Damn, this is a good thread, me and my friends are always playing Halo, and we are always accusing of each other of "screen looking" and call each other, obviously, "screen lookers", it's actaully pretty funny when you look back at it, knowing that you are sitting there yelling at the top of your lungs at your friends cause you think they looked at your screen.....
But yea, i think it is cheating.

No. Its more like stratay, for instance in war, you try do everything to get an advantage. Same here. I -blam!- can't spell...

It's not cheating unless you're having a LAN party (meaning you have more than one Xbox and more than one TeleVision) Screenlooking is just like using your radar in the lower left corner, if you're say on Slayer in Blood Gulch and you can't see anybody well radar gives that person away just like screenlooking. We rarely play 4 vs 4 one TV + Xbox though, we stick to LAN with different floor and different room play. But back to the main point, if it's in the game use it, and if you don't like it... welll suck it up princess.

I've always believed that it depends on circumstances.

1) In a Free-For-All NO screen looking is allowed. If you play as much as I do, you can tell every subtle difference in every inch of a level. This gives you too precise a reading on where your opponent(s) are.

2) In a Team game, you may only watch your team player(s)' screens. (Also, another rule applies: both teams must agree that this activity is OK.)

3) As far as ethics go, and abiding by the spirit of how the creators intended the game to be played, there should be NO SCREEN LOOKING UNDER ANY AND ALL CICUMSTANCES; but, seriously, who wants to abide by that?

which is why I'm really happy that Halo 2 supports 16 XBOXs with 16 TVs,
if you're lucky enough to have that many friends with XBOXs.

I keep my Xbox at my friends house with his so we can have linked play. Both him and his little brother screen look like no other. Whenever I complain about this they always yell "Screen lookers for life!" I get so agitated but I keep playing. Even though they do this ( I do not) I still match them in skill. But when it comes to one on one and they have their own TV and radar is off, I totally own. This shows that screen looking is an unfair advantage for the player doing it and can not be used to measure one's true skill. So to all you screen lookers, F@#$ OFF!

I try to avoid "screen looking" (screen cheating where i come from) but on one TV it's dam near impossible at LANs i never look at another players screen, even if their looking at myne, its just ethics i suppose, but you should try not to look at another players screen... It adds to the experience of kicking to **** out of a stupid n00b when you find him without looking on their screen :)...

Not to be egocentric or anything but i can kick any of my friends butts at halo. Screen looking is for beginners. For the types like me, where would the challenge be if i screen looked. It's so cheap.

  • 08.08.2004 10:03 PM PDT

How ya goin?

well of couse it is i mean y wouldnt it be
your looking at their part of the screen seeing where they are
i only let people off when there is no radar(cause i look when there is no radar)
plus people compliane and whine and go HEY you screen cheated in a real pathetic voice and my simple reply is that THERE IS A FRICKEN RADAR THERE TO SEE WHERE YOU CAN SEE OTHER PEOPLE, IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED I HAVE BEEN PLAYING HALO FOR LONGER THAN YOU AND I KNOW WHAT TO DO! and thats what i say so yea

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

I don't really find screen looking a problem. Sneaking up usually doesn't work except on newbs, and anyway, if your looking at your screen you aren't watching your own. It's usually not worth it unless A: there is someone camping your respawn with a sniper or B: someone has your flag and you don't know where they are. In the first case they deserve it, and in the second case your probably doomed anyway. And if you are just going to give up your flag than you are even stranger than me.

After reading a few more posts I do agree that it is cheating at LAN parties, but I don't get how it's cheating to look at your allies screens. It's often faster than asking them, and less likely to alert you enemies if he was about to snipe or something of that sort. I still think that it's usually too dangerous to take your eyes off your screen except on big maps with vehicles. If your just running across the map then go ahead. Even if someone is sniping your probably not going to save yourself. Most of the time you'd be alerted by a missed shot anyway.

QUIT IT WITH THE EGO PEOPLE!!!!
It seems like every other post in here says "Screen looking is for noobs. If you do it you suck and I can kick you butt without it because I am a pro."
If you are good at the game, then good for you. But don't brag on a forum where you'll NEVER have to back it up. You cound like a fool with the spelling errors and bad grammer (My version wasn't entirely representitive in that aspect) and don't add anything to the thread. So, unless you have something useful to post, JUST USE THE POLL!

I agree, however stealth kills using the multiplayer screen looking technique can be done on some of the most experienced screen lookers by simply not looking at your target untill you are too close and then CRUNCH! its hard to do as you kinda have to look at the floor or sky but if you do get a stealth kill it makes it an utter humliation against veteran screen watchers due to it being so hard to do. all this tuff talk goin down around here, we may yet see whos good when halo 2 comes out hey if you actually belive you are good you should check out www.bloodgulch.com its a reality check, you arent very good at all, ADMIT IT!
