clue also it is the 14th letter of the alphabet. which is 7x2=14
Feel free to do away with this idea, it's late here and I've confused myself thinking about it. I'm not sure what the 0008---0 are for though.

I'm not too sure on how the code should be interpreted by combining it with math. It's simpler than that...Iv'e been looking over Halo3.com to see if theres anything I can put a 10 digit code into.

If mt memory serves me correctly the S1's (SSgt Avery Johnson at the time) were the first phase of super soliders, but they didn't have any special armor. I don't know if they ever pickup armor along the line, if that's the case it's completely plausible that they are former S1 ODST or an elite echlon of ODST.

you're obviously not ;)

spartan II's were kids who were abducted from their homes and replaced with flash clones that died soon after because of defects.

spartan III's were orphans who's parents had been killed by the covenant.

Before the spartan program however, they tested the mjolnir armor on some ODST's. It was pretty, when they tried moving their arms they did so with too much strength with made the armor bend their arm back so much it broke .. most of them died.

I'm not so much using math as just trying to find the connections in the code. So far those are the only connection I've found, but I could be and I think I am way off. We'll just need to wait and see what happens next.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Wow! Not many new posts since I left...
Well I suddenly came to think of one thing. Does anyone know how many cruisers Regret brought with him to earth? Cause Cheif blew up one, and another jumped into slipspace.
Perhaps there are more ships left? "The first Carrier completly ignored us, headed strait to earth" (or maybe thats the one MC "killed"?).
Or is it possible that the only enemies in this game are "stranded" Elites and grunts etc? Not much for an exiting mission...

Keep it clean, well thats the story, wiping out the remaining, but still pesky Grunts. (joke)

EDIT: Just played through Cairo Station, they say it quite clear. Fifteen ships, two Capital, and thirteen cruisers. Some of them stayed at Earth then.

Has anyone noticed that the Bungie Logo int the top Left corner of this screen changes for a split second? Does any know what it turns into? I've seen it a couple of times but not long enough to make it out?! I say it kinda looks like that Circle head guy that appears in the New Trailer...I really don't know so if anyone knows what it is...I would love to find out....just PM me!

Thanks for your time,
