Subject: Marines also have Removable Head Gear: Interactive Body Armor

Alright, here I go again.

THIS screenshot, the one everyone keeps pointing to for proof of the Grunt with no mask, caught my eye. If you'll notice, there are marines in the background fighting on the Warthog. Not hard to miss. What I found strange about this screenshot is the marine on the chaingun. Still lost, he has no helment on. The other marines have helments on, as well as the Chief (Duh), so this leads me to one conclusion... interactive, possibly damageable, body armor. If you accept that that the grunts have removable mask, then it doesn't sound that far outside the realm of possible that marines would also have interactive body armor. If you accept that this screenshot is an indicator of interactive body armor (atleast headgear) then why would it stop their. It's my prediction that Elites, Brutes, Hunters, and so on will all have interactive body armor. What do you guys think?

I think that your theory is plausable, and I certainly hope it is true.

that wouldn't make sence thou because if you shot a grunt's mask off it would be a head shot and they would be dead

mabey they don't need them on earth....

It could be battle damage, or it could be merely differentiation. I'm certainly hoping on the former, though.

Although Sgt. Johnson wasn't wearing a helmet, all marines in the combat arms were wearing some type of head gear. In Johnson's case, this was a simple cap similar to the average baseball cap you can see in present day. The only military personel not wearing head equipment was the officers, those who were enlisted personel wore head gear of some sort.

Being on point with what Boot117 is saying, the only marines in the 2003 E3 demo with no head gear on where the dead ones.

Plasma wouldn't shatter armor, singe through it yes. Who knows? Perhaps the plasma was unable to fully penatrate the marine's head gear, it may have only made it to the point in which he recieved some burns, before removing the head gear. Or perhaps the plasma bolt hit his helmet at an angle which essentially blew it off.

ok, the realism isnt THAT good. no game would have free will, or marines taking off there burning helmet.

Does anyone recall information on the Brtue it had a picture of him with some info?Im pretty sure it said something that the only thing protecting it is his armor and something about shooting his helmet off. Ok I just read it it says "If you crack open his protective headgear, say, two well placed sniper shots, his noggin will be all your for the bustinning or the caps"
So it could be very true.

No, but perhaps Bungie implemented it in some instances. I am pretty sure that human rounds are more able to penetrate armor, especially if they were jacketed hollow point rounds, as is their purpose. In reality, people have survived from bullets to the helmet and lived, I dont understand why this cant be the case in Halo 2. Until we have played the SP of Halo 2, anything is possible.

I remember reading some of the writeups of people who went to Bungie's Fanfest at E3 2003, though I don't have any links, been too long since I've read them. I remember some of them talking about how after the showing of the main movie, Jamie Griesemer (I think) played through it again with a few people and explored the New Mombasa level, read the signs, and went around shooting helmets off marines. So, I'm pretty sure helmets can be knocked off, though I wish I had links to the writeup.

Just because OXM didn't state it doesn't mean it isn't possible.

I really don't read gaming magazines, they are a waste of money and just about all information found in the magazines can or at some point will be found on internet.
