Well, there are many factors about this and here ish the way I see it:
1: Screen looking on a small or semi-medium T.V. is not cheating. Your eyes just can't help it.
2: Constantly looking at someone's screen is definitley cheating. My friend Austin does it. That is why he got second place in the Halo tournament and I got third. Cheating bastard!
3: Occasional glances are allowed but they have to be OCCASIONAL
4: There ish no excuse to be screen-watching on large T.V.s. Unless you are a big cheater, like my friend Austin.

That is just my way of seeing it. It's not like it's all that right.

OKAY, I CHEAT.... but only because man was made to cheat, all the way thro althetics (for the past..umm 400 years..i think). ppl have been cheating. using drugs and permfomance enhancing thingys to win.
A mans brain can win in chess, by thinkin 4 moves ahead. In halo, if u screening the others persons screen for movement and sniperin positions, and weapons pick up. Ur stayin 33 moves ahead, keepin urself alive and wining, now thats not cheating, thats human surivial baby!

I think it is cheating. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but when I do it with out meaning to, I just let the person who is about to kill me kill me.

I myself have a friend who sits with a sniper rifle fully loaded and he gets on top of sidewinder it's so annoying. I still kill him even if he watches my screen. he said i cheated cause i saw him up there. plus he shot at me (obviously you can see were the sniper shot came from.) So, i agree screen looking is cheating

Screen Looking is an unconcious habit. WE ALL DO IT! It just can't be helped. What you need to concentrate on is making it dificult to identify where you actually are, like by looking at the ground, and avoid looking at locator items, like weapons, powerups, bushes, or even base colors in BG. It makes looking at your screen utterly fruitless.

this is retarded, of course its not cheating... either do it as well, or dont bother playing. you are sitting side by side w someone and youre not gonna look? who cares. if you whine about your opponent seeing you then play PC... its part of the game, always has been. if you complain about me looking at your screen ill punch you.

This is to The Tree. why would you want to hide behind a tree because you can get shot in the back. Yes I do think screen watching is cheating. Because when I go to play Halo at my friends house their neighbor comes over and looks at everyones screen. IT DOESNT HELP HIM BECAUSE IM TOO GOOD!!!!!!!

I never screen watch, last time I did it was about 2 1/2 years ago, like 6 months after it came out. I got mobbed by my friends and never did it again.
You can't qualify looking at a team mate's screen cheating, so I don't cheat. :)

In my opinion, it essentially is cheating. However, if you are playing across the same screen, like with only two people, then it is almost impossible not to look, and for me, in one on one's it just is a fast track to fighting. Having said that in LAN matches it is totally cheating, also just in any match with more than two people. Often if you try to look at someone's screen you lose track of your own, and if you attempt to track all your enemies movements you end up getting killed. All in all screen watching is a bad thing, and no matter how tempting it may be will all must show restraint, and when playing LAN or system link you should be shot if you give in to the temptation.

You know the joy of owning 4 XBoxes? If we are playing small games (1 on 1 through 4 on 4) we all have our own screen or half a screen.(as long as you put teammates on the same screen) As a matter of fact that's how I proved my friend Nick was screenwatching..

Everytime we would play on the same screen, he seemed to be really good. We were squeaking matches, damn near tying. Well, I went into the kitchen, and left him in the living room, and closed the door and turned down my sound. I beat him 25 to 3. Then 25 to 4, then 25 to 2. I asked him where his skills were now that he couldn't see the screen, and he got mad and left.

So if you want a way to tell how good your skills REALLY are - play on different screens...
Don't cheat and screenwatch - It makes you suck...

I will only say that screenwatching isn't cheating IF and only IF, someone can play a SP Campaign, and have the nearest enemy's view on Picture in Picture...

screen watching is cheating, no doubt about it, it wrecks all your tactics when your sniping spot or posiion is found, also annoying if your trying to whack som1 in the back and they see you chasing them. use the motion tracker and knowledge of the map to find your friends

Aren't you good enough to kill someone without hiding. GET SOME SKILL PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes it is cheating of the lowest and cheapest form if you have to cheat to win u havent won!

Its not cheating if both parties have an equal chance of doing and succeeding.

Sorry, for all the submissions, but this was just easier.

Rookie, stop taking up room on here that you don't deserve to take up. Sorry for calling you Rookie, it was just easier than Rookrautie (what kind of name is that???) Just using your own words. 6 posts in a row? Seriously man, get out of here. The reason you don't deserve that much room is that you don't have the brains not to do it. The people that deserve too have the brains not to do it. Another reason that you don't deserve it is because you're going to get owned on Halo 2 on XBL. Sorry, screenwatcher, you're gonna have find another way to win besides cheating.

