Nobody has answered this question yet, is it possible that it really has no benefits?
"Don't get me wrong, I like the new update, and us gamers (noobs, and skilled alike) are lucky that bugie is still updating halo 3, however can someone please explain to me the potential benefits/advantages to decoupling the Symbol ranking from the True Skill level. I am not exactly sure what great benefits it has, or for that matter why they thought that this idea was good enough to be a part of the update. Just wanting to hear what people think, also congrats to bungie and the update its great."
I think they did it to remove some of the motivation for cheating. For anyone with half a brain they know that the 50 (which will still be there for the ranked playlists) means more than the symbol. The miliraty ranks became a status thing and trueskill is meant to keep the games competitive. By decoupling the symbol and trueskill they can reduce some of the trueskill manipulation that was taking place just to get a shiny symbol.
