I am reserving judgment until I see the real game, but yeah. I kinda figure its going to be a letdown. Age of Empires 3 was awful and the same people are making wars...... If Bungie was doing it the odds would be much more in their favor but I just dont have much confidence in a studio that hasnt put out a good game for quite a while and is now being shut down.

This is very true... you put it rather harshly but I like it! Ensemble has a history of producing remarkable games, but lately they have been slipping quite a bit. I can only hope they have listened to Bungie's guidance with Halo Wars. I'm predicting something very similar to C&C3 for 360 with a Halo twist. It sounds like fun, but who knows yet, lol just the designers.

If nothing else I'm looking forward to the story that is to be unfolded with the release of Halo Wars. I hope the SI has something significant to do with all of these new ideas and novels and titles coming out in the Halo universe

Halo: The Cole Protocol will be the sixth novel set in the Halo Universe. Tobias S. Buckell, author of Crystal Rain and Ragamuffin will pen the novel, which reveals the location of the Spartan Gray Team and “takes readers into an unexplored conflict of the Human-Covenant War where unlikely alliances are formed and shattered…”

Bungie expatriate and Microsoft’s Franchise Development Director Frank O’Connor had this to say on the upcoming book, which is slated for a Fall 2008 release, “Buckell continues an excellent tradition that’s now a solid aspect of the Halo novels, bringing a fresh new perspective to a limitless universe and bringing his prodigious writing talents to bear in ways that will surprise and engage fans of the series and newcomers alike.

i think that the thought of a new game is slightly possible but not likiely.....bungie still has halo 3 and with the release of a new update they have plenty to do, and the last thing they need to worry about is another game....but im not saying that totaly out, and it would be pretty awesome of them

Frankly, I don't see what the new book has anything to do with what Bungie is doing right now. They would not create all this hype for a mere update, and since it's still going, after the revelation of the achievements, it means something else.

Spartan 1.... so excited... "it'll take a genuine act of god"... "I'll see what I can do"... so frickin' baddass..... You know, I'll admit, this really is my favourite part of the game. As painful as it is, the experience of waiting on baited breath for more scraps of info on Bungie's next project lasts so much longer than the game. For me that is. When I finish the game it's like the experience that started two or three years prior has come to an end. The actual game play is only 10 or so hours of the actual experience. This is my new Christmas... Jesuse, i need to walk away from my xbox for a while.... CARP! Fable 2 is coming out soon...

hah.. Nice one. Yes, Fable 2 is coming out soon, but that has nothing to do with this.

A Halo MMo would be pointless.
There'd be no real power-ups you could get and use
No point for any type of Mana system because there are no powers
The fact that no spartan has a face rules out that the second picture in the link above is real
Why would you want to run around as a Marine or Spartan in a jungle using some sort of fabricated "mob attack" on grunts, eliets, jackals, hunters, brutes, drones, and flood because they can't create a whole new race and add it in as an enemy.
The Halo vehicles would be pointless.
Etc., etc., etc....

Jumper, I think you might be jumping the gun with the conflict at Reach. Hell, we don't even know if S1 stands for Spartan One or not yet (although I think it's pretty safe to assume). Humans were still using Archer Missiles at the end of H3, so it could pretty well take place at any point in the Halo time line.

Bungie has said that the Halo story arc was finished, but that it didn't necessarilly mean that there would be no more games with Master Chief... who was a Spartan 2 (that's where i was going with this... sorry, tired, not focused, going off on tangents far to easilly). We met the Spartan 3's in Ghosts of Onyx, and now with S1 making an appearance does this mean we will be introduced to the Spartan 1's?? Is this conflict something from the past, or has whatever MC was addrift found its way to wherever S1 was holed up?

I'm going to say it again, So excited.

It's entirely possible that S1 could mean Spartan 1, but in the books S1 means section one of ONI as stated previously by many other members. So as there is a slight possibility that it could mean Spartan 1, it is highly unlikely.

URSCREWED, I know you're wrong...

For one, the information you've just shared with us has been posted multiple times starting more than 100 pages earlier in the KEEP IT CLEAN thread. That goes beside the fact that, yeah, we all already know...

Also, the thought of a new game is nearly absolute. Nearly the entire Bungie fanbase/Halo community has agreed on this fact. Yes, Bungie still has Halo 3, but what does this mean?

After releasing Halo 2, Bungie admitted they had been working on the title since a mere two weeks after the release of Halo:CE

A similar scenario followed the release of Halo 3, Bungie said they had begun development on the game two weeks after the release of Halo 2.

With the release of the new update, Bungie has nothing to do. They have obviously been working tirelessly to get the new update up and running (evidence shows on the webcams) especially after their big announcement was pulled... they needed to redeem themselves to some extent. Now all their effort to announce their new project is already done, the studio is simply waiting for the right time to release anything to the media.

The KEEP IT CLEAN and PARDON OUR DUST threads are doing their job perfectly... getting everyone in a hype for things to come. Just like ilovebees for Halo 2 and Iris for Halo 3

Actually, we've all been pretty sure that S1 stands for ONI Section 1.. Just putting that out there; that was the general consensus. I talked about the archer missile pods because that was a direct line from The Fall of Reach. Well, pretty much. If it was in a later book, when the Chief actually became big, then the Admiral would not have recklessly wasted all those pods. He would have taken down the shields one way or another, then done a full-on assault. That's what I mean.

Not true.
Bungie could be doing this to totaly mess with our minds.
And be announcing the new book's release.
And it's not 'just a book'.
If you say that then you are probably only into the fact that you can "grab teh sniperz and go BOOM HEADSHOT!!!" -.-

And what evidence do you have to back this up? Has Bungie ever messed with our minds to release a book? No. Have they ever done this for a game? Yes. Twice. So, to use the scientific definitions, for this to happen for the book, just once, it would be a miracle. Twice, for the games, which was Halo 2 & 3, is a coincidence. But 3, which is happening right now, is a pattern. This is a pattern, and it is Bungie's next game.

It's best if you search it on Wikipedia. Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ombudsman

Basically, ombudsmans are in Babylon 5, a separate series. (Television) They are also in real-life, as people who take people's straight-up thoughts of something in consideration to make it better. Almost like a.. BETA!!! Oh geez.. Beta tests are meant to be used to take our advice on what to make better..

I'm not saying this is for sure.. But it sure as hell seems possible. =D

Given that Bungie had something BIG for E3 that got pulled I think its safe to say they have been working on a game for a while now, its the only thing they would have been bringing to E3. I would say chances are over 90 percent that whatever they are announcing now was whatever they had to pull from E3

What I have to back it up is that fact that you see writing of the battles like this in the books.
And Bungie may be into patterns but that doesn't mean it still can't be the book.
No definite ARG has been release that has anything to do with a game so you can't say this is the new ARG.
This is to get us to think.
And i think it's the new book OR a new game.
I never said it couldn't be a new game by the way, i was saying that, to me, this relates more to the books.