I apoolgized for using that much space, there was too many topics to reply too.
I own at LAN parties all the time when my opponents are in other rooms.
You wanna talk about using brains... here is some logic for you. Cheating is using a tactic that is unavailable to anyone else. When 2 - 4 people are playing on the same screen, everybody has the same chance and availability to screen watch. I don't need it to win, but I will not whine when others use it. If they use it against me, its my own fault for not using it against them. I think instead of telling me that I have no brain power you should first get mad at Bungie for making the game the way they did. If you want to whine to anybody, don't some crying to anyone about your inability to beat someone on the same screen. Whine to Bungie. I will not get owned in H2.

Ok, bottom line: SCREEN LOOKING IS CHEATING
You can't deny that the fact of being able to look at ur opponents every move by looking at both ur screen and theirs isn't cheating. But, you have to admit you're being lazy. There are things you can do about this, like mentioned before:
1. Put an object down the middle of the screen, like cardboard, or a blanket, when playing on one xbox.
2. If you're playing on a big, i mean BIG screen, just resist the urg to look. It's ok if you accidently see theirs every once and a while, but I mean, if it's a big screen you CAN help it.
3. Just buy a second Xbox, or have a friend bring his over, get a LAN game going.
4. Allow everybody to cheat. I believe this one to be the worst one, but if you like to do it, and ur friends/bros/sisters/whatever like to do it too, than just have be allowed. Like an every man for himself match.
-There you have it, the solutions to maybe 80% of all ur problems-

ooooohhhhh dear im sorry if this sounds a lil rash but anyone who has said that sceen looking is cheating has not played the halo multiplayer to the full extent that is possible. All this crap about it being cheating is nonsense. let me guess what happened all you whiney rookies, you one day decide to look on someone elses screen just to check on their health and WAP! ya get i crunch in the back of the skull as a reward from another player and decide never to do it again (not observant enough shudda seen him comin). i keep hearin the same old crap over and over on this thread and the is NOT AN EXCUSE "observing an opponents every move by looking at both ur screen and theirs is cheating" ok, what the hell is this about this is not an excuse not to creen look it just states the obvious. ok for all you yaps heres how it is, screen looking is not cheating it is a more complicated style of play. if you guys dont want someone looking at your screen go buy a link cable and stop crying at your friends that they are cheating as bluntly put they are more skilled than you and should not be denied because you cannot screen look ( LEARN ).

Now after insulting everyone, i shall defend screen looking. alll you kids who instantly write it off as cheating, have you ever played a game of halo that you screen looked? no im not talkin about simply looking where they are on a map such as sidewinder. i mean reacting to every move your opponent makes as they react to every move you make. with a skilled opponent or 3 matches become long tactical games of gore and violence that could only be compared to chess only more complicated and less pieces, and more guns ect. kids if you dont know the joys of sceen looking a suggest you try it out as matches become so much more involving as you take into account hundreds of factors such as the gradient of which your oppenent stands the amount of grenades he has, ammo, direction he is facing, position, guns in his arsenel, guns he is near, pickups that are near and a thousand other things including your own situation. simply put kids its harder to be good at screen watchin than it is to be good at just runnin around lookin at your own screen.

However im not sayin that screen watchin should always be done. i defend screen watchin as a style of playing halo in its own right for expert players however their are many situation where screen watching is not necissary or is cheating. LAN games with seperate teams on different computers is one instance of this. games where it has been agreed that their will be no screen watching ( as fun as screen watching is it is nice to have a change once in a while however vice versa ) umm their are other situations but this post is rather long as it is so im sorry if i offended anyone but i feel strongly on this point so if you dont screen look now learn and i mean learn properly, its one thing to take a glace at your oppenents screen but its another to outwit him as he attempts to outwit you using the information at hand as matches become intrecate battles of the mind where skill is determined by how fast you think and observe.

I am an acomplished gammer myself and I belive the answer depends on the sercumstance.
If I'm playing my brother on the same screen it would not bother me if he looks on my TOP [I'm always first player] Then i would acept it because I belive it's an important part of gamming. Hell if the player is new he won't need to look because he or she can't tell which part of the map your on anyway. If the gammer was a little more acpirianced he or she would know that they should be concentarting on thier own game [or with thier teams game if it's a LAN party]. So no I don't think 'sceen watching' is wrong or in anyway cheating.

I would Like to add that if your too stupid to be aware of your surroundings you shound NOT BE PLAYING HALO OR ANY MUTI PLAYER GAME FOR THAT MATTER. As a gammer you should know that it would be wise to focus on whats happening. It's not like you are going to be looking for a long time for a player on any level. Even the biggest multi player level on Halo is not big enough for any one to sneak up on you . QUIT WINING ABOUT WHAY YA' LOSE GET BETTER AND PLAY SOME HALO .
