No way, it's not a disc I load into my 360 and then play. I didn't know it was, in fact, a video game.
sarcasm? ignorance? i'm not sure how to respond to this.
Refer to my previous post if you really want to understand something about the community and the sheer innovativity (if that's even a word..) of the games. CE captured a generation, Halo 2 has, Halo 3 has.
i'm not here to argue the community or the success of Halo games. i'm arguing that bungie should rethink the way they release information about their games, so they don't come across as pricks to their fans. the whole "hypemachine" thing you spoke of earlier has no relevance either because they could maintain just as much hype by telling us info rather than tiny tidbits and turning their backs. just look at the whole "bots coming to halo3" fiasco that occurred recently. Instead of telling us immediately that it was just something they threw together, they ended up letting us debate the possibility of bots for weeks before they shut it down, ultimately being a huge disappointment to the fans.
also i think the word you were looking for is "innovation".
Here we are. You wouldn't have made an account, much less made posts, if you weren't drawn by the constant enigmas.
i'm drawn here because i love halo (and it's sequels) and because, like the rest of you, i'm hungry for information about the new maps and future games that bungie makes. are the enigmas you speak of the lack of answers? if so, that's what disappoints me the most about bungie. if you look at most game developers, you'll see that they are more than happy to answer the questions of fans with straightforward information. that, and they don't tease things that lead to wild speculation without setting things straight from the start.
Obviously Bungie doesn't come off as pricks to their fans, lol. I don't see where you get this from. When decisions are made, people will agree or disagree, that goes for pretty much anything. The decision to tease us with snippets and soundbites is to leave is ravenous for more, getting us excited and keeping us wondering about it.
Straight answers don't accomplish that. What they accomplish is "oh, cool, I know exactly what's going on, so there's nothing else to think about besides the release date."
That, my friend, is why people come back for more. The marketing strategy, the hype machine, etc., keeps us returning. And returning. And returning.
Wild speculation gets people excited, and also, as you've no doubt seen in countless threads, brings people together. I can't say if that's Bungie's aim with the teasing and all, but it accomplishes just that. We share our ideas, we share our speculations, and give each other theories based on what we're given, and what little hidden messages are in said given things.
The SI and the newest trailer are prime examples. When the SI first made an appearance, not just forum posts, people went nuts.
The new trailer, within minutes countless threads were made, countless speculations..Well, speculated. Different sites, users at B.net, etc., were analyzing the CG clip frame by frame, looking at every little detail for hints.
How many other developers can accomplish something like that? Bungie is known to give subliminal hints and messages. Obviously, this is a good strategy. If they were to tell us straightforward what they were working on, with behind the scenes info, do you think we'd be so excited about it? Hardly. We hunger for more, and come back to B.net almost every day in hopes of an update.
I believe that, coupled with the defining games, makes Bungie so successful.
That was my main point, and that's also something you should consider. If you don't like how Bungie does things, just wait like any other normal, patient human would do.
Bungie doesn't owe you anything. They give you their work, you reward them for paying for it, which attributes to their paycheck that they use to put food on the table. Keep in mind, they're humans just like the rest of us.
If you, for the slightest instant, thought the first line of my previous post was sheer ignorance, I've no idea what to say. You have a pretty bad outlook, I guess that's what it sums up to. Either that or you just can't see sarcasm.
Other developers aren't as successful as Bungie because Bungie have a locked-in fanbase. They give us weekly updates which (more often than not) have to do with things we care about. There have been two great map packs released, both at reasonable prices, and one's free now. They could have opted to make the Heroic pack a little cheaper, but no. They gave it to us FREE.
Updates that we care about. Hype for things we want. It's all a part of the master plan.
If you can't stomach it, don't read the updates, and be patient. Surely someone will tell you all of Bungie's exploits, and the hype that was generated up to the official release.
Edit -
Again, congratulations, I look forward to your future projects.
